We had dinner reservations at Les Chefs de France for 6:00 pm. We ran a little late coming from Test Track, so we arrived at about 6:05. We waited about 10 minutes before our name was called. Not bad at all considering we weren't on time.
Appetizers: Blair ordered Assiette de fromages de France or French imported cheese plate for those of us who don't speak French.
I ordered Cassolette d'escargots de Bourgogne au beurre persille or casserole of escargots (snails) from Burgundy baked in parsley and garlic butter.
Entrees: Blair ordered Noix de Saint Jacques et gambas sautees Flan d'epinards, sauce a l'oseille or Sauteed scallops and black tiger shirmp served with lemon butter, vegetable and fresh herb sauce and black pearl rice.
I ordered Canard au miel, haricots vert et pommes de terre douce or Roasted breast of duck and leg confit, french green beans and sweet potato with a spicy honey sauce.
Desserts: Blair ordered a chocolate mousse tart with coconut ice cream, but she subbed vanilla ice cream instead. I couldn't find it on any of the menus, so no French translation.
I ordered Crepe a la pomme et cannelle, glace vanille, caramel jus de pommes or Crepes filled with cinnamon, apple, vanilla ice cream and apple caramel sauce.
Overall, it was good. Our biggest complaint was that the tables are on top of each other, but Disney has a lot of mouths to feed, so they tend to pack people in as much as possible. The cheese plate had brie, gruyere, goat and we think muenster. It also had a little tiny salad on the plate. The portions of each cheese were very generous. Because of their size, Blair enjoyed all of them and so did I. My escargots was good. It wasn't as good as the escargots that I had in Paris, but we were in Orlando and not Paris. Blair really enjoyed her shrimp and scallops, but the side dishes were uneventful. The rice and the veggies were sort of bland and tasteless. My duck was fantastic! The honey sauce was great and the duck was very tender and full of flavor. The green beans and the sweet potatoes were quite good, too! Blair didn't really enjoy the chocolate mousse tart, but my apple crepe was good. The apple caramel sauce was very good and the whole dish reminded me of warm apple pie, so it was good to me.
One cute story to share before I move on to the price breakdown. As I stated, the tables were very close to each other. However, the people next to us were quite nice and very friendly. It was a husband and wife, their daughter who was probably 5ish (we're terrible with guessing ages) and their newborn. We made conversation throughout our meal and if we had to be right on top of someone, we were glad that they were nice. Their daughter was very cute. Her parents had told her that if she had any questions, she could fee free to ask the server. So, she proceeded to ask how many waiters/waitresses worked in the restaurant and other cute questions. The server was very nice to the girl and did his best to answer everything she asked. At the end of the meal, the little girl had drawn a picture for the server and she asked me to hand it to him because they were leaving. The server actually walked up at that point and so I told her that she could give it to him. She handed it to him and gave him a little hug. The server smiled and thanked her. Her family left at that point, and we figured the server would leave the picture on the table for the bus boy, but he actually folded it up and placed it inside his pocket to keep. We like to think that he took it home and hung it on his refrigerator.
