The sweetpea is 11 and in 6th grade, and her fave store right now is Tilly's. She can't seem to get enough of it. And she's a girl who doesn't like to shop and dress.

Thanks for all the replies. Based on the poll I'm leaning toward LTD2. I thought maybe it would be too babyish at 10, but maybe not.

Any other opinions are welcomed!:goodvibes

Oddly enough, she thinks the Hollister and Abercrombie stores are too loud (the music) and too dark, so if it's her choice, she prefers Aeropostale.

TOO FUNNY!!!!!!! Both of my girls say that those stores are "scary" and they don't like them but I've never heard anyone else say that! And mine are 11 and 13 - even the 13-y-o likes Aeropostale, American Eagle, Gap,and Limited Too MUCH better. Which is great because I won't buy them anything from Hollister and Abercrombie - mostly due to the advertising photos they use that are trashy (or at least they used to!) Claire's is also a good one but their favorite gift card is for Target because they can get anything there!

DD7 princess: and she already LOVES Limited Too... boy oh boy am I in for a long 3 years.............. :scared1:

I know that Ltd Too is leading in the poll, but Aeropostale wasn't listed. It seems like a large majority of posters voted for Aeropostale though.

I think Ltd Too would be fine for a 10 year old, but you never know at this age. Like I posted upthread, it was fine when my dd was 10, but at 11, she's over Ltd Too. Maybe a gift card to Ltd Too would be a good idea? This way, if she didn't like the clothes there, she could always buy pajamas, jewelry, shoes, something for her room, etc.

Good luck.:)

We don't have any of those stores here in Barbados. However, between our vacation and business travel, our kids are very familiar with those brands!

DD10's tastes in clothes has changed a lot in the past year. There was a time that she would wear nothing but pink! Now she DETESTS pink unless it's a tiny trim. She likes browns, green (either olive or a light "apple-ish" shade of green) and khaki. She's a bit partial to Roxy clothes (the surfing influence) but not overly brand-loyal - the clothes just have to be in her chosen colour palette!

There was a time that she would have enjoyed a gift cert for Claires or the like, but she's making her own jewelry now!

My "baby" could really teach her teenaged sisters a thing or two about shopping! She's not bashful about buying clothes at thrift stores, rummage sales, school fundraisers etc. Her older sisters - now that's a different story! DD10 always seems to find the cool brands for a steal! Today we went to a fundraiser for another school and she bought a big bag full of "previously loved" clothes for less that 10% of what they would have cost retail. Suits me perfectly because I absolutely cannot keep up with recent growth spurt!

DD15, the clothes snob, once asked youngest DD how she could even consider buying second hand clothes. DD10's response - "What difference does it make? I wear lots of hand-me-downs from my sisters and my cousins anyway!" (She loves the idea of inheriting "cool stuff" from the teenagers!!)

I know she's a little older than the age range you listed, but my 13 y/o 8th grader loves Aeropostal, American Eagle and anything from Delia's.

Abercrombie runs big, so if she is small this may not work. I wear a 0 from pretty much everywhere...Abercrombie's 00 is HUGE on me...like falling off WITH a belt!

I agree with Aeropostale though

Delia's and Forever 21 have become big with my 8th grader. They aren't nearby though. I think I've even bought something for me at Forever 21 (sshhhh;) ) Also, a new find is H & M. Also none near by, but we both love that place.:)

You guys should all check out Steve and Barry's. They have Sarah Jessica Parker's "Bitten" line and Amanda Bynes new "Dear" line out right now. Venus Williams' new line comes out in November. All great clothes for girls and inexpensive!!!!

My kids HATE Steve and Barry's. There are two near here, and the stuff just seems to either rip, pill/or shrink rapidly. The jeans were only ok, they felt awful after a few washes.

For example, I got a pair of Marburys for my son. By the first week (yes the first week) the soles were uneven and by the beginning of the second week there were holes. My son is not a sports player either, this is just regular wear and tear. So much for cheap shoes if I had to buy another pay after two weeks-- even the inexpensive ones at Target lasted longer.

Yes, it is inexpensive, but I would rather buy something on sale at aeropostale or american eagle and get 3 of something by Steve and Barry's.

Okay, if you have a REALLY girly-girl...who shops at LTD2, where does she shop when that's too babyish?

Aeropostale, Abercrombie, American Eagle...the colors seem very muted and a bit tom-boyish.

Any opinions from a mom of an older girly-girl who still likes pinks, purples, baby blues, etc?:goodvibes

Have you tried H& M and Forever 21-- they have pretty bright clothes-- I was just in the mall today and both thier displays seemed pretty bright.

Thanks for the Forever 21 idea...what sizes do they begin with?

My neice shops there (she's in 10th grade now) and she's very petite...

I've seen middle schoolers shopping there, so I would guess a 0. I guess you could call them and ask?

My daughter (10) has a Forever 21 top on today and its a small. She's not rail thin but not on the heavy side and it fits her. Its cut on the snug side but she also has a cami underneath.
