We are considering trying 50's prime time because the idea of it, and the food sounds good, plus it is a place we've never tried in a park without a lot of options.

Just how over the top is it? How embaressing, etc?

How do they react if you don't finish your food? I almost never clear the plate at a restaurant because the servings are just too big and I'm afraid of the reaction. I once read a review where a woman didn't finish her corn and when it was time for dessert, her corn was brought out with whipped cream on top! Does this stuff really happen?

What has been your experience?

Thanks!

We have eaten here several times and have never had a very over-the-top server. We have seen other tables get a few interesting things but overall, not that many. I saw a dad have to stand up and sing row-row-row your boat for putting his elbows on the table while his children went crazy with laughter (the CM kept interrupting him and making him start the song over). I saw a honeymooning husband get humiliated for trying to put his green beans under his mashed potatoes after he had been told he needed to eat all of them (I felt bad for the guy; you could tell he didn't want the attention). We've never had anything more than being told to set the table, eat the vegetables, etc.

The portions are very generous here and the food is pretty good.

They made me stand in the corner... but i was playing along & it was a lot of fun.. I don't think they would have done that if we weren't receptive to it.. by the way; the last trip I ate at Ohana's and La Cellier and other less memorable places and I still swear that the pot roast at the 50s prime time was the best meal I had the whole time I was there.

I loved the food and theming at this restaurant. I wish our server had done MORE! But she was loud and teased my husband so that was good :) If you are worried about having any attention though, don't chance it and don't go. But I would highly suggest you try it and just go with the flow. It's a different experience and something that you can't usually do.

We love it there! If you like fried chicken, it's the best!!! We've been "picked on" and seen other people picked on. I think it depends in part on your server and also the vibe that you give out. Never seen anyone getting picked on that wasn't playing along. Good food, great dessert, just a fun place!!

My DD was 3 at the time and was in a very shy (and bad!) mood that day. She always gets in a horrible mood when she's intimidated, and our server picked up on that immediately. He was very nice to her the whole time, actually, and instead of making fun of us and yelling at us, he yelled at one of the other servers about being too loud and scaring her! She loved that! The only thing he did was to have DD encourage her daddy to eat his green beans, and she smiled when daddy listened to her. I wish I remembered our server's name, because he was so great about making her comfortable. We enjoyed some of the exchanges going on around us, but she knew that he wouldn't do that to her.:thumbsup2

our waitress was really good and didnt bug us to much....She even subbed hubbies greens for corn I believe it was..
BUT food was good and the waitress was good but the noise level was to much for me...gave me a headache.

Loved, loved, LOVED the food! I agree with lilmissbehaved - the pot roast is amazing!

DH and I ate there during our honeymoon this June, so obviously it was just the 2 of us. We didn't really get picked on too much, but that might have been because it was only the first day of our honeymoon and we were clearly in our own little world! :lovestruc

First request of the teeagers for next trip.... pot roast. fried chicken and meatloaf are yummy. If you have a teen stealth text them..... my son was beet red when he got busted for cel phone at the table.......We all still laugh about it.....

Thanks everyone! I think we will give it a try. We're ok with some teasing and will play along (it is disney world after all!) but I think I would be mortified if I had to get up and sing, especially for something like not finishing my meal which I know I won't!

Have done this restaurant 5 times, sometimes the foods good sometimes mediocre.

Some servers are into antics some low key'

Both time we've had servers that get into the act, we've had Grandchildren with us. Once with the 2 oldest (14 GS-10 GD) After teasing sister all night and her complaining, our server had him stand with his nose to the wall. All the other servers walking by na-na-na-na-na-na him. Everyone was :rotfl:

Another trip with 2 GD age 10. They both dressed up in fifties outfits. Poodle shirts, skirts, bobby socks and saddle shoes. Our server had them parading around room to room. spinning in circles.

DH and I had a blast this year, we had a great "cousin"' for a waitress, not too over the top but just enough to make it a lot of fun. I was texting my office manager something while we waited for our meal and our "cousin" took my phone and offered it up to the table across the room.

But I got her back, when we ordered coffee with our dessert (on the DDP) she told us it would have to come out of our allowance, I told her not a problem and off she went to get our dessert. Well, she forgot our coffee, so when she returned to check on how our dessert was I told her "Ooh, I'm tellin' Mom on you" she said "why, what did I do?" I told her "well you a mean cousin and you forgot our coffee" the room got a good laugh out of it (it wasn't very crowded), and she jokingly sulked in the corner and said that now it would have to come out of her allowance. We left her a big enough tip to cover the cost of the coffee though too (I usually do that)...it was a blast. Oh and my stuffed pepper - AMAZING!

The last time we were there was 5 years ago. This was back when you could just walk up for a late lunch and still get in within 5 minutes. We had my then DD4, DD2, and our niece who was 3 (with DSis and DBIL). We all had a blast. Since none of the adults could finish our food, our "Cousin" had to put our last (huge) bite on a fork and act like it was a plane coming in for a landing or a train going through a cave...with sound affects that the whole room had to do. It was hilarious. We are going back at the end of the month with my DILs and I cannot wait because I am really hoping that they pick on my DFIL for things (he likes to pick on me so it would be nice to have him get a dose of his own medicine :goodvibes). The last time I was there I had the pot roast that was really, really good....but this time I think I would like to try the Fried Chicken :cloud9:

I'm glad to read this. I have been there once and don't remember it other than being told not to put elbows on the table. FIL just decided to met us in June so DH added this for lunch instead of Sci-Fi. Hopefully my girls won't be upset they love Sci-FI, but FIL does not.

We've eaten there on our past two trips. Summer was lunch for my birthday. We had a great time with our server. He was perfect. He asked us who should set the table, and we all voted DAD!, so DH had to set the table and our server checked to make sure he was doing it right. Then he read us the rules - no elbows, clean your plate, etc. I got the fried chicken and he checked to make sure I wanted the greens, since I had to clean the plate.

I might add that DH and I had an adult beverage, too, which made it kind of silly. Our whole section sang happy birthday to me, then signed a birthday card. A lot of the folks really got into it, and signed "cousin Tom", etc. A little girl even came up to me to wish me Happy Birthday personally. Very sweet and fun.

Also, my son has ASD/autism and is not real interactive with strangers and the server picked up on it right away. He did not tease him, and he even gave him the clean plate sticker even though he hadn't cleaned his plate yet. But he talked directly to him, not around him, so he was really respectful - very nice.

Our second time was last month after park closing, so the restaurant was much quieter. We still had fun, and the food was great as always. My DD got a milkshake, and some of it spilled when she tried to pour it from the Monster Container into her glass, and the server brought her another huge glass of milkshake. DD couldn't finish it!!

We love any experience that we can participate in. We go 100% in on anything at Disney, so this place was fantastic for us.

We loved 50's PTC!:thumbsup2 Our food was great--we had the pot roast and meatloaf. This was one of our favorite meals at WDW. Our server wasn't in to the whole role playing thing though; she was courteous but barely said anything to us about eating vegetables, etc. She was just a regular waitress, albeit a good one. She also had a thick mexican accent and we could barely understand what she was saying. The kids really loved the hula hoop demonstrations outside the restaurant. I loved the decor; I felt like I was in my mom's house. There was even an ice bucket there that my mom still owns! The CM's thought I was out of my mind when I was taking a picture of an ice bucket.:lmao:

This turned out to be one of our favorite restaurants. The pot roast was amazing and the waitress we had was a lot of fun. We will be returning to eat here again in May!

I have been to Prime Time 50's Cafe numerous times and have found that the staff is very sensitive to the group. If they pick up on no interaction there is no interaction. If they pick up on please play with me, most likely this is done. Food just ok, so I would only go for interaction with the staff and the love of 50's memrobilia.

We enjoyed the food but my kids won't go back! They refer to this place as the "home of the evil waitress"! We had a very over the top waitress and scared my boys silly about thier manners and finishing their plates. They were 8,6 and 3 at the time and we should have prepared them more.

We were there in Dec. 09. Our waiter was spot on! My DD did not want to be bothered and the waiter called her the princess and left her alone. My DS on the other hand.....craved the attention. Needless to say, he was put on the wall for using the cell phone, was put on the wall for putting his elbows on the table, and was given a new name of Scooter. I got put on the wall for my son swapping out my pickle (I was told to eat my pickle or no dessert) and when I swapped back Lou from Morocco caught me and away to the wall I was sent with chants of "naughty, naughty, mommy" following me :) It was awesome. I'm hoping to get the same waiter this summer!
