'Ohana Dinner
I was really looking forward to that meal, mostly since it was our last night at the Poly and I had gotten a late ADR so that we could see Wishes from the restaurant.
We'd even bought hawaiian flowers to wear in our hair and dressed up a little bit (as much as we can get "dressed up" in July at Disney World!).
Our waitress took our drink order and before we even got our drinks someone else brought us salad, chicken wings, wontons and dipping sauces, and peel-and-eat shrimp. A couple minutes later we got our drinks and then almost immediately were brought a dish of veggies, and another of potatoes.
Our table .
DM's drink, I think a vodka cranberry.
The wontons and sauces were very good, especially the peanut sauce. I'm allergic to shellfish so I didn't try the shrimp but DM had a few and said they were very good. The salad was delicious with a tangy honey-lemon sauce.
Since they'd brought everything together though, by the time I tried the potatoes they were stone cold. At that point someone came and offered us meat from huge skewers. We each had a piece of steak and a piece of turkey.
I'm not a fan of red meat but I loved the steak, the way it had been cooked in the fire gave it a really good taste, and it was great dipped in the peanut sauce. The turkey was so-so.
By then we'd been in the restaurant for less than 20mns - that's a LOT of food to eat in such a short time so we decided to take a break. Bad idea.
The same guy who brought us the meat asked us
"Do you want some more?"
We still had food on our plates plus a bunch of stuff on the table so we said, no thank you, thinking he was offering us more meat.
Well, it took about 2 minutes and before we had a chance to stop him - we were both so stunned - our entire table had been cleared.
DM & I looked at each other and said at the same time "What the .... just happened here????"
We couldn't believe it. DM wanted more shrimp, and I intended to get some more salads and wontons (wontons crushed in the salad with that honey-lemon dressing were really good!). And poof everything is gone.
I should have said something, asked the busboy to bring back our dishes or SOMETHING but I didn't want to seem rude.
Our server brought us dessert, which was really good. We ate the whole thing, since we were still hungry. We weren't offered any more - she brought our check with the dessert.
When we left the restaurant it was 9.35. We'd been in & out in about half an hour. We were highly disappointed,so much that the next morning I canceled our reservation for Spoodles that night - we'd had a great meal there in January and now we didn't want to risk having another bad dining experience that would "ruin" the place for us.
On the good side, the food was really good. We saw a coconut race that looked like fun, we were a little too far to see much though.
I don't know if we'll give it another try. If we do, I'll be sure NOT to say that I don't want "more" until I'm truly done and can't eat another bite!
