Hi Jeff, you have been gone for a little while. :)

A LOT going on at work and the next month won't be any better. Throw on doing taxes on the side and I have no time. I try to get an hour or two every so often to get on the DIS.

After yesterday with the cold weather and high winds today is MUCH better - it's still cold (about 12 degrees) but we have sunshine - I'm not too happy about losing the extra hour either.

David

Afternoon Fine day here.

They say Easter will be above average warmth!

As much as I harass Andy for his 3:45 early mornings, I'm one of those who wanders the decks in the wee hours

Not me............I just woke up..........Sounds like Andy scores Again. Congrats Me Hearty !!!!

Still think in the case of a Swabbie Victory...........We should capture a Wench.......Not a Pirate :confused3

That comment brought a laugh to me.:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Thanks. My DS complains I take too many sunrise/sunset pics, but with digital, not like it costs anything....

I take TONS of sunrise pictures (seem to be too busy at sunset). But like you said, with digital, what difference does it make?

Jeff I think it was either MR, or Mark that started using that way back when.

It looks like it was MR a while back. I didn't hear it until earlier last week. I just remember it because someone used in a reply to me. Now I'm seeing all the time.

Thank G my son is only 7, but he is already getting that attitude. DW read in some magazine that kids start testing you around 7 or 8, and right about at 7 he started. :furious:

I think I might go relax on the deck and watch some TV. DH is doing a bit of housework. Gotta love that!:)

They grow up so fast. 1 1/2 years and mine is I guess will be in his Twenties. Hopefully it isn't a repeat of the terrible 2's.:)

We have a 6 and 3 year old girls... and up to now they've bot been fairly sweet little kids. HOWEVER... the little one seems to have discovered that Mom and Dad are sheltering her a bit from the predations of her older sibling. So she is beginning to push the outer limits in some ways. I sometimes have to pause to consider carefully how I want to react as she looks on at us.

Now... if we were to be ... CHALLENGED. That would be another thing. Not that I don't want to foster a sense of self-empowerment in my kids. But supreme control over ALL decision making - or even decision making on adult/parent level coices is NOT going to be an option for a 7-18 year old. I imagine I'll gradually be extending choices and freedom accordingly.. but I guess right now I am still pretty far out of the game with just a 6 year old as the eldest.

Tom, I really enjoy DS. He is alot of fun even if he is a stinky teen. It seemed like he really got his independence when he got his own car. But we still keep close tabs on him, IYKWIM. He knows there are rules and consequences for breaking them. And at 6 and 3 you have a ways to go, but DS learned about consequences early.:)

Really great doesn't come close to describing it!
M.'s trip report in 500 words or less:

Kahana, Maui condo with a beautiful view of Maoloka'i

Awesome authentic luau @ Old Lahaina - shirtless man brought me free drinks all night! Poi report: DS8 & I liked it, DS6 & DH didn't.

Getting up at 3:30 am on vacation – evil. Sunrise at the top of Halelaka Crater – priceless.

I do, I do like snorkeling. Thank you, thank you , Sam I am! Snorkeled Black Rock, then took a boat trip to snorkel Molokini Crater & another site (100'+ visibility at both). Saw sea turtles & many fish (from water) & whales & dolphins (from boat). Boys freaked out at first but loved it by the end of the day (wore lifejackets).

MIL & FIL renewed their vows on the beach (40th anniversary). Plantation House- second best dinner of the trip.

Road to Hana – we took an unofficial, uncharted hike following a rambling narrative that I had in a book. The adventure included several wrong turns, a jaunt through a dense bamboo forest & scaling the wrong 12’ sheer rock face. But we managed to see all 4 waterfalls on the hike and had 2 of them to ourselves to swim under. My family will now always refer to scrapes and bruises as ‘adventure’. As in: “How is your adventure this morning?”

Hopped to Honolulu and the military resort on Waikiki Beach – Hale Koa (house of the warrior in Hawaiian). Awesome resort, lovely view. Can’t beat the price. Beach side of Waikiki is great, but it is in the middle of the city. I don’t like my beach views to come with traffic noise. It was only an issue from our balcony, once we were actually on the beach we couldn’t hear downtown.

Ate dinner at the last remaining original ‘50’s-‘60’s Tiki Room - La Mariana Sailing Club. Very cool!

Climbed to the top of Diamond Head. Beautiful views and lots of steps. MIL & FIL took the kids for the day so DH & I went surfing. OK, so we are active people, but I still wouldn’t recommend a scamper up Diamond Head followed by an afternoon of surfing! We both actually surfed pretty well for newbies. Had dinner at Roy’s – best meal of the trip. Roy was the guest judge for the Top Chef finale in Hawaii this year.

Visited Pearl Harbor. Drove up the North Shore – disappointing because the big waves are gone this time of year. DH & DSs conquered the world’s largest maze at the Dole Plantation. We celebrated with a Dole Whip! Yes, a Dole Whip! YAY!

Spent yesterday lounging poolside and racking up quite the bar tab since it was our last day. We showered at IL’s condo, ate at Duke’s, and jumped on an 11 pm flight back to the cold.

M, it sounds like an amazing trip. I am green with envy!! Thanks for the great report.

M, jet lag is the worst thing about Hawaii. Last time we were there i went straight back to work the next day. Took me a good week to get over it. This year i am taking off a couple of days when I get back, hopefully.:)

It was more 'not sleeping on the red eye' than jet lag. We are only 2 hours ahead of Hawaii this time of year. We spring forward, they don't.

I was really just looking for an excuse to be lazy yesterday. This is our first Sat.-Sun. without hockey since September!

OK I know you are only in Alaska, not the pole.

Well, now - that's just insulting! We have modern technology up here. We get our walls from the automatic ice maker, not the old-fashioned trays.

She really does enjoy working at B-a-B!!! I asked her last night when I picked her up after her first 8 hour shift if she was tired, and she said, "No, the time went really fast." She is having so much fun interacting with the kids that come in. We hear funny stories after each shift now.

I'm late on the congrats to Aneglina!
I figure if you have to have a lousy minimum wage job as a teen, it might as well be someplace fun. I worked at the Disney Store when I was a year or 2 older than she is. It was hard to be in a bad mood in that place. The only downside is that the video/music loop is only about 45 minutes long...over and over and over again!
