A Shades of Green Wedding 9.29.2011

Hi :goodvibes, I'm just joining in with your planning. We are getting married very close together, my wedding is 5th October on Fultons at DTD. Your venue is really lovely. I think it will be perfect for a morning ceremony.

I really love your wooden flowers, they are so unique and best of all you can keep your bouquet afterwards. I'm making a brooch bouquet and plan to frame it in a shadowbox after.

I think the two birds dresses are gorgeous and very versatile. I think if it's your day and it's want you would like them to wear then you should try and win them around. Maybe ask the girls to at least try them on. Dresses often look much better when they're on and nor just hanging off a hanger.

I think that because they are a good price, and since you should ultimately be the one to pick the dress, you should go with them. And I agree, have them try them on. I bet they are very flattering!

Just wanted to let you know that I LOVE your flower selections. So colorful, I think that they will look great. I also really like the convertable dress. I wanted to use those but couldnt find them at an affordable price, so I am very jealous. :rotfl: anyways, I would say have the BM try it on, they may change their mind... I mean the best part of that dress is that they can wear it many different ways!!! If that doesn't work for them, what is the return policy? Maybe you can just return them? I am a believer that it is your wedding and you should be happy with the way the girls look and as a BM I would be eager to please even if that means wearing one of those horrendous outfits from 27 dress kwim? ... however they should also be comfortable with what they are wearing. :confused3

So should I:

A) Push the issue with the dress since I like it (it's my wedding!) and it is a cost effective choice?

B) Push the issue with the dress but offer to cover the cost since they don't like it. This isn't necessarily OK with my budget, but I can make it work if it's the right thing to do?

C) Keep looking and forget the dresses that I impulsively bought?

D) Other- any other suggestions?

I want to avoid any bridezilla-ness, but I also really like the dresses, so I don't know what to do.

Are the dresses returnable? If not, you have paid for them whether they fit the budget or not kwim? :)

I think at this point I would just "gift" the dresses to them. If they were already price conscious then this will probably be a big help to them, and might go a long way towards them wearing something they don't "love".

I know that I wouldn't be excited to pay $300 for a dress I hated to wear in a friend's wedding (I would probably do it if I agreed to be a bridesmaid, but that is just me). However, if said dress (that I disliked) was given to me to wear, it would help alleviate my bitterness towards the dress since I wouldn't feel like I wasted my own money on it.

The dresses look really cute, and I like that they're convertible. You already paid $69 each for them, right? I mean, you're not really going to find a much cheaper dress than that, so I would just tell the bridesmaids what happened and have them try it on. I'm sure they'll look great!

You may as well ask them to try the dresses on! It can't hurt, right? I do think those dresses are pretty spiffy though--- even if you bought knockoffs :)

I'm with doombuggy it really doesn't hurt to ask! I really really like them can you tell? So if you decide to go the eBay route I would love to take one of those babies off your hands... :rolleyes1: :rotfl:

When we got the dresses we had a girls day. I made some food to nosh and had some drinks...the girls got to try on the dresses and we each got to play around with all the different styles of tying them...It was great girl time and the girls that were not to sure in the beginning came around...there is a style to fit and flatter everyone. HTH...The dresses are so gorgeous i ending up making one for myself in navy blue. It was super easy and you can find tutorials online...BTW...i had ours made for way less if cost is a factor. :goodvibes

Okay so somehow my phone re posted my above comment... so it is either going crazy or I am!!! Lol but now that I am here, nomnoms would you mind posting where you got your dresses from?

Sorry for totally hijacking your thread!

I just started reading your PJ and love your plans so far.

One thought: If you really like the dress from twobirds, check out the Twist dress from Dessy. It's the same dress as twobirds, but they make a long and short version as well as a two tone version.

My MOHs wore this dress at our wedding and I loved it so much I had to buy one for my self! :rotfl:

HTH!

The blowout sale is 2 weeks from today- on May 3rd. I'll be coming from northern NY and mapquest says it'll be about 7 hours, although I'm sure it'll take longer. I'll probably be PMing you with a couple questions!
PM away! :goodvibes

I think the dresses are cute and nomnomnom's idea is a good one. The nice thing with those dresses is you can turn it into pretty much any style, I don't see why someone wouldn't be happy with it :confused3 I'm sure once they get the dresses on and play around a bit they'll warm up to them.

I'm back from NYC, unfortunately without a dress! The sample sale had a lot of dresses, just nothing that felt right. We got to Kleinfeld's at 11:30 and then at noon we went in, showed our receipt for the Gilt ticket, and then were given a consultant. I was keeping my fingers crossed for Audrey, but no such luck. She was in the room next to us, though! My consultant was Judy (she's not on the show) and she was super nice.

Right off the bat she asked what I was looking for and what my price point was. I tried on a bunch of dresses- she just kept bringing more and more in. Early on I found a dress that looked good on me, so we kept it in the dressing room:

Then she brought in this dress:

which I absolutely fell in love with, mostly because of the back:

but it was very damaged. The lace at the top was ripped a little, half of the belt needed to be reattached, and the tulle on the bottom was badly ripped in several places. Judy brought in Vera (and I was internally jumping for joy!) to see what could be done to salvage the dress. Vera recommended cutting the tulle and draping it some weird way, which I did not like at all, or replacing the tulle altogether, which would have cost close to $1000 and would have defeated the purpose of buying the sample!

So after falling in love with that dress, the other one didn't stand a chance. I put it back on and tried to talk myself into it (we drove all this way, we paid for the Gilt ticket, it's in good condition, it looks good on, I SHOULD get this dress, blah blah blah) but I just couldn't see myself in that dress on my wedding day. I just didn't feel like a bride. Reluctantly, my mom and I trudged out of the store without a dress. After buckets of tears that only a slice of pizza could cure, we headed to Penn Station and went back to the hotel.

Overall, the trip to NYC was really great. It was the first time for both my mom and I in the city, and we loved it. We found everyone to be extremely friendly and helpful and transportation wasn't too difficult to figure out. I must say, the Hopstop app for the iphone was invaluable, so a heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to princesswendy720!!

Now I'm less than 5 months away, without a dress, and panicking! I have to wear something!

Awwww Kate I'm so sorry about the dress! :sad1: Maybe you can find it somewhere else for a reasonable price. If anything, it wasn't meant to be and your dream dress is still out there somewhere. I'm sure it'll work out just fine. At least you got an awesome NYC trip out of the deal! I was in the city on Saturday night and I thought of you lol

I'm so sorry the dress shopping didn't work out! That dress is beautiful, but those alterations are super pricey. You will definitely find your dress, won't worry! 5 months is still enough time!

Too funny! I thought the city would be way intimidating and scary and that I would have tons of questions to PM you with, but we found it really easy to figure out. The great thing about it is you can just walk around with no plan and be completely entertained. On Monday, the only thing we had planned was that we wanted to visit ground zero. After that we just wandered up and down streets, ate hot dogs, people watched, etc. and we had so much fun. With only a day and a half, it was obviously impossible to do everything we wanted to do, so now I'm dying to go back!

As for the dress, I don't even know why they had the dress in the sale since it was so damaged. When I got home I looked for it on the internet and I found a couple on preownedweddingdresses.com that are 1 or 2 sizes smaller than me- so it is out there and I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for my size. In the mean time, I'm going dress shopping yet again this weekend and if we don't find anything, I may venture up to Toronto. I wish I was one of those brides that tries on only a couple of dresses and finds The One right away! I'm running out of time, and my mom and the dress shop owners won't let me forget it. Oh the pressure...:sad2:

So sorry it didn't work out! But yay for Vera!!
Atleast you got a fun trip out of it! I'm sure you will your dream dress!:lovestruc

I feel like it's been so long since I've posted! I finally found my dress a couple of weeks ago. :cool1::banana::dance3::yay: My mom and I went to a bridal shop and they were so nice, and I was just ready to be done with dress shopping, so I picked the first one I tried on! I got lucky, too, because it's a Canadian designer so they can get it made and shipped in time for the wedding without adding a rush fee. As previously stated, since DF is a snoop, I can't post pictures on here, but the wedding isn't that far away (scary! :scared1:) so you guys will be able to see it soon enough. I can't believe there's only 4 months.... it seems like the time is going SO fast.

In other news, today I finally got pictures of my bouquets. I ordered the flowers April 10 and the order was for:
1 bridal bouquet
3 bridesmaid bouquets
2 boutonnieres
2 corsages
12 pomanders

The seller said it would take 3-4 weeks to complete the order and she would e-mail me pictures after each component was complete so that I could approve it and she could move on to the next. So I expected to be seeing pictures periodically throughout that month. Well May 10 came and went, so I messaged her asking about her progress. She said she would send pictures by the weekend. 2 weeks and several inquiring messages later, she finally sent pictures of the completed bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, and 2 pomanders. And I hate them. The bouquets weren't at all what I asked for. The colors are all wrong, the bridal bouquet is way too large, there's weird statice that I didn't want (I asked for crystals and there were none). I feel like she should have sent me pictures once one of them was done so we could have remedied the situation before she created the other bouquets! Here are pictures of the completed bouquets:

However, when we were talking about the custom request, I asked for bouquets that looked like this:

with the colors of:

and instead of the rice pearls, I asked for crystal accents like these:

So clearly what I got was not what I asked for. I don't even think the bridal bouquet looks like a bouquet- it just looks like a big ball of flowers. We have 4 months until the wedding. The flowers are coming from the Philippines and could take up to 2 months to ship. That leaves 2 months for her to recreate the bouquets and do all other parts of the package. Ahhh!

If it's not one thing that stresses me out (the dress), it's another (the flowers)!

Other than that minor drama, there hasn't been much wedding planning going on. I've been thinking about invitations (which I have to do more than "think about" pretty soon) and the at home reception. Hopefully I'll get a lot done this week, so my next update should be more interesting.
