A bargain item for magnet making

For those of you considering making your own magnets, I found generic contact paper at the Dollar Tree yesterday. Contact paper at walmart was around $6 and the laminating sheets were around $12. I was considering ommitting it altogether, but I did try out the dollar tree stuff. It definitely adds a sturdiness to the magnet. It is a matte finish (not sure if the laminating sheets are shiny).

I'm also going to recycle advertising magnets for my magnet strips (another tip I got on this board)

If you wanted to use just regular printer paper you could make the magnets for very little cost (printer ink being the biggest). Just thought I'd share

Wow! Thank you!! I had not read the tip about recycling old advertising magnets!!! I hope I didn't throw them all away! Great idea!! I'll look and see if our $ store has the contact paper! Thanks for the tips!! I haven't printed yet- wanted to make sure I have everything I need!

I use the contact paper from the $1 store all the time. It's in with the shelf liners. Just make sure you get clear-not white. I've only had one batch out of at least 7 rolls that didn't stick properly.

I hope the Dollar Giant store carries it as the other $1 store I usually buy from didn't have any clear, just white the last time I was there.
