a couple of cutbacks we noticed

Just a note on the sport tops - my BIL's dentist advised him to not give those to his daughter as the dentist apparently sees a lot of broken or chipped teeth from opening sport caps with teeth. I'd never heard of this, but, I can see where this could happen. Not a reason why they wouldn't be available, but, out of caution, we don't give those to our duaghter either.

It amazes how anything that may be smart business amounts to a cutback.
Consumers like to keep themselves insulated from the reality of the other side of the transaction. It's really a shame, because it is well-established that "knowing your 'enemy'" is a fundamental contributor to getting the most out of any naturally-adversarial relationship (and since the consumer is trying to get the most while paying the least, and the seller is trying to get the most revenue, that's naturally-adversarial!)

How about just teaching them not to open them with their teeth?? :confused3

Hi,

We arrived yesterday and I couple of things we noticed that in our mind are cost cutting measures.

1. The park maps are smaller and the paper quality is thinner. This is something that changed since our last trip in Jan of this year. If you have never been or have not been in a long time you would probaly not notice this change but for someone who visits often it is very noticiable and comes off as a cost cutting measure.

YAY!!!! I'm NOT crazy!!!! Someone else noticed this too!!!! Whew!

A switch to Dannon would be a very substantial improvement IMHO. We always brought our own water specifically because the tap water is undrinkable, and Dasani is only marginally better.

I'm glad someone else agrees! My family thinks I'm crazy because I'm picky about water . . . they claim bottled water is bottled water, it all tastes the same. NO! :rotfl:

2) Both are supplied to Disney for free.

In Traditions we were told that Disney has a deal with Coke where each bottle of Coke product costs just 5 cents. Not quite free to Disney, but still one heck of a markup.

Maps don't bother me too much, as long as the print is big enough to read (for those of use with glasses ;) ). I hate to say it, but I don't like "sports caps", and I'd like even smaller bottles (for a smaller price, though), as I always end up lugging around a bottle of warm water.

My pet peeve, remember when a "pound of coffee" was really a POUND of coffee? Not 10 or 11 ounces.

I buy one water bottle, the first day and refill it from the fountains for the rest of my visit. At night, I stick it in the mini fridge or freezer if I've got a kitchen.

We got back yesterday, and I loved the new maps! They were easier to open and close, and the smaller size made it easier to deal with. My dh and I both thought it was a good change.

other cut backs regarding mnsshp

1. Way less characters than years before

2. Closing the park a lot latter before the halloween party to let the people who are not going to the party have more time to buy stuff

3. No more free pics at the party (or so i heard)

From what we have been told:
1) Coke does not charge WDW for bottles or soda fountain products.
2) The 5¢ is a Florida waste cost and billed as a pass-through cost.
3) This is the ADF (Advance Disposal Fee).
4) The law started in 1993 and was allowed to sunset in 1995.
5) However, in some cases, the disposal fee still exists.
6) The 5¢ fee was assumed by many to be the cost of a plastic bottle.

are the maps noticeably smaller??

Yes. But I got used to them after the first day and if you have not been for awhile I doubt you would notice.

hi
just a thought - why buy the water at the parks when you can buy 12 aquafina 24 oz bottles at 7/11 for $5 ?

For us we cannot be bothered by stopping before we arrive at WDW or with shipping stuff ahead. The price is not a big concern for us just noting the change in size.

Disney used to sell Zephyrhills, at least during my 00 and 01 trips.

I remember that brand also, but I think that was before Coke started bottling their own brand. It has only been Coke's brand for while now.

I do not believe the cost of the product is actually "free" but that Disney and Coke exchange services. So instead of Disney cutting a check to Coke for the products they buy and Coke cutting a check to Disney for advertising they just exchange services.

IIRC, as late as our last trip in July, there were two sizes of bottled water. The smaller size was $2 and the larger $2.50. The cost of a large Coke was $2.25. I remember this because a couple of years ago I commented that water cost more than a Coke at Disney! (The $2.25 Coke was even a larger quantity, too! :rotfl: )
