We had dinner reservations at The Wave for 7:00. We arrived quite a bit early so we could take some pictures around The Contemporary Resort. When we checked in, we waited in a nice little lounge off to the side of the entrance for about ten minutes.

Because of our recent engagement, the waiter brought us two glasses of complimentary sparkling shiraz.

Appetizers: Blair ordered the avocado and citrus salad served with local greens and an orange vinaigrette.

I ordered the lump crab cake which is pan-seared and served with crispy papaya slaw and a balsamic glaze.

Entrees: Blair ordered the beef tenderloin served with celery root mash and seasonal vegetables.

I ordered the special for the night, which was a pork tenderloin with a cinnamon dry rub served with roasted fingerling potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Desserts: Blair ordered a slightly altered "decadent flavors" dessert. Hers had a chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce, zucchini-carrot cake with vanilla panna cotta, and a blueberry compote with yogurt gelato.

I also ordered "decadent flavors" but without the substitution. Mine came with a blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta, and chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce.

The Wave is new since our last visit. We loved the old Concourse Steakhouse and we were upset when we heard they were closing it. That being said, we know this wasn't a replacement for the Concourse Steakhouse so we went in with an open mind. We were very pleased with the meal from start to finish. The avocado citrus salad was "amazing" and "should be served with chicken on top as a meal" in her own words. It was possibly her favorite appetizer from the whole week. One other appetizer was very close so she can't quite decide. My crab cake was very good. It was one of the better crab cakes that I've ever had. It had lump crab in it and the crab cake wasn't all breading with a little bit of crab like most restaurant crab cakes are. The beef tenderloin was very good and Blair would order it again. The same can be said for my pork tenderloin. The desserts are THE reason to go to The Wave. There are nine choices of little mini desserts. You can choose one of the 3 pre-packaged dessert trios or you can mix and match to create your own trio. The chocolate mousse was wonderful, the blueberry compote was very fresh tasting and I really enjoyed the lemon cornbread. It was more like a lemon pound-cake than a cornbread. The zucchini-carrot cake was dry but it didn't ruin the dessert experience.

We enjoyed it and we definitely would return. We would like to try their lunch menu on our next trip. They seem to focus on serving seasonal items which means you're going to get fresh ingredients every time you eat there, and that is a good thing!

Next report: Yak & Yeti

Quick question about The Wave. I have a 12 year old and am afraid The Wave might be too stuffy and the food too fancy for her. Your thoughts/comments? Thanks!

Well, the restaurant definitely did not have a stuffy feel to it. We went straight from our day at the Magic Kingdom to the restaurant in our jeans and t-shirts. It definitely had a very casual feel to it. As for the food, I think it would depend on her tastes in food. I do know that the table next to us had several very young kids who seemed to enjoy themselves, but they were much younger than your daughter and I'm sure they ordered from a children's menu which your daughter may not be interested in doing. If you would consider your daughter to be a picky eater, then she may have some issues finding something that sounds good to her. If she is open to trying different things, then she may be up for it. And of course there is always the beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes if that is on the menu during your trip. I hope that this was at least somewhat helpful. With us not having children and both of us being open to try different foods, it's hard for me to give a good "educated" response to your question. If anyone else reading this thread has eaten at The Wave and has a more informed answer, please help us out! Good luck and let us know how you enjoy your visit if you do go.

Hi :) Congrats on the engagement! I'm loving the report so far, can't wait to read more!

Ok you sold me, your pics and review of the Wave has me convinced that DH and I need to try it in Oct! :thumbsup2

I figured the desserts would be the highlight of the meal but the salad and the pork dish look incredible!

I am really enjoying your review! Congratulations on your engagement!! What a great place to propose!

congrats on engagement...loving your reviews, and so glad you enjoyed The Wave...we loved, loved, loved it last year. Those desserts are so good (and so fun to have mini-tastes of such yummy tastes...love being able to mix & match, too. DH & I ended up with 6 different desserts in our 3 some, and each had a bite of all of them. That was great fun.)
