9/10/2012 ~ 6 WONDERful nights ~ VC to L.A.

We are now just off the phone with San Birch, who has been very helpful, of DCL and we have been removed from the repo cruise Vancouver to LA, San has confirmed all customers who are doing the B2B will be contacted regarding the removal of one of the cruises from the B2B.

The issue has arisen because the LA Port Authority are enforcing the Jones Act unlike the Port Authority in Seattle, who were far more accommodating.

If any one would like San's email address to discuss their own situation, please send me a private message as email is the best way to get a response and confirm your own requirements.
Take care & maybe see the repo cruisers sometime in the future but not this time.:hippie:

Forgive my complete ignorance.....who is San Birch? :confused3

San Birch is the lady from DCL in charge of sorting out the debacle of the B2B just tying to be helpful

Thanks for clarifying.

For a few minutes I thought it was possibly a typo for Sen. Birch of Ohio who was trying to sort out the legal end of the PSVA and this mess DCL has gotten folks into!

Her comments about the Port of LA vs. Port of Seattle offer some tidbits into how/why the May B2B vs Sept B2B are being handled differently. Very interesting...

FWIW, it's not the Jones Act. It's the Passenger Vessel Services Act. Both acts say the same thing, except the Jones Act refers to cargo, the Passenger Vessel Services Act refers to passengers.

"A foreign-flagged ship may not transport (cargo-JONES ACT/passengers-PASSENGER VESSEL SERVICES ACT) from one US city to a different US city without a stop in a distant foreign port".

A distant foreign port is defined as any port NOT a nearby foreign port.
A "nearby foreign port" is defined as "any port in North America [includes Canada & Mexico], Central America, the Bermuda Islands, or the West Indies (including the Bahama Islands, but not including the Leeward Islands of the Netherlands Antilles, i.e., Aruba, Bonair, and Curacao)"

I'm an Indy fan, too! Great ride! I was at rope drop a few years ago and actually 'met' the woman who was given the privilege of naming the monster. (I guess she'd had the most rides EVER) Know what it's name is? FLUFFY! lol

Omg that's awesome! I didn't even know it had a name! I've never seen any of the movies but I've always loved the ride and as I haven't been down to dl in a looooooong time I can't wait for it!

If everyone participating in the FE thus far could check that everything listed is correct and let me know of any missing information I would appreciate it :thumbsup2

Thanks!!

Does anyone know where the boat docks in San Fran ?
What pier?
We are doing Alcatraz, and need to know how long of a hike it is to the shuttles

It took us about 15 minutes if that to walk from the ship to the Alcatraz ferry.

From what I understand, we should be docking at Pier 35 which is right next to where the ferry to Alcatraz leaves from so it's an easy walk. Pull it up on Google maps and you'll see it. Type in "Pier 35, San Francisco, CA" and zoom in and you'll see the Alcatraz Island ferry leaves from Pier 33.

That's correct, and there's also twice-daily train service Seattle-Vancouver in the $40-$50 range. A very scenic ride....

For anyone that's interested, we actually live in the Seattle area and since there's 5 of us in our family, we're actually renting a car from the Seattle airport via Thrifty and driving it up and dropping it off at the Vancouver airport. It's much cheaper for us since the price is just over $100 or so. From the airport, there's the Canada Line skytrain (or you can get a taxi) that will take you within a couple blocks of Canada Place. The Skytrain from the airport is like $8 or so.

We're coming up the night before and found a hotel that has a "Stay & Cruise" package where we'll drop off the rental car at the airport, then they have a free courtesy shuttle to the hotel, and a shuttle to the cruise terminal the next morning. The room sleeps 4 (2 doubles) and the nightly rate for this is $124 CDN.

Please remove me from you fish extender list. with the B2B fiasco, my fiancee and I have rescheduled our honeymoon for a later date :(

Just booked a couple of staterooms for my friend and and I (our 4th DC), and my cousin and her husband. This will be their first cruise and will be tagging on a few days in Disneyland too.

Look forward to joining you all in the planning over the next few weeks

SW

:wave2: Can't wait to meet you all! Husband and I are very excited about our first DC! Not long now! Roo :rotfl:
