Any chess players on board?

My DS11 - loves to play chess - he doesn't compete, isn't up to that level yet but he is taking some instructional classes and just enjoys playing

Any other children that may be interested in just getting together one day, informally, to play? I believe they have chess boards in one of the bar areas, which are open during the day for everyone

This can be discussed once onboard if that works better for everyone
I didn't want to set up another meet time or anything like that ahead of time as I am sure some people would like to just have some down time

We will be in room 6540 if anyone decides that they would like to play, give us a call

Jo

My DS11 Chris would likely be interested

Pulling this over for the person who was asking about Dolphins in PV, is this different than the DCL excursion for us?

this is different. I just checked it out and it's a different place and has that waterpark/etc. the one we're doing with DCL doesn't mention a waterpark. And they call it different names than this place does. Appears it's further away too.
I'm seriously considering booking this but I got almost done (got to checkout) and then thought.. what if we don't end up going to that port? If we keep our booking with DCL we don't get charged- right? But with this we're paying in advance. And I can't find anywhere on the website that says anything about a refund- so we'd be out a lot of money for nothing for all 5 of us...save lots if we end up going, lose a lot of money if we for some reason can't make that port and have already paid in advance.
It sounds the same as the signature swim for the most part (except not as many restrictions as DCL but also doesn't include lunch) BUT it also includes a waterpark which I know my kids would love. they dig the waterparks. LOL
ahhhhhhhh decisions decisions. I wonder if that person knows if they refund for any reason like if you don't make it to that port on your cruise. I'll have to hunt them down and ask them!

We were thinking of hopping a bus to pick up som Baccardi and Crown ourselves,on Sat. Thought we might take a break form DL and go. :confused3
We are thinking of taking the bus to the shopping center at Orangethorpe(sp). We have been told we cannot leave without trying In and Out Burgers. There is also a Disney Outlet there.

When your checking out the stickers on ebay, search for a tiara and gloves.

The coolers were ordered from Staples, but they were on clearance and are no longer available. There's one here but it's slight more than the one from Staples.

I have a raincheck from Walgreens for that one for 14.99. Still haven't made up my mind if I need it or not. It is reg 19.99
Plan is to put one case of water on DHs scooter and just drive it on the ship like we do at PC,unless someone has a better idea. We may pick up an additional one at PV if needed. The thought of dragging that cooler til the room is open just doesn't excite me. Plus we will have the 2 little wheelies as well. Whew!!!! What is everyone else doing????

My kids have landed in Sydney!!! :dance3: :dance3: I received a quick email from Samantha (17, dd) while they were at the airport -- she didn't say how she was able to email...I guess they had some sort of Internet cafe in the airport! LOL!

The Youth leader has sent out emails from both Korea & Sydney so, I haven't been with out any communication. ;)

DH has been looking online for pics, a friend called me to today to let me know that they showed people arriving in Sydney on the local news today. :goodvibes
DH said that he read that there are more people there for World Youth Day then were there for the Olympics

If anyone watchs EWTN When *Sisters For Life* are on this week (Wed?) our kids will be with that group.

I noticed that they also televised the WYD opening Mass at 2am this morning. They will present an encore at 12n, 9pm and midnight (EST). I do get EWTN with my cable provider, but if someone doesn't you can also watch a live feed from the website.

I hope I did this right. I'm still learning this graphic stuff too. But I spent a few hours yesterday learning how to make the background transparent. Thing is I spent so much time taking out unwanted colors that I didn't get much time to play around to make sure it was all transparent.

bannernobackground.png

Thanks so much Monica! I'll try to play around with it later. If it comes out alright, I'll let you know!:thumbsup2

I wish you'd thought to have me scope that out for you when I was down there. :confused3
But then...I don't remember....if you buy liquor in port, do you get to take it to your room or do they take it and give it to you at the end of the cruise?

I know that a couple years ago we brought liquor onboard and took it back to our room with us. I think the only time they hold it until the end of the cruise is if you buy it from their onboard shop.

I can fix this for you if you want. I'll do it when I get in to work in the morning. PM me what program you're using and I'll send you a fixed file! :)

I think the pic Monica gave me will work, but thank you so much for the offer!:)

And another post (by someone) mentioned being on the pirate roll call.
What's that?
http://www.thepiratezone.us/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=194

I'm combining the roll call and FE exchange list into one color coded map and listing by deck, and an alphabetical index by DIS name.

Well if you're stuck in that boat- it looks like Jesus is rowing so you should atleast be okay. ;)

Then again, if Jesus -- who calmed the waves with a word -- actually needs to row the boat, you could be in very deep doo doo! :rotfl:

I believe we are meeting at 2 P.M. for the meet. Someone may correct me as I may be wrong but that is what I wrote down.

I thought it was going to be after the drill. :confused3 With a group this size maybe it should start at 2pm and continue until the sailaway. There is no way all of us can say hello to each other in a half an hour, right. I know my girls will be in the pool after lunch and DW will be unpacking.

Our Youth minister put a big write up in the bulletin yesterday about the conference and referenced it being live on EWTN how cool! We have no one from our parish attending that I am aware of, San Diego hosts Steubenville in two weeks which is highly attended by our youth group. This will be my boys' second year attending. Did any of your kids ever attend Steubenville? 5,000+ teenagers mostly from the Western US all here for the same purpose is truly awe inspiring. I am afraid to tell the boys about a world wide conference, they would want to go ::yes::

Glad you heard from your DD and all is well.

Michelle

I know what you mean about it being awe-inspiring, Michelle. This will be my ds's third year of Catholic Youth Summer Camp (in August), and the sight of all of those young people praising God and worshipping together....it brings tears to my eyes every year! :)

My ds will want to attend Stubenville when he is a little older. The Stuebenville conferences here (in Ohio) were every weekend June 13 through July 11, 4 conferences total. And it was at Franciscan University of Stuebenville, Ohio (imagine that!) :goodvibes

I have a client that was at the Sea Life Park in PV during one of the June cruises - they said they really enjoyed it and when they contacted them about their policy if the ship didn't dock they said that they would get a full refund. You may want to contact them and ask, print out their reply just in case. You do have to take a cab on your own to get there and back

My DS11 Chris would likely be interested

DS9.5 loves to play chess. He got a set for Christmas [the special Target POC version of course] and plays whenever he can talk us into it.

DD9 might be. She learned how to play in school this past year.

That is great - he would love to have someone else to play with. I have to see if I have a small set I can take with us that doesn't weigh a lot. This way maybe they can play anywhere on board. I know we have a plastic set somewhere.

Lisa, I pm'd you back with DS's email

Thanks for the info about the PV dolphin swim. I just booked that because it saved us over $400!!! (even accounting for the taxis there. The DCL excursion included lunch but we probably wouldn't have liked it anyway and this way the kids get to swim at the waterpark too! Thanks so much!

now the question is.. after I get confirmation of our booking- do I cancel the signature swim with DCL online? ANd if so.... is anyone else wanting to book that excursion that I can maybe help them out by arranging to do it at the same time or something? we're currently booked 5 of us for the dolphin signature swim in PV.... that's what I'm gonna cancel!
I'm home and I'm praying nothing else happens.:wizard:

There's no way I'll be able to ketchup. I hope I didn't miss much.

Oh, I forgot to sign up for the name tags before I left. Of course now I can't remember who to PM.:sad2: Can someone please help me out with this?

Wow. I can't believe it's almost time to fly out to LA!:dance3:

mkygrl is the one you send the info to. (Chrissie)
She needs username here, name of everyone and/or what you want them called, favorite characters and room number. :)

Good morning everyone! I just realized last night that yesterday was my one month mark for the TOAL. A month from today dd and I will be wandering around DL! Got to get packing.

Had a computer glitch last night. Scared me to death. I thought my computer was crashing. :scared1: It wouldn't turn off! I had to unplug the power cord and let the battery drain. Tried it this morning and it worked fine. Hope it was just a one time thing!

When your checking out the stickers on ebay, search for a tiara and gloves.

Monica, I have a die cut of a tiara and a wand. When I get home tonight I'l cut one out and post a pic. If I remember it would be about 1 1/2"x 1".

Patch Swap

So I made a decision in order to ensure the information was printed in the Pirate Navigator. The patch swap will be held on the second sea day. Thursday, August 21st at 9:30am at the Promenade Lounge. I hope all the swappers can make it.

If not swaps can be dropped off at participants rooms. Or if you drop the patches with me ahead of time I will try to swap them for you at the event and then get them to you.

I chose the Promenade Lounge as I figured if the girls wanted to do badge work or whatever they could probably stay in the Promenade lounge to do that after the swapping is over.

If you are interested in participating in the Patch swap please send me a PM.

Thanks!

Works for us. We have a bunch of patches. Thanks for organizing!

I did print out my stuff so I can work on my FE gifts at lunch!

Just noticed my counter is at 30 days!

M....as far as Mass time and location, DCL said in the most recent email they will provide that info to Fr. Mike. Hopefully, that will be prior to boarding, but they also said this info will be list in the DCL Navigator. So, maybe just put in our Navigator to check the DCL Navigator for time and location. Then, if Fr. Mike is given advanced notice, maybe you could edit it.

To M and Pamela.....thanks so much for taking this on!!! This is going to be such a tremendous help to all of us!!! :thumbsup2

About the dolphin swim: I've since found the info in the terms and conditions when you go to checkout/book it and it does say that! Thanks though. :)

about playing chess: I missed this mentioned before but my son LOVES to play chess. He's constantly begging us to play.. he'd love to play too :)
He doesn't know too many people that know how to play chess to be able to play with him.. like even when his friends are over none of them know how to play chess! LOL

Jo, I'll check with my ds about this....he likes to play chess.

Sounds good - As I said in a previous post we will be in room 6540 so give us a call if he is looking to play with someone. I am going to make a note about who is interested so maybe when we have our meet onboard we can mention that "oh he/she likes to play chess too" this will give them some common ground to start a conversation with.

If anyone interested would like to pm me their child's name and age I will keep the list updated

I started a thread at the pirate site too

Pictures please!!!:thumbsup2 I always love to see people as crazy as me.:lmao:

We had to remove the old border in there, and it took some of the wall with it. So, we have to repair those spots before we paint that room. I just can't seem to get motivated to do all of that. I think it may wait until the kids are back in school, and the weather outside is consistently crummy!

But Cheryl, it will in NO WAY compare to your house! :goodvibes

Bip, I was going to tell you to check the Terms and Conditions for their cancellation/refund policy, but I see that you already found that information. Which dolphin program did you book? We are booked for the Dolphin Encounter at 2 pm. I think Shannon (wheelerkidz3) is also. This was really the only option for us since I have a 1 and a 3 year old. But the nice part about that is that they're free! :thumbsup2
