A food product that was popular when

....if you are from Bergen County, then you'll remember Whoopee Soda! You bought it by the case (they came in glass bottles and have flavors like sassparilla and celery)...

Taco bell use to have a Taco Light which was a deep fried taco that made it light and airy. I think they stopped making them because ppl confused it with light calorie but they were awesome. They had a Taco Light salad too that was made the same way, really good.

Campbells chili... looked like dog food and was kinda orange but I havent tasted chilli as good in a can since.

McCormicks swiss steak mix in the green pouch- they make a new one thats horrible. My mom use to send me 20 at a time when I lived in Hawaii. Ive considered emailing them and ask them how to make it myself. I made it without the tomato sauce.

This is still around, but I thought it would be a place to share.

When I was in middle school was when the introduction of Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza happened. It was all the rage. I remember the day our school had pizza day and it was stuffed crust. It was like we had hit the mother lode.

Last Friday, for the first time in 10-15 years, I got a stuffed crust pizza. Blech is all I can say.

Microwave Milkshakes (yes they were a thing! And good too!)

I cannot remember the name, but it was pasta meal similar to Chef Boyardee's and it came in a jar you could microwave. I lived on that stuff :).

How about Micro Magic French fries? My mom used to get those for my brother and I.

A lot of the candy mentioned can be found at Cracker Barrel as a few pp's have mentioned. It's called "Remember When...Classic Candies from the..." It's distributed by Nassau Candy (www.nassaucandy.com). It's funny that the company is right here on Long Island, but we have to out of state to find it :confused3. DS11 still has his box from a Cracker Barrel we visited in Lancaster, PA right after Christmas. He picked the 1980's box.

Cheeze Whiz was out on a regular shelf (with chips, pretzels) in a grocery store yesterday. It was in those little clip on shelves in front of the actual shelves.

I wonder if it is a local or California law!

Pommac Soda
You can get it over seas but not here. That I am aware of.

Taco Bell Bell Beefer
They may still have a similar item at Del taco though.

Whip 'n Chill- this was a mix for a light, fluffy, mousse-like dessert.

Jello 1-2-3- this mix made a three layer dessert: bottom layer was jello, middle layer was like a creamy jello, top layer was light and fluffy.

Fizzies- flavored fizzing pills you dropped into water to make a bubbly drink.

JELLO 1-2-3- was the 1st thing I thought of;)
and
TANG do they still make it?

Meatball stew - I think it was made by Chef Boyardee? I loved it way back when............I don't think I could eat it now :)

I miss the apple pies from McDonalds. They used to actually deep fry them and the crust was super crunchy and the filling was molten lava, but SO good! The baked ones are just :crazy2:

I also miss the styrofoam containers you got your burgers in at all the fast food places. The burgers just tasted better in them :cool1:

All the other stuff I miss has been listed, now I'm hungry!

Does anyone remember those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pies? I believe it was in the early 90s. I used to really like them but they were SUPER sweet. There was like a green shell with a vanilla cream on the inside.

these..

Those were more like turnovers than pies, but I do remember how hot and crispy they were straight from the deep fryer (which probably contained beef fat and/or lard on top of that).

And the move away from Styrofoam "clamshell" containers started with a local ordinance in Berkeley, California.

I thought the trigger was likely the McDLT, which was a hamburger that was packaged in a two-compartment styrofoam container where the idea was that it kept both sides at different temperature so the burger side didn't prematurely cool and where the lettuce theoretically wouldn't get soggy by being placed next to the cooked meat. It was actually a bit clumsy. It was also a way to get around the use of heat lamps like they used to use. These days everything is made to order such that it doesn't get soggy under a heat lamp as long as it's consumed quickly.

Discontinued McDonald's items could be the basis of a complete thread. However, I'm thinking this thread is mostly about food products that still exist but have sort of been banished to the fringes. You know - sort of walking into some market you've never been to, seeing a familiar item from years past, and thinking to yourself "That's still on the market?" Sort of like two dollar bills.

Progresso used to make ravioli in a can. That and Top Ramen kept me alive in college.

They MUST still make it somewhere, but I can't find it locally.

...

OMG I loved those. I was just thinking about those the other night.

My favorite cereal growing up is no longer for sale anywhere near me, but maybe in other parts of the country.....Alphabits! I sooo miss them. Honeycomb is an adequate substitute but just not quite the same.

OMG- that pictures for the McDLT!!! "Keep the hot side hot. Keep the cold side cold." I actually use that line when I teach a Food Safety Course at the local college!!! Awesome!

Still being made. Not sure where you find it though. Breakfast cereal shelf space is such that any new product has to displace another one.

Post used to sell Sugar Crisp, but changed the name to Super Sugar Crisp, and eventually Super Golden Crisp to disassociate it with the negative connotations of sugar. Kellogg's Honey Smacks used to be Sugar Smacks.
