I am planning to throw a mini-new yrs party for my son and a few of his friends. I have a friend who is trying to get a party planning business off the ground, and she wants to throw a disco dance party for us. for those of you with 7 yr old boys, would a group of 7 yr old boys enjoy a disco dance party with games, dance contests, prizes, etc?

thanks!

Sounds like fun! But do 7 year old boys dance with each other, and do they even know what disco is? :confused3

I just can't imagine 7 year old boys having that kind of party. Is there any other theme she could do for you? Sports? Cars?

My son is now 10, but I can't imagine that being a big hit when he was seven. I think he would have been embarrassed and his guests would have been bored to tears.

sorry but I can't see that for 7 year old boys...:confused3
It sounds like one they would always remember and maybe not in a good way for your son....:rotfl2:

My oldest would've hated it (I don't think I've ever seen him dance - ever!), and although my almost 6 year old ds would probably like it (he's an awesome dancer - he's taken ballet and hip-hop with his twin sister), he'd never admit to it to his friends (who I can't imagine dancing).

Hell yes! At least my nephew and his friends would enjoy it. They just love playing 'freeze dance', and games etc. He is 8 now and would enjoy it, let alone a few years ago.

For his 8th birthday party he had many elements of Hannah Montana incorporated into his party, paper plates, cups, music, etc. And not one of his friends thought it was odd. He has a huge crush on her, as do many of his friends. They also had a survival obstacle course outside along with other fun stuff.

I can't believe some of these other answers, I fear that many kids aren't allowed just to be kids and enjoy themselves.

This statement makes no sense whatsoever. Just because you seem to have one of the few boy children who likes to dance freely with his friends, doesn't mean other people are keeping their kids from being kids. I don't know any 7 year boys in my life who would enjoy a disco dancing party, but they sure have had a heck of a lot of other fun parties in their lives. No one is keeping them from having fun and being themselves.....they just wouldn't enjoy a dance party. Sorry if that offends you.

I'm not sure if a disco theme would fly with 7-year olds; perhaps if your friend wants ideas to help start her business, she could do a "Wii" party, and incorporate Wii Fit, or Dance Dance Revolution, or any of those other Wii games that have you get up and move. :cool1: I think tying it into something that is popular with the kids will go over much better.

OMG...YES

I think its a great idea!! My son would think this is the greatest! We have Spring Break Parties, Christmas Parties, Summer Parties and YES the boys love to dance. They DONT dance with each other...basically they hop, skip, jump, dance, laugh........prizes & contests. They dont dance for 2 or 3 hours strait, its just the theme of the party and an activity to do.

Does your son and his friends like to go to school dances? Its the social aspect, snacks, fun & games, entertainment, socializing, having fun with your friends.....

A pizza party can be incorporated into this event......

7 year olds like to party too

If your worried about having all boys, invite a few girls from their class.

I agree! My ds doesn't dance, but he loves bike riding, wiffle ball, playing board games, legos, and even at 10, will connect the brio track if I bring it out! He plays on the swingset with his buddies (okay, not traditional swinging, it's a game that involved swinging and kickball, rolled into one :lmao: ), and they've always played together like kids, but I've know them all since they were 4, and can't picture them dancing. :confused3

Sorry, I don't see 7 year old boys enjoying that kind of party....girls perhaps, maybe even as a coed party....but all boys...nope.

Sounds better... i think it was the retro 'disco" context that had me:confused3 for 7 year olds.... DDR / freeze dance more contemporary theme sounds better....imo

Btw for the comment that made it sound like boys were being stiffled... my son 14 loves going to dances!!! but at 7 he and his friends were more into roller skating and hockey....

Oh and another thing...... 7 year olds would think Disco lights are Cool...but then again he still thinks his parents are Cool!! LOL :rotfl2:

****He wants to take his blue revolving light to Disney for NYE's hehehe

I think it would be a mistake to throw this kind of party for a little boy. Unless you are 100% sure that all invited would love, love, love it, you are really setting him up for ridicule.

Even then, if other kids hear about it, they will make fun of him. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Mine would not have liked that. Sports, jokes (dumb ones), video games. Not disco. They didn't know what that was. Disco as a retro theme is fun for the grown-ups, not the kids.

My boys weren't into dancing, either.

It would be a hit at my place. The elementary school had a retro type event and every kid there knew YMCA. Our son has several Disco CD's and knows the words to many songs, he is only 9. When the neighborhood kids are in the garage playing, I often see dancing to the music. The disco ball would make the party even better.

You would know your son and his friends best, but the 7 year old boys I know would be much more interested in skateboarding or sports.

I would say that despite your friend's best intentions, it seems obvious that your not completely on board with this choice or you wouldn't be asking a bunch of people on the internet their opinions. I'd suggest that you talk with her and try a different theme.
