9/10/2012 ~ 6 WONDERful nights ~ VC to L.A.

SO DVCTiger, what do you think about a meet on the 11th at 10am? Some folks have suggested that a meet on the 2nd day would be make day 1 a little less hectic.

A couple of us have brunch reservations on the 11th, but 10 am seems to work. The location suggested is the Promenade Lounge.

I honestly think a meet on the first day is best. More time to get to know each other and have fun. Then you can always add more meets if the group likes hanging around together. On my Feb MR cruise, we did a meet on embarkation day around 2:30/3pm. Then we did another one on pirate night and one other night for pictures. On a six night cruise, if we don't meet until the evening of day 2, we may miss out on some fun times. On previous cruises of mine, many of us would get together in Wavebands in the evenings, Wonderquest is a Great way to get to know each other, and it's usually on day 1! Or have two planned from the start, so those that can't make it on embarkation day can do a meet on day 2. The other advantage of having a meet on embarkation day is for those involved in FE. If there are room changes, those can be addressed at a meet once onboard.

Just my .02 since you asked!

Ooops. She meant 10am! It was suggested to do 3 pm on boarding day but there are so many 1st timers that they felt like the would get lost.

That would make more sense! :goodvibes I still think the newbies would be fine with a Day 1 meet. We would only hang out for 15- 20 min or so. But if everyone wants a Day 2 meet, thats ok too. The other thing to think about, is that the ship will have a lot of activities planned for Day 2 since its a sea day. Typically the DVC and/or CC receptions are the morning of day 2 as well. And also of course the Palo brunch. Again, just my thoughts.

The last dis meet we did was 3pm in the promenade and we couldn't get there. We had three rooms on two decks and had trouble getting everything together. Most of our party had never cruised before and they were not ready for a schedule that soon after boarding. We could have the meet on embarkation day but we should be aware that some may not make it. Some might not make 10 am on the 11th either though so either one may be equally fine from that view.

You are SO correct! There will be no time that everyone can make it. Thats why I like the idea of having two or more set, that way maybe everyone can make at least one.

I like this idea of having two meets one on the 10th and one on the 11th it definitely could accommodate more people. But I may only attend one and after listening to all of the discussion her and on face book I may try the one on the tenth and go to the one on the 11th only if we are not busy playing game or eating with Mickey Mouse.

I have a confession. I'm obsessed with trip reports. At first I was just reading the Alaska reports but now I'm reading all of the Magic out of NY ones too.

Anyone else?

Well, after I made all that ruckus about the meet, now Disney is kicking us off this cruise  If you are doing a B2B w/AK. . . .

Oh no! There may be some other folks impacted by this. :(

I'll confess, I enjoy some of the trip reports! I usually check out the first few paragraphs and see if it's going to be one I'll like...like with lots of food pictures. That's right, I'm one of those 'Disney food porn' people. :rotfl:

Wow!

You didn't create a ruckus ... You made a great suggestion.

But ...WOW ... Kicking you off the cruise!? This late in the game really seems odd to me. Hopefully they are compensating you in some very meaningful way.

Disaster, we need to cancel a cruise everything paid for to say I am not a happy DCL person is an understatement out of order :furious:
devastating call I have made to DCL on the back of Disboard chat. Don't know when DCL were going to advise us after fully paid up flights & cruises along with a hotel in Seattle, hotel & flights non refundable, we need to choose a cruise to cancel because of that daft Govt Law.

What do we do? It was such a fab cruise to do, great price but now all blown to pieces, Fine if you live in the States but because we have so far to travel it is a nightmare for us to sort. What do you suggest?

Have you looked into doing Alaska with another line? DCL should help you out if you want that option ... Sort of like an airline having to cancel and booking you with another carrier. Perhaps the other line might even be cheaper???

Just offering a suggestion to help you salvage your vacation.

it does not make up for the extra cost of now having to sort out what we do with a spare week in USA & having to get from Vancouver to LA to then get home to Scotland. we may have to get DCL to cancel whole trip at this rate, I am so ticked off given they had this same situation in May

I just saw Tracy's post on FB about the problems with the B2B. Awful news!

Quickly tried to catch up on the last last number of pages and saw the link about the FB groups. Normally I would be super active on both FB and the DIS but I'm in school right now plus work and DIS is one of the things I have "given" up until the fall. (Let's be honest, not 100% given up b/c that would be inconceivable but still about 95% given up. Which is pretty difficult.) Anyways, I just wanted to say that I really hope that nobody feels left out and I'm looking forward to meeting you all!!!!

Cheers,
Marsi

hello and goodbye this will be the cruise we need to dump as a logical move and see what we can sort out, outraged and very sad as this is beyond belief:furious:
