Thanks for all the info Monica. I found it very informative!!:woohoo: Maybe the year after our TOAL iI will venture to DL!!!

By the way, Guess what finally arrived?:confused3 Yep my passports!! It took 16 weeks and several phone calls:headache:

Glad you finally got the passports. Still don't understand what was holding yours up though.

I have not had the opportunity to see if everyone who had signed up for some of the committees is still interested, so lets not hold anyone to them until they are confirmed....
Thanks

The 3rd ever Mickey Ice Cream Speed Eating Challenge event is still accepting staff volunteers. It's a regular revolving door here... <chuckles>

I had volunteered to organize a Wench's tea, but I will have to leave that to others now as unfortunately we have cancelled our reservation for the Repo cruise. My son is starting high school next year and while initially I thought he would be able to miss a couple of days I didn't realize that it would impact his beginning practice with the boy's water polo team. Practice will begin a couple of weeks before school and he would miss all of it if we went on the cruise. We just think that would be too detrimental for him.

It was a hard decision, but we felt it was best for our family. I hope all of you have a really wonderful vacation!

Mary,

... I was so looking forward to doing some fishing off the fantail with your spouse next August! Alas, I can see you're a decent Mom who has placed the interests of her son ahead of other things so petty as the REPO. Seriously, we're gonna miss your family - and once again we've been wounded by the gracious departure of another wonderful DIS family.

At least we can look forward to hangin' at the DL meet and possibly hang for a concert or free rehersal at the Hollywood Bowl, eh?

With sad regrets...

CC

Are you kidding? no way would I volunteer to be staff. I intend to win that suckah. ;)
(and if I don't win it- I'm sure one of my children otherwise known as bottomless pits or "fastest eaters in the west" will win it. I'd lay money on it! :rotfl: )

Oh I'm so sorry to hear you won't be on the cruise. I was looking forward to seeing you!
I totally understand your decision.
It may be a decision we have to make as well- just depends. Our daughter will be starting highschool that year also and well... it all depends on when they are starting school on how many days she'll miss and it will also depend on "things". Things like- if she makes cheerleader again for highschool and if missing days at the beginning will get her thrown off the squad or what. And other things she's involved in. I may have to "work something out" with the highschool principal- especially if they have to register for their classes during the time we'd be gone... there are some things she'd NEED to be registered in and I'm not sure if they'd allow pre-registeration before everyone else (if it is indeed going to be done while we're gone). Things like band, athletics if she doesn't make cheerleader, GT and any AP classes. We'll cross that bridge when we get there though... just saying we may end up in a situation like you're describing. Crossing my fingers though!

Do you have any clue when they should come out with the 2008/09 school calendar? I thought they came out with the last 2 years promptly, but this one is taking longer. I know the new rule in Texas is not before the 4th Monday of August- which would have the kids missing the 1st week of school.
It will be the 1st week of middle school for oldest DD and the younger will be going into 3rd grade. Unfortunately the oldest will have the most problem adapting. I still think if we work w/ the school and DD she will be fine.
For all of us a year is a long time away and tons of things can, and are, coming up.

Good morning all!

I have been checking in very spotty the past few weeks. My father had lung surgery and ended up in the hospital for two weeks, but he is home now to finish his recuperation. It is also the end of the swim season, so the two days I did not go to the hospital to visit, I spent poolside.

Looks like I have missed lots! Birthday wishes and prayers to all I missed.

We are still planning on the cruise, although I haven't mentioned the extra $100 to my husband yet! My oldest son may end up canceling as he will need to see what his scedule will be for college as he will definitely miss the first week of classes; I hope he won't have to as it will probably be the last family vacation for him.

If you need a volunteer for Aruba information, I will ask my son to pick up some brochures when he goes there to train in January. I know they went on a sailing trip (read: booze cruise) to some island that had a small water park when he was there this past January. Maybe there are some family excursions to the island, too!

I believe it varies from system to system.

NYC public schools won't release their 2008-2009 calendar until some time next spring 2008.

My son attends a Catholic high school. I won't receive his 2008-2009 school calendar until August 2008. However his schedule is pretty much the same year to year.

First day of school (they are only there for 30-45 minutes) is always the Wednesday after Labor Day. Then they return the following Monday which is their first full day. Why they even bother having the sophomores, juniors and seniors go in on Wednesday beyond me.:sad2:

Welcome back! Glad to hear your father is doing better. Hope the swim lessons went well.

The $100 is need to know information, if DH doesn't need to know....:lmao: Remember, what happens on the DIS....

Aruba, feel free to help.

Good morning everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well. I have 8 more shifts at work till WDW! Me and the girls can't wait. Constantly day dreaming at work of poolside and beer. I guess that's not good for patient care.

Still hope A-Rod doesn't hit his 500th HR till tomorrow. It would be exciting to see.

Paula hope you and the boys had a good flight. We'll see you tomorrow at the game.

Sil, Lorri, will be good to finally meet you.

BIP, It's nice to see you posting.

Take care all!

"even more special"

Dear Tom:

Thank you for your e-mail to Tom McAlpin, President, Disney Cruise
Line®.

We truly regret your disappointment with the recent change in the toll
structure to transit the Panama Canal. Government Tax and Fee
adjustments like this are common within the cruise industry and occur
when there is a change in the per person tax amount.

As a matter of practice, Disney Cruise Line follows the same protocol as
the rest of the cruise industry by charging guests for Government Taxes
and Fees. The $100 fee charged by the Panama Canal Authority is a brand
new per person fee approved by the Panama government on April 25, 2007.
Disney Cruise Line consistently charges guests for these types of taxes
and fees.

While we understand that this increase was unexpected, the previous
tonnage charge to transit the Panama Canal was never an itemized per
person charge, and the voyage fare for your vacation remains the same.
That said, we will be enhancing these two voyages to make them even more
special for our guests considering this recent increase and hope that
you will be onboard for all the fun and festivities.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard the Disney Magic for this
extremely popular itinerary next year.

Sincerely,

Joseph

Chrissie

Never had one in all the times we were to Disney, but that was the first thing we ordered from room service on the Wonder!

Now we can spend the next yeat thinking about "special" things DCL is adding to the cruise! Oh my poor brain!

Oh I guess I have to go to work..Have a great Friday everyone!

Hey EB - just got this email, and am sharing it - if it already has been shared, sorry. Don't think I feel much better with this response though . . .
