so off to bed for me....
safe travels Andrew!!

Hi pirates!

The wireless access at the DLH (Magic tower) is working like a charm . . .

Laura picked us up in Huntington Beach this morning, and even had lunch with us at In-And-Out Burger before dropping us off here! If I get a chance, I will load my pictures and post one of Laura and my girls in front of her fabulous wheels . . .

We got to CA at 12:15 and were able to ride California Screamin twice and Toy Story Mania twice before heading back here around 3 to get our room . . . I don't find the crowds to be that bad.

We have the Fantasmic Dessert seating tonight, so after we swim for a bit we will head to that park . . .

See everyone SOON!:cool1:

We plan on doing In and Out tomorrow straight from LAX.

I guess the drive to Westchester Airport went well!

There are no discounts in DL for using a DDE card is there?

I have a DDE and have not packed it. Please answer ASAP... leaving for airport in 9 hours!!

The Roaming Gnome is a travelling Door Manget... when you get it... sign it and pass it on.
I'm so jealous you are all going to In N' Out!

good evening everyone! we finally made it!! now i find myself "checking people out" wondering if it's someone that's been chatting here! can't wait to start meeting all you guys!
WOO HOO, so glad you finally made it!

Morning all,

Just posting from BA Lounge at Heathrow T5, all checked in and rady to get onboard so will be in LA at 1pm USA time today
Have a great flight!

Question for BIP or anyone else who is using the So Cal parkhopper. Did you have any trouble using the tickets today?

TIA!
Oh I wish someone else had replied.. we didn't go to DL today but we will be going tomorrow. I'll post tomorrow (anytime we come back to the room but may not be till late if we make it at DL allll day long!) but not sure if you'll still be able to get that info BEFORE you try to use yours! LOL sorry I'm no help. I hope we don't have any problems with it tomorrow!

Glad you made it:goodvibes

Bip didn't get to the park today. She slept in.

Storm brewing in the tropics. :scared1: Hope we get out of here safely on Friday.
storm brewing eh? Well it can wait so you can get out of there safely on FRiday! Fingers crossed and sending you some pixie dust!

Now off to bed for me- for real! :)

Oh one more post LOL
forgot to say that wireless works fine here at HOJO not only at pool and in first floor of building one- but I'm also on it NOW at the smoking area at HOJO if anyone is interested in knowng if it works there. Well atleast it's a bench to sit on even if you don't smoke. LOL

And the crowds must be GREAT late at night because we were walking thru DTD about 9pm-ish and walked by the DL entrance around that time and ohmy.... talk about a swarm of people coming out! I guess most leave early because of young children and/or they live locally or something and work the next day? I dunno. But it was like it was closing time or something (at WDW for comparison sake) =so us nightowls are looking forward to less crowds those last cpl of hours atleast. LOL
if we're not freezing-- we'll see how cold it gets in the next cpl of days. Tonight it's very nice outside! :)

Oh and on another note- I guess there is one advantage to Jeff flying in later.. he can bring stuff we forgot! We forgot a few things= so it's nice he'll be able to bring them later. hehe

Actually, if there is a phone# next to the charge it would be faster to just call them.Really, most banks do not have any additional info about the charges except telling you the type of merchant it is. They will probably write off that charge as it is so small. Ask if it was swiped or keyed in. May help remember
what it is.

Looks like Brendan was happy :lmao:

Congrats. Safe Travels.

I have 1 full 10 hour day and 3 hours tomorrow. Then I get my hair colored. We did have 3 appts on Thurs am. They called to delay my Mammogram so I resched for Sept. DH had an xray for his knee which I will be cancelling today and a Dr appt which we put off til Sept. Thursday is crunch day. The clothes are decided upon. Now to sort thru all the STUFF we have hoarded thru these months. Looks like an entire other suitcase. Yes we are traveling heavy. 2 large bags, 1 next size down, Garment bag and we are taking those small carryons with us DS will be bringing the laptop over and DD thinks she has a case for it. The one DS has is not quite big enough and he has had to cram it in. Obviously my mind is not on work. That calendar just stares at me all day.

Oh I knew there was something else. I noticed a charge that was being disputed yesterday. "Vistaprints" something or other. 14.95 each month.Said she ordered stuff from them last year. For those of you that ordered the postcards etc from them, apparently there was some sort of offer on the site. Just check your statements and cancel it asap if you see anything like that. Poor woman had it for 9 months and never noticed. Shame. Check your bills carefully !!!

Gotta print out all my contact #s ,email addresses, collect the Drs cards. Hopefully the Rx will be ready today. Albertsons was bought out for the most part here by Publix and they took over the drug dept at anopther location til they renovate the store. Took almost an hour to get them on the phone. I'm sending DH today. Let him deal with it. Will most likely transfer it to the CVS down the street.
:thumbsup2

Not yet! Maybe 2009!!

Thanks for the heads up -- I left 25dd in charge of finding out WDW stuff!

Poly is just way tooloud for me when you walk in... I would like to try the Contemporary sometime..... DH HAS to stay @ a monorail resort.
We hav stayed at Polynesian 3 times Contemporary 2 times and the next one is 2009 for the Contemporary, looking forward to seeing all the changes but will be a breif stop for 3 nights only.

I really like the fact you can walk to MK, so no crowd issues late at night, and Chef Mickeys and of course your own internal monorial station.
Looks like a fun day Desiree!!!

Quite an accomplishment:cheer2: and think of all those people you helped!!!:flower3:

I don't want to see the roaches.........I just meant the computer light on.;)

So where does that mean you will be traveling where with him???:confused3

It is everything from the Health and Beauty that weigh so much. First take sun tan lotion to get tan........then take aloe vera if you tan..........then take sunblock to prevent tan. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
:thumbsup2

With less than 48 hours to departure, I figure it was finally time to start packing. Mind you, I've been throwing stuff in a pile for the past week or so, but it was finally time to see if it fit.

Not even close.

Worse, it's not enough to fill the luggage - I have to take into account now the problem of coming home. Yes, some of what I'm bringing is "last use" disposable (one pair of shoes, and consumables), but I also have to allow for the fact that a certain amount of my cruise wardrobe will be stuff I buy on the cruise (I'm a sucker for T-Shirts, sweatshirts, etc - about 80% of my T-Shirts are Disney park or DCL wear).

And being an (all too) experienced traveler, I know that I'll inevitably bring too much anyway. So next came the pruning. A lot of pruning.

Anyway, things are looking promising at the moment. My box of FE gifts and books has arrived at the hotel (at least according to USPS). With the heavy items shipped, I should be under 50 pounds, and have some spare room for the extras.

Tomorrow I tackle the carry-on.

And yes, though mildly jealous of those already there, truth is, I still have a ton of things to do and need every minute of the next <two days.

Hope all those in transit have safe trips.

UNbelievable....
robert already lost his pirate hat. We had it maybe a total of 15min (from the time we purchased it to the time we had walked to the hotel). when we got here the girls went up to the room, he went to the arcade across the hall from the store while I grabbed some breakfast stuff since Von's will deliver long after we have had breakfast and left for DL..... and somewhere in that time he lost it. He probably set it down in the arcade room. Front desk didn't get it and they said the store people clean up the arcade before locking it and would have turned in the hat to them if they found it. So someone took it already (in the 30min or so between time he was in the arcade and time it closed)
Lovely huh?
didn't even have it long enough to get his name embroidered on it.
*sigh*
This is my life with these kids! Most likely he took it off cause some older boys were in there and he wanted to look "cool" and not like a "baby" with the hat on- but he didn't THINK about the fact that if he took it off he might set it down and forget it! And I was too busy getting food and carrying it when we went up... to think about if he had his hat on or not. He's 10-you'd think he could atleast keep up with it long enough to get to the room!
arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
wasted money and I hate wasted money! LOL

 Don't miss the ship ! I am going to try and get everything done before Friday. Key word try.:rotfl2:

Hey Everyone,

We made it to California safely. Even Nicky survived, although I wasn't too sure he was going to make it after the second 3 & 1/2 hour flight. He was bouncing off the walls by the time we finally arrived.

We're at the Disneyland Hotel. Here's the view from our room:

Can't wait to meet up with everyone in the next few days and on the cruise!

Wishing safe travels to all!

Hav a great first part of your trip Mike. We'll see you soon.

I don't remember who it was the other night who told me they had the canon sd camera. I got my sd1000 today and the image on the screen is very grainy. The picture comes out fine, but the screen resolution looks horrible. I'm not sure if this is normal or it could be the lighting at night. Not sure if I should try to get amazon to overnight another one or if I should do with this until we get back and then exchange it....

Pretty interesting documentary on Pirates called "The Pirate Code" on the National Geographic Channel right now. Will be replayed at 11pm EST.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_code

Historical articles of piracy

In the second half of the 17th century, buccaneers began operating under a set of rules variously called the Chasse-Partie, Charter Party, Custom of the Coast, or Jamaica Discipline. These eventually became known as Articles of Agreement, or the pirate's code. Pirate articles varied from one captain to another, and sometimes even from one voyage to another, but they were generally alike in including provisions for discipline, specifications for each crewmate's share of treasure, and compensation for the injured.

Each crew member was asked to sign or make his mark on the articles, then swear an oath of allegiance or honor. The oath was sometimes taken on a Bible, but legend suggests that other pirates swore on crossed pistols, swords, or axes, or on a human skull, or astride a cannon. This act formally inducted the signer into the pirate crew, generally entitling him to vote for officers and on other "affairs of moment," to bear arms, and to his share of the plunder. The articles having been signed, they were then posted in a prominent place, often the door of the grand cabin.

After a piratical cruise began, new recruits from captured ships would sometimes sign the articles, in some cases voluntarily, in other cases under threat of torture or death. Valuable sea artists, such as carpenters and navigators, were especially likely to be forced to sign articles under duress, and would rarely be released regardless of their dicision to sign or not. In some cases, even willing recruits would ask the pirates to pretend to to force them to sign, so that they could plead they were forced should they ever be captured by the law. Generally, men who had not signed the articles had a much better chance of acquittal at trial if captured by the law.

Pirate articles are closely related to, and in some cases derived from, privateering articles, which similarly provided for discipline and regulated distribution of booty (though usually far less equally than with pirate articles). By the 19th century, ordinary merchant ships also had articles specifying wages and rules, which crewmen had to sign upon shipping aboard. Few, if any, sources make clear when merchant articles first appeared and what relationship existed between them and pirate articles.

Three complete or nearly complete sets of piratical articles have survived, chiefly from Charles Johnson's A General History of the Pyrates, first published in 1724. A partial code from Henry Morgan is preserved in Alexandre Exquemelin's 1678 book The Buccaneers of America. Many other pirates are known to have had articles. Few pirate articles have survived, because pirates on the verge of capture or surrender usually burned their articles or threw them overboard, to prevent the papers being used against them at trial.

Bartholomew Roberts' articles

One of the best known sets of pirate articles was set down by the famous Welsh pirate Bartholomew Roberts in 1720.[1]

I. Every man has a vote in affairs of moment; has equal title to the fresh provisions, or strong liquors, at any time seized, and may use them at pleasure, unless a scarcity (not an uncommon thing among them) makes it necessary, for the good of all, to vote a retrenchment.

II. Every man to be called fairly in turn, by list, on board of prizes because, (over and above their proper share) they were on these occasions allowed a shift of clothes: but if they defrauded the company to the value of a dollar in plate, jewels, or money, marooning was their punishment. If the robbery was only betwixt one another, they contented themselves with slitting the ears and nose of him that was guilty, and set him on shore, not in an uninhabited place, but somewhere, where he was sure to encounter hardships.

III. No person to game at cards or dice for money.

IV. The lights and candles to be put out at eight o'clock at night: if any of the crew, after that hour still remained inclined for drinking, they were to do it on the open deck

V. To keep their piece, pistols, and cutlass clean and fit for service.

VI. No boy or woman to be allowed amongst them. If any man were to be found seducing any of the latter sex, and carried her to sea, disguised, he was to suffer death;(so that when any fell into their hands, as it chanced in the Onslow, they put a sentinel immediately over her to prevent ill consequences from so dangerous an instrument of division and quarrel; but then here lies the roguery; they contend who shall be sentinel, which happens generally to one of the greatest bullies, who, to secure the lady's virtue, will let none lie with her but himself.)

VII. To desert the ship or their quarters in battle, was punished with death or marooning.

VIII. No striking one another on board, but every man's quarrels to be ended on shore, at sword and pistol. (The quarter-master of the ship, when the parties will not come to any reconciliation, accompanies them on shore with what assistance he thinks proper, and turns the disputant back to back, at so many paces distance; at the word of command, they turn and fire immediately, (or else the piece is knocked out of their hands). If both miss, they come to their cutlasses, and then he is declared the victor who draws the first blood.)

IX. No man to talk of breaking up their way of living, till each had shared one thousand pounds. If in order to this, any man should lose a limb, or become a cripple in their service, he was to have eight hundred dollars, out of the public stock, and for lesser hurts, proportionately.

X. The captain and quartermaster to receive two shares of a prize: the master, boatswain, and gunner, one share and a half, and other officers one and quarter.

XI. The musicians to have rest on the Sabbath Day, but the other six days and nights, none without special favour.

QIGONG

My Father in Law has asked me to offer:

If anyone is interested in learning more about the Chinese healing techniques and holistic approaches related/associated - my FIL would like to offer courtesy treatment sessions and informal fact finding meetings on the ship. He's a retired chest surgeon who has practiced for decades in the greater Pittsburgh area - and now resides in Honolulu. Anyone so interested can PM me = and I'll keep you advised as to when they he will host meetings. he may lead Chinese style early morning exercise sessions too. He has been doing all this in Honolulu for many years.

I was expecting / thinking he might conduct his meetings in the promenade lounge and off the fantail on the secret verandah deck 7? Here's a photo below with Sam on the far right: If you're interested and spot him on the ship - just stop him and ask about his session plans:

qigong.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qigong

Qigong (or ch'i kung) refers to a wide variety of traditional “cultivation” practices that involve methods of accumulating, circulating, and working with Qi or energy within the body. Qigong is sometimes mistakenly said to always involve movement and/or regulated breathing; in fact, use of special methods of focusing on particular energy centers in and around the body are common in the 'higher level' or evolved forms of Qigong. Qigong is practiced for health maintenance purposes, as a therapeutic intervention, as a medical profession, a spiritual path and/or component of Chinese martial arts.

The 'qi' in 'qigong' means breath or gas in Chinese, and, by extension, 'life force', 'energy' or even 'cosmic breath'. 'Gong' means work applied to a discipline or the resultant level of skill, so 'qigong' is thus 'breath work' or 'energy work'. The term was coined in the twentieth-century and its currency, Ownby suggests, speaks of a cultural desire to separate 'cultivation' from 'superstition', to secularize and preserve valuable aspects of traditional Chinese practices.[1]

Attitudes toward the scientific basis for qigong vary markedly. Most Western medical practitioners and many practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as the Chinese government, view qigong as a set of breathing and movement exercises, with possible benefits to health through stress reduction and exercise. Others see qigong in more metaphysical terms, claiming that cosmic qi can be drawn into the body and circulated through channels (aka meridians).
