I wasn’t asking a general question; I was asking a specific one. How would his answering your question with a yes or no brought any light to the discussion?

In regards to the BL issue, it would give me an indication on his/her thoughts on whether he/she believed that it is advised/rational for an individual to be triggered and feel attacked and feel their entire life is being challenged by an advertisement depicting a person different from that individual.

From that baseline, we can further the discussion. Depending on the answer, we could have discussed why its rational/advised to feel like your life is crumbling because of such an advertisement, or we could then continue to discuss further nuances.

In this case, after the answer, I personally felt we had found some common ground and it was a great opportunity to perhaps return to the thread's topic.

Happy to provide any further clarification if necessary!

Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks and every other movie studio should include WHOEVER they want in their movies. I think most people enjoy seeing movies that reflect general society's diversity. It means more viewers and more customers. With any product there is a market demographic that the company is going for and movie studios are showing us they are invited us all into the theater. Customers always have a choice in participating, they don't get a choice in the making.

I am perfectly happy for PIXAR (thread purpose) to be so diverse. I think it's great inclusivity, it's the world I live in, and I want it reflected. For most movies like Elemental I didn't think for a split second about the water people that others are upset about. WATER PEOPLE, who were wearing clothes, eating food, having drinks, playing games and laughing. WATER PEOPLE!!!! Are people upset about the "bush" kid who kept pushing plants out his armpits making a face like he was constipated? Like HE was a PLANT that was BIRTHING babies. :tilt:

Anyway, such ridiculousness. The problem I see with PIXAR is they have their beautiful visual creativity but they have loss their whimsical imaginative creativity. And while they made this common story have a creative angle, they also made a 10 and up movie using animation. I likely wouldn't take a younger child to it. DS#1 functions as a young child and he was bored. Kept looking to leave. He goes to 1-2 movies a week, this is the first time he got antsy and paid little attention to the movie.

While Toy Story has adult humor and lots we can enjoy, they also had TOYS, things kids could relate to, TOYS that came alive, things kids could relate to. How many young kids understand fire, wind, water, botany and chemical interactions?

And one thing DS#2 said is that the latest PIXAR movies are missing something that makes most these films work - a REAL VILLAIN. Not a cranky guy, a strict father, a dysfunctional family but a real VILLAIN. It creates the spine to a movie. I hope they find their way back because if not there will be more folks laid off.

I do agree on the villain thing too. I mean, I have enjoyed a lot of those movies and they don't all have to have one, a villain creates some verve that is often needed to push a story along.

Inside/Out didn't have a villain in the traditional sense and it worked, as did others.

But I agree, I think after Inside/Out 2 the next project needs a great villain!

Then again, a lot of Pixar movies are situational and don't have villains. I had to think about it, but a lot of them, some of the best ones, don't. But that doesn't mean that all of them shouldn't.

I was at the zoo with my granddaughter and my daughter said to her, "Let's go see Mei Mei." When I saw it was the panda I couldn't help laughing. I have to wonder if all zoo panda exhibits are being morphed into visit's with Mei Mei.

Puberty will be the villain of Inside/Out 2. Anyone with a teenager has met that villain multiple times.

Yes. A lot of people will say that Joy is the villain in Inside Out, but really the villain is Riley. The emotions are battling environmental upheaval, and their environment is Riley. Yes, Joy has been controlling and doesn't want to let go of that, but she can't help but be what Riley makes her be. She can't change that. And whether or not she is a "bad guy" she is still also the protagonist of the film.

Made the quick below chart, sorted by world wide gross. Its pretty even, but more do have a more traditional villain than not, which surprised me.

Ha - I was trying to come up with a lsit of Villain/No Villain, but found it compliucated as some movies sorta have one, but not really. Like Sid in the first Toy Story - he's A villain, but also not the major antagonist. The case could be made that Woody is the villain - maybe. I think what this shows is how good Pixar has been at thinking outside the box!

Exactly! My list is in no way perfect regarding the villains but to your point they've done a pretty good job. I would like to see a new big bad villain!

Taking a general discussion and making it personal almost always leads to name calling and threads getting locked or deleted. Too many posters use that type of question as a tool to deflect or attack.

Well, Lightyear did have a villain. I don't know that it was a particularly strong one, but it had one.

I appreciate your thoughts and concerns.

Wait a minute now...

Talk about controversy! I'm going to let you have this one since you provide the best Orlando hotel advice out there :)
Aside from all the flaws of the presentation of emotions - which could have impacted some people especially impressionable children .... the limited cast, with limited range in a slow moving story, for people maybe like me that want a bit more action, it was a snooze and kinda dark. Perhaps the emotions themselves were the villains of the movie.

AND it really depends on how a viewer's own emotions evolved and how they handle them.

Anyone else thinking it is a little odd that two big wigs at Disney have left in a week off of Iger's leadership team? Both the CFO and the CDO have left in the last 7 days.

Anyone know what's going on?
