A little sad due to closures

We are going to Disney in late February with our 3 year old daughter. We were planning to get her first haircut at the barbershop . I just read the shop will be closed. I am so disappointed!!

Also, the only princess she has asked about with Ariel and I just found out that ride in MK will be closed . I am a bit sad about that too. I'm not sure if she will do a meet and greet but may try to have her meet Ariel to make up for it .

Now I have yo go back to thinking of all the fun we will have and not focus on the two things we will be missing :)

That stinks when something you want to do is closed.

You could go see the Mermaid show at DHS.

I hear ya...just found out Maelstrom is closing...it's crazy because I was just there last April! A Frozen themed ride is going to be replacing it :(

The closure of the Little Mermaid ride really makes me sad. My nearly 4 year old niece really wants to ride it. We're planning to go from March 1-7. So I'm hoping that the dates won't be extended so that on the last day we can go to MK to ride it several times. My sister and I LOVE the ride at DL so it's a really bummer that it will be closed for most of our trip.

Yeah, Mermaid closes the day we arrive (2/2) so that kind of stinks. But I'm glad they are updating it to be closer to the DCA version. The blacklight they use there works really well with the scenes. The only issue is that it will still be missing half the story including the climax! Ah well, ya can't win 'em all.

Definitely a bummer about a favorite being closed, but you can do a meal at the castle and meet Ariel there - can't beat that atmosphere! Or her grotto is simply a meet and greet, OR she can also be found at the meal at Akershus in Epcot. As someone else said, the voyage of the little mermaid show at DHS may get you your Ariel fix as well.

One of my favorite ride (Haunted Mansion) is closed for most of my trip down. I go home 12/21 and it reopens (hopefully) 12/19. If so I will have to make a MK trip late in my stay.

I am extremely bummed about Ariel being closed too. We are going the last week of Feb. I have a 4 year old princess obsessed daughter, first CRT is closed now Ariel. Swell.

Guess that's the risk at going "off peak." Lower crowds but more closures.

I just read about Under the Sea, and held my breath to look at the dates, and luckily we are there a week before they shut down for refurb... which is a good thing since 2 of our rides are already going to be shut down while we're there. (kali and Splash)

So true. I ended up with a broken neck back in 2006 just a couple of months before our trip to Disney World. I laid in the hospital all bummed out about what I couldn't do and that lasted about a half day. Then I started to write down what I could do and once I had the entire sheet of paper written on, I realized I was extremely lucky.

Cinderella Castle will be down for refurb during the OP's trip as well. Just didn't want them to try for that as a replacement.

oh no, we were going to get our baby's first haircut at the barbershop during our trip in February too. what a bummer.

also disappointed about the little mermaid ride being out of commission. it's always something. :sad2:

I always get really bummed when something I care about is either going to be closed for refurb or they are just taking it out completely.

But, then once I get there, I really kind of let it go and just take in all the other things there are to do.

Test Track was closed for the refurb last time I was there.

I hope she still gets to see Ariel. I didn't read all the posts but isn't Ariel still at Akershus - you could do a character meal there and get one on one with her :)

It seems that something is always shut down. You just have to think positive and find a replacement. I do not remember a trip when nothing was down. I wanted my son to see Small World in Disneyland to compare it to Disney World, but it was closed for refurb while we were there.

What is sad is when one of your kids favorite rides close for good.

It is a bummer when a favourite ride is closed for refurb during your trip. We hit several of them 2 trips ago, but then lucked out this past summer with no closure impacting us. I guess it's just luck of the draw because the maintenance needs to get done some time. I do think that the majority of closures do happen during non peak travel times and I would still rather deal with a few closures than have everything open and deal with bigger crowds. I feel most sorry for people who are doing once in a lifetime trips and they have closures. For me, I've experienced them all at least once and know that I'll be back again, so they don't bother me much.

That's such a shame. But like you said, you can still meet Ariel at her grotto, and see the Little Mermaid show at Hollywood Studios :)

Plus, it gives you an excuse to go back next year :thumbsup2:goodvibes

Thanks everyone. We can't reschedule the trip and won't be going back for a few years. I appreciate the suggestions for where else we can see Ariel. I most upset about the haircut!! ;)
