A couple questions about DING!

I've never used DING! before, but we're going in Sept so I'll be downloading it. My main question is, are the flights you book on DING! just one way? It seems a lot of the posts I've seen on here are people only booking one-way flights. If this is the case, do you just hope another DING! comes for your return trip? Or do you take the rist of booking a one-way flight home at a higher rate? Because right now, for example, a one-way ticket home for DH & I is only $15 less than round-trip tickets through Expedia.

Please explain!

You usually do not need to book RT fares on SW to get the cheapest fares...so if you find a DING fare that is only good for 1 leg of your trip it is good to go ahead and book it as a 1 way...if it is a killer DING fare and you know it will not get any better and it is good for both legs of your trip go ahead and book it RT. SW is one of the very few airlines where there is usually no fare advantage to booking RT.

For instance we are flying down 7/27 and returning 8/10...I initially found good DING fares that were only good through 7/31 so I was only able to book 1 way, which I did. Later I found GREAT DING faes that were good 7/1 - 8/31...so I cancelled me reservations for the trip down and rebooked the RT at the lower fare.

Just do what works best for you. If you find fares that are OK, but are hoping for a lower DING fare it is always a good idea to book them as 1 ways because then if a DING comes out that is only available for part of your trip you can take advantage of the lower fare and not have to cancel both directions of your old reservation.

So Southwest lets you modify your reservations? I guess I'm used to most airlines that don't let you change a thing w/o penaltes.

SW is GREAT about letting you switch flights. You never lose money for switching - you just get a credit for whatever you had booked that has to be used within 12 or 18 months or something like that... It's AWESOME...
