Boy, Gina is starting to really grow on me in AI. She sort of appeals to my inner rock chick. She is kind of a throw back to Joan Jett.

I thought she was good tonight.

My BIL recorded with Joan. She signed his band to her record label about 2 years ago and played on one of their songs. They said she is the coolest person. If you've ever seen the movie Failure to Launch, you've heard BIL's band. One of their songs is the soundtrack to the paintball scene.

Yup, a military officer and a rock star. My MIL & FIL aren't sure what happened.:confused3

I previously mentioned the article on Cartagena that appears in the current Conde Nast Traveler magazine. I thought I would post some excerpts from the article to give people a taste of what certainly seems like a fascinating port-of-call. If nothing else, this should reassure those who, based on some of the previous posts, might have been concerned about leaving the ship.
<snip>
Although never as bloody as its counterpart in Iberia, the Dominican-led push to root out heretics, witches, Jews, and other undesirables resulted in roughly seven hundred local persecutions and five autos-da-fe [sorry, I have not idea what those are].

My concern about leaving the ship has nothing to do with safety, it has to do with my job... I may not be able to go :sad2:  This, of course, won't stop DW from getting off because she plans on SHOPPING and doesn't care if I'm able to go or not! Actually, she has a friend who works in the gem mines near Bogota!

There was a good article a couple of months ago in Caribbean Travel and Life, too. I think it will be a fascinating place to go.

I'm thinking of buying coffee and

EMERALDS :thumbsup2

I will be right there with you buying Emeralds!!!!

I love jewelry!!! I LOVE gemstones!!!!

Chrissie

With DW being a jewelry designer I shudder to think what will happen if she's aroung you people! :scared1: Actually, I'm afraid for you! :rotfl: She'll be happy to point out what's good and what's crap... But I'm still looking for that smiley of money flying out of a wallet! :rotfl2:

:flower3:

Thanks Lil' Grumpy! I am still at work and it is nearly 11pm my time and I haven't checked in on the boards since Sunday night. So, I tried to pick up where I left off and ....OH MY, there is no way to ketchup! It is simply not possible. And that is only 3 days...:confused3

But, I happened to be on the page where you left this message and it just made me grin!!!! I really needed that tonight! :goodvibes

Now I realized my hippie is back too! :hippie: :cloud9:

Well, what a great way to end the day, I am going to head home, but I am so glad I checked in, even though I only read about 2 pages. Have a great night everyone!

My cousin just bought near Lakeland FL

I have that town already on my list to check out. Thanks:thumbsup2

I did for many weeks after my surgeries, but not anymore. :sad2: After walking around all day, the last thing I want to do is go to PT. :scared:

I order something called theragisic from any drug store. I got this tip from a doctor. :thumbsup2 It is over the counter but hard to find. It burns like h*** but really helps. I have told lots of people and everyone says it really helps. I am a candidate for knee surgery too.:scared1: My doctor just said when I can't stand the pain, come back and see him. This lotion burns and heats so much, you tend to forget about the pain.:dance3:

I have 9581 days to retirement :scared1:
But just think you are way younger than everyone else.

I've already started looking around at chartered bus rental out of Anaheim . . . the big buses with TVs, etc., hold around 60 people, and there should be no problem filling at least one (or two, or six?) of those heading from DL to the port . . . this summer or so I will ask people to PM me if they think they would be interested, and based on that rough number I will get a cost estimate.

That is great. :cheer2:

You can still play - give us 10 random songs that you would put on one if you had it!:goodvibes

I still have vcr flashing, I could never handle an ipod.

Okay...she's going to kill me....but I'm posting a picture of Shelley...BBB..BIP....and her family. She said she wasn't pretty and I'm here to challenge her on that. She's a doll and has a darling family

Shelley....

BIP
What I see is a beautiful family inside and out. Now that I learned to multi-quote, I might give you some competion. So hurry and get better. This really takes a long time. BIP can I use your magic wand and make you all better???

Ok all - went and did some FYI exploration. For those staying at HOJO next year - took some pictures and as soon as I can find where the dang program put them I'll upload - most likely later this evening. However, did find out some info for you:
1. - I'm impressed - clean and tucked away into a corner - borders the freeway but still decent and somewhat more quieter than the other hotels right across.
OK - will post pictures later - let me know if you all have any questions.
OK - that's all I can think of now - later - ask ?'s if you want.

Thanks for all the info. Clean is the key word I am happy about.

Chevron doesn't want us to wear any apparel while traveling with their logo on it. Shell has never said a word about it.:confused3

:
I'll be easy to avoid- I'll be the one in the red shirt making a BEE-LINE to your wife to tell her all about the emeralds. ALL about the EMERALDS!!!!
Teach you to try to avoid me.

<mental note>
Interdict and eliminate anyone wearing a red shirt approaching my traveling party.

Why couldn't you get off because of your job?

Paula--

Sometimes people who work in government related fields have limitations placed on personal travel. I know many people in what seems to be mundane federal positions who would be unable to get off the ship in certain ports.

(Jonesing....not saying your job is mundane...just that I know a bunch of paper pushers with that kind of limitation.)

Jonesing - hope you don't mind putting my 2 cents in but let me share something that happened to me on the 11-Nighter in Sept. For some reason, right in the middle of the cruise - about 5 days in - in Antigua to be exact, I lost over 500 photos on my 4 gig card - compactflash. .......... My friend HIGHLY suggested that I still to a 1 GB and buy several of them - he also suggested to stick to SanDisk as most government agencies use that brand and have the software to recover any info.

I think I originaly read this somewhere on the DIS - but I have been following the advice for a few years now - ALWAYS use more than one memory card! I swap mine every couple of days - sometimes more often. It is possible for a card to get damaged/scrambled/etc, you could lose your camera or it could be stolen, and so on. Having multiple cards helps insure that you can't lose ALL your photos. I keep one card in the camera, one spare in the bag and all others at the stateroom or hotel. Since I know I will be doing this, I don't bother to spend the $$ on big memory cards - even my older 256MB ones aren't bad. My newer ones are usually 1GB just because there are a lot of good deals out there.

hi all,
quick question...how many have made ressies at the hojo with the group rate? and if you made the ressie, how many days are you staying? i haven't had time to read thru all the posts, and i just now noticed the group rate posted on the first page...i'm wondering what everyone's plans are? we are pretty flexible...but i'd like to go when the majority goes...that way if there is a rental bus or something...we could get in on it.
also, are you all planning on staying at DL til the day of the cruise...or staying closer to the port the nite before the cruise?
looking for your plans!!

We have booked 2 nights (Fri & Sat) at the HoJo. We will fly in on Friday and spend Sat at DL. We'll go to the port from there on Sunday - a DIS group bus would be a blast!

on my MP3 not IPOD but a Zen
Mr Biscuit Blues Bonnie Koloc
Seperate Lives Phil Collins
Us and Them Pink Floyd
Dreams Fleetwood Mac
Night Moves Bob Seeger
Drive My car - Beatles
My Life Billy Joel
Steve McQueen Sheryl Crow
Where do the Children Play Cat Stevens
Hotel California Eagles

I don't think I have ever run into ANYONE else who has even heard of Bonnie Koloc (other than my mother). I have seen her in concert a couple times and really enjoy her voice.

My wife will only drink bottled water, I bet they take it right out of the spigot somewhere. :rotfl2:

We joke about this in our town now. A little over a year ago our new water plant came on-line and our tap water is now "purer" than most bottled water! It tastes great and we keep joking that the town could keep taxes down by getting into the bottled water business - just bottle it up at the plant and ship it out! :rotfl: (The reason for this is that there is a very small amount of radium in our well water here. It is actually so small that some scientists have set that you would pick up more natural radium from sitting on the ground having a picnic than you would get from our water. However, the EPA sets their standards for things like radium based on what they can measure - as the measurment techniques got better, they kept reducing how much was allowed. It finally got to the point that the only way to comply with EPA regulations was to build this plant or switch to Lake Michigan water which would have cost us even more.)

OK folks - I didn't finish the ketchup this evening. I'm still about 20 pages behind. Maybe I'll have time to do it tomorrow - I spent a chunck of this evening helping DS7 finish his report on a "famous american". Guess who he picked from the list his teacher gave the class? Walt Disney! See, I'm training him well!!! :rotfl2: Anyway - I'm just too tired to finish tonight - see ya'll tomorrow....
