Okay, I called today on my disney Club Card and Got a quote for OKW Studio - Check-in on October 11 - 7 nights - 2 adults and one child - using the "Fairytale Promotion". My quote was $2023

Okay one week in a studio at OKW = 82 points

Lets price the points at at the FMV not Cost price of $10 a point
I also priced the UMP for my family on 7 nights to be $1022.41

That is a total of $1842.41 for DVC members

(Of course I calculate my cost at $1432.41 as I only paid approx $5 per points)

I know there are probably a few perks with the package like a photo or something - but those things only cost $40 or so in the park so I exclude them

My conclusion - this Fairytale Promotions still does not beat the purchase power of DVC.

Nice job, TnRobin. I have been hearing so much about this package, but I knew nothing about it.
Again, thanx for taking the time to do the comparison.

We are going in June to the BCV on points. We are going in Jan to OKW and VWL on points. When the Fairytale Package came out, we decided we didn't have enough vacations planned, so we added a FT package at GF for the end of July for our son's birthday. Houston, I think I have a problem.

WHile the package certainly isn't as economical as our DVC, I think it is a good deal for folks that don't already have APs and are staying on cash - or to use it as a supplement for DVC for that Extra Trip like Deb and Bill. I do NOT feel that it devalues DVC, or that DVC members should feel slighted by a temporary special in tough times.

It looks like you forgot to figure in the 10% discount on UPH tickets available to DVC members. Adult UPH tickets (8 days/7 nights) are $365.30 each and children's are $291.81. That does add up to $1022.41 for your family, but if you apply the discount, the total for tickets would be $920.17. Total for DVC now becomes $1740.17. That's just shy of $283 less than the FTP quote!

And that's not even considering that DVC members can drop the arrival day and/or the departure day if desired while the FTP people can not.

Anyway, DVC looks to be an even better deal than you thought!

Count me as another DVC member who is not jealous of the FTP offer!

Chuck - I agree as a matter of fact we are looking at this as a way to stay at one of the Deluxe Resorts since the DVC exchange rate is not as friendly with the Deluxe resorts.

Thanks Carol - I usually don't get the LOS so I guess I forgot to
calculate the savings. Thanks for updating.

Thanks, I needed that.

Actually, we have our trip planned and we couldn't go for 7 days anyway and even if we did, I can't imagine going 7 days to the parks (too much for me).

These kinds of post help me love DCV more and more!

that is freaking us out. To me, it's the idea that my normal trip to the world in Sept won't be full of half empty parks and calm resorts.

Of course, we haven't even closed yet, so who knows if I'll even get to go (everything may be booked due to FTP.:( )

J.

Nette,

If all the DVC resorts are booked full in September, it isn't due to FTP. CRO room inventory is separate from DVC member inventory. If CRO has rooms at DVC resorts available for FTP it is because of members using their points elsewhere, like cruises or II trades, plus the % of ownership that Disney keeps in the resorts. Those rooms available for DVC owners that aren't being used won't be released to CRO until 60 days prior (Sometime in late June or Early July), you should be closed by then. If rooms are not available, it is because DVC owners already have them booked. September is a VERY popular time for DVC owners to visit WDW.

I see it is your first post. Welcome to the boards!

If Disney resorts and parks are full in September, traditionally the slowest month of the year, it will be a miracle beyond that in any Disney film! Most likely the effect will be far less dramatic and not spoil your vacation.

I guess I'm just freaked about getting to go this year. I *KNOW* that DVC is for us and will save us tons in the future... but I hate the anticipation/anxiety of not having a reservation yet. :)

I think we are actually going to book an FTP just for insurance... we can cancel it when we close (unless Disney exercises ROFR - which they might... the agent from the resale company said we were on the border line at $68/pt).

What we really want is a 2 bdr at any resort... think there will be any left by the time we close? Gosh I hope so!

Ok, this is off topic enough......
J.

September is probably still wide open. I expect that you will be able to find a two bedroom when you close.

OKW will probably be the easiest on-site resort to book close to your arrival time - as it is the largest. The 2 bdrm units there are very spacious and comfortable. I have never had a problem booking OKW, even on fairly short notice (including within the 30 day window when our airline changed our plans). BUT, be sure to book as soon as you close.

No offense, I'm not sure using one example is a fair value comparison. On a 1BR at BWV (using preferred), WLV or BCV, Fairytale Package is going to beat the same comparison by about $1000 (that's free passes for everyone in the party for the full week.) Fairytale is not available for a 2BR.

stlrod-
What prices did you compare - what price per point etc.?

Using actual price paid for my points in 1992/50 years plus dues for OKW - here's a 1 bdrm comparison at OKW in Sept.

FTP Price $2115.90 for 2 adults.

160 points @ 4.51 = 721.60 + 2 UHP/7days - 10% = 1321.60

Almost a $700 savings with DVC points.

Chuck,

I used the numbers the original poster used for computing value (which is fmv of $10 per point). I also used BCV or WLV point values (as well as BWV preferred.)

This is actually not correct information.... to stay 7 nights with the package is 2339.00 for 2 adults.

The same 7 nights in a preferred BW view is 200 points, the DVC discounted UMP is $657.00, the DVC *Rental* price is 2657.00 if you look at the points costing $10.00 each (so it is more, but only by 300.00 NOT 1000)... I however figure our cost to be 5.50 per point, far below that 10 dollar figure...

NOW, the studio @ OKW & the standard view BWV studio's ARE A DEAL & a significant one... I came up with the same figures as TnRobin.... about a 300.00 savings at the infamous $10 per point rental price...

Here's my comparison as a "renter":

I have booked the FT package in a OKW 1Bd. for July 4-July 11, seven nights. We are paying $2,568.45 for 2 adults & 2 teens. I have been dying to stay in a 1bd. for a trip so that I can convince hubby to buy DVC. If I had rented, the 1Bd. would have been 218 points for those same dates - so $2180 at $10 per point. Four adult UMP's would be $1,525.08. Total of $3,705.00. So the package is saving me $1,136.63.

I haven't quite gotten to a comfort level of renting points from someone I don't know & desire the flexibility of Disney's cancellation policy, so I had previously planned these same days with the AP discount (we would have had to check in on the 3rd to get the AP discount, but would not have gone to the parks that day). The price for the room only would have been $2,709. (more than my total room & UMP with FT) So basically with the FT package - my passes are free compared to what I would have paid for the room only!

I can hardly wait to stay at OKW!:Pinkbounc

Absolutely true Rascalmom.

If you are a renter, the FT is a good deal, assuming you're paying $10 per point. But for DVC members, whose true cost is much lower, it is not such a great deal - especially since many DVCers vacation for more than 7 days per year and use APs instead of UHPs.
