5/12-5/26, 2007- LIVE from the first MED repo cruise! Now adding PICS! :)

Yes the seas are rocking!!! Server said the restaurants were empty for breakfast and n ot many out for lunch either. And had 3 CM's out from our rotation. Did alot of resting in the room today.

Ducky Williams talk was today and great as always! He did 29 drawings for the raffle. Many DIS'rs won! It was great. He will be doing another this week sometime

Tomorrow is the new show "On the Nose" should be fun. TOnight was Mike Super the magician. did not go and see him at all. Tomorrow we should be half way!! Having a half way party :)

No pictures tonight. It is a bit chilly out with the gale force winds. Still no connection in my room. But they keep working in my area. Maybe tomorrow I will as the workmen.

Night all!

Debbie

What are they reporting as actual wave heights? "Rocking" is very subjective. I had no issues with the motion at all until it hit 30 feet while we were chasing a hurricane.

They are 8-12 feet. With gale force winds across the bow. Seas are listed as "rough". My stateroom is also in the forward part of the ship so we are feeling it.

Thought we were the only ones having problems with it, until i talked with others especially the crew that had problems.

Eep- sorry to hear you guys are having a rocky trip! (Pardon the AWFUL pun!)

I hope it clears up quickly! I'm still so jealous of your trip!

Hi guys,
I have another update for days 3 and 4 coming soon.
I am so sorry if I made my first 2 days sound negative. They were really great, just a few bumps in the road. We are having a great time, just some rocky seas right now. I have met so many nice disers. There is not a day that goes by (sometimes several times a day) that there is not a cute little gift left for us at our door. Our son loves seeing if a present was left. I am so lucky to be with such nice and generous people. Even the general public on the ship is so friendly and nice.
I will post days 3 and 4 really soon, and some pics I was able to upload.
Timon I dont know how you did it, the pics take forever to load! LOL

Be back really soon to post. Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
Hi Debbie, you are right, Ducky was great today. We both really enjoyed him.

yikes! Sorry the seas are rough right now...hope it gets better. I feel for the people that are really sick from it, it must be awful knowing they have 4 more days ahead. :guilty:

Thx so much for all the updates..........there are many lurkers out here!! Sorry about the rockin', hopefully tomorrow will be better, in the meantime....batten down the hatchets!! Sorry I couldn't resist!:rotfl:

Michelle, Thanks for the update! Uploading photos wasn't bad for me, but then again I was uploading to my site, not photobucket or anything.
Looking forward to pics if you can get them up!!

The whole ship is being set up for wireless Internet connection.
They are in the Process of doing this...

Some decks work and some decks do not.
Debbie is on deck 5 / SPH and was not able to use her laptop in her stateroom.
YET
;)

Finally got ours up and going Pete. Deck 7..........
Yes. We got a verandah this time. Got a good deal at port.
The wireless in the room is great.

We are having a wonderful time. Sea has been a bit rough the last couple days, but it should get better. We have character breakfast today. One of my faves.

Got to get going. We've lost 3 hours so far. The laptop says 5:15, but the ship says 8:15.
Later.

There is also a Blog here, that you can follow the adventure..

Day 3: First Day at Sea: Monday, May 14, 2007
Palo
Formal night in Animator’s Palate (no light/color show tonight)
Golden Mickeys

Today was Palo brunch day! DH and I were scheduled for 10:30, so we pretty much slept in and took it easy. We had to set our clocks forward an hour last night (lucky west bounders) and will continue to do so for the next several nights. We were already at a disadvantage by being behind 2 hours even coming into Florida, so today we caught up on some sleep!

Our DS decided all of a sudden that he did NOT want to go to the kids clubs, but since we had brunch, DH pretty much made him go, and snuck out when he wasn’t paying attention. He came to brunch a little frazzled and said we would probably get a page to come and get him any minute, but thank goodness we didn’t. I knew once he went in there he would be fine.

Brunch was wonderful as always. We always seem to get Alex as our server, and we really like him. I do not fill up much on the buffet part (I am not a gourmet eater.) I like the pastries, and German Stolen bread, and berries and cream. And mostly what I come for is the pizzas and main courses. We split a pizza, so DH and I each got a piece of Italian sausage, and pepperoni pizza. I had the Chicken Parmigiana, and DH had the egg frittata. We were so stuffed we did not really have much dessert. Which in itself is pretty weird….I know, who says no to Palo brunch!!!

As soon as we got back from brunch, we took a loooonng nap. DH wanted to see one of the lecture series, but we just never made it there, as well as Mr. Toad’s Wild Race. L
We pretty much slept and took it easy again until time to get ready for dinner at about 5:00pm. But isn’t that what vacations are for? Relaxing? And we sure did!

On this cruise they are doing all the dining times the same. Early dining is all at 6:00 and late dining is all at 8:30. They still have the 3 different locations and rotations, just all start at the same time instead of staggered.

Which brings me to my biggest gripe of the cruise.
Tonight’s show was Golden Mickeys. I am used to having a matinee showing. I was upset to see that there wasn’t going to be one??? That forced everyone to crowd into the 2 night showings. Now I know that some of you may say as Disney probably did, “but the ship is not at capacity.” Well if you went to the late showing at 8:30 you never would have believed that. It was PACKED.
And for those of us that try and hit dinner at 6:00, then the family cabaret at 7:45 and then go to the main show at 8:30 only to find the theater completely packed, it is pretty much impossible. When there was a matinee, we did not have to worry about getting to a packed theater. We had already seen it in the day, and did not have to deal with the masses. And that is what I am all about.
Our servers also were not happy with tonight. There was major chaos in the galley (so they said), and our main server was complaining that he spent most of his time in there trying to get his orders, and he didn’t like being back there the whole time. He likes being out with the guests. Our assistant server was also saying how awful it was back there. They said they had new menus, new uniforms, new everything and was hoping it would be better and smooth out the next time. We had to get our desserts to go since it was getting so late. Appetizers and dinners came out just great, it was just the desserts that took a major slow down.

I ordered a mint watermelon chilled soup, with a mixed green salad with hearts of palm with honey orange dressing. For the main course I ordered a grilled t-bone streak that had a stewed tomato sauce and a twice baked potato. The steak was very tender and the potatoes were good. The menu was mainly seafood, and I hate seafood. I do not like steak either, but it was one of the only things that was not seafood. I am glad I ordered it though--very good. The chocolate dessert (forgot the formal name--something about a chocolate award to go with the Golden Mickeys) that we took to go, was very good. DH basically ordered the same thing I did, except dessert was a ricotta crème brulee, which he loved!

We saw the family cabaret show of John Charles after dinner, saw the Golden Mickeys and then saw the adult cabaret show of John Charles afterwards. We really enjoyed him. My DH especially likes his shows. I am still griping about Taylor Mason not being on our cruise, just kidding, the others are good too.

All in all I really do not want this to sound like an overly negative report, or even have a negative tone because each day has been very very fun. I feel incredibly blessed to even be here and besides a few little hiccups, it has been wonderful trip. I am just mentioning the things that I have noticed that has changed from our last 2 cruises both the good and the not so good. Everything else, the food, the service has been wonderful. We are really loving these days at sea. Today was pretty windy though, and the ship is pretty rocky right now….makes me nervous…Have you seen Poseidon? If you haven’t and are on the westbound…DON’T!!! It will freak you out. At least it did me. I keep thinking of it…..

Stay tuned: Day 4: Another day at sea….
We are planning to do the “whodunnit at Sea”, see Behind the Scenes with Don “Ducky” Williams, the Mickey 200, maybe the Yatzee tournament, and then see the magician Mike Super for the main show.

Day 4: Another day at sea!
Tuesday, May 15, 2007
All through the previous night we woke up to the banging of our bathroom doors, or the steamer trunk doors--sometimes LOUD banging. I cannot blame the waves completely since we did not have the doors shut all the way, but they were loud! I was feeling so freaked out all night, but did not know why….it wasn’t just the noises, it was the rough weather too, and just a weird feeling.
Well this morning, the captain announced that we had sailed through the Bermuda triangle during the night. DH said, “No wonder you were so freaked out…”
A lot of you on the boards have already heard about the rocky waves we have had today. The winds were really windy. We never stepped foot out on the decks today. We did from our own verandah, but not for long. It was windy and the waves looked pretty big. The captain said it is supposed to subside tomorrow….we shall see.

We slept in again, every night is an hour forward, my worst nightmare (lucky west bounders :p) so we slept in again. One of these sea days I WILL go up to see the sunrise. Rachel the cruise director said only 5 people showed up for the morning walk. It sounds like everyone else is having a hard time in the morning with the time changes like we are. I will succeed one morning.

We got up, took DS to the Oceaneer’s Club and went to the Desperate Shipmates, the whodunnit mystery. I love things like that. It was really cute, but seems to go on throughout the week.

We had thought we missed the special Princess tea in Lumiere’s (invitation only), but was relieved to find out it started at 3:00 and not 12:00 like I thought. We had turned in our RSVP pretty late the night before, but it said anytime on Monday to drop it off at a box outside of Mickey’s Mates.
Here are some pics from the Princess party:

We went to the buffet lunch at Parrot Cay. It was Asian night, so we were pretty happy. The make your own stir fry was really good!

We then went to the presentation of Don Ducky Williams in the Walt Disney Theater. He was really good, but alas, we did not win any of his sketches. L Since it went a little long, and took awhile to get out of there since there was so many people, we were freaked out to see the time was about 3:20pm. The party started at 3! Thank goodness, they had heard that some people were running late due to the presentation going late, so they let everyone in. DH went and got DS out of the kids clubs, and we had a great time seeing and taking pics with the princesses. DS is still ok with that. J

After some down time in the room, DH and I went and played in the Yatzee tournament. We love games. Unfortunately, luck was definitely not on my side that game. I probably had the lowest score, but DH came in second, but did not move on to the final round. I think the dice were biased.

We had to immediately head to dinner afterwards and boy was it a great menu. Right up my alley. The menus looked brand new to me!
We had the island chicken wings, and fresh green salad for appetizers. DH had the chilled cream of mango and papaya soup. He said he was really starting to love those chilled soups. I still prefer the hot soups. The cold soups taste too much like a dessert to me…J I told you I do not have gourmet tastes.
We both had the baby back ribs for the main course, with the spice island chicken for us to try (I love our server). The sauce was sooo good. It was a prickly pear bbq sauce and was really tasty!!! Yum yum yum!
All of a sudden, our server disappeared for awhile, and our assistant server had to take our dessert orders. We figured there must be a dessert slow down in the kitchen again, so we just took them and left. We feel bad for just up and leaving again, but we had a neat show to go to!

As we got to the theater at a little before 8:00 there were people already lined up outside of the doors…quite a long line actually. But we were still able to get great seats on the aisle in the center section 4th row behind 2 little girls. Since we figured Chase (DS) could see really good, DH went to go get him from the kids clubs.
Mike Super, was…..super! I love his humor, and he did great tricks too. DS was not really entertained, but we sure were. It was a great show.
As we were packing up the laptop after talking to the kids tonight, he passed by, and we told him we loved his show, and he was soo gracious. He kept thanking us for loving the show! LOL He asked our names, and was really a friendly approachable guy. Our DS asked about a LED pin/magnet on his shirt, and he gave it to him! That was soo nice!

And that is about it for today/tonight. Tonight we have to set forward our clocks another hour! (dang west bounders) and so I better head to bed.
And I have been writing my posts in a word document and then pasting it into the disboards to save valuable minutes (Thanks Timon/Cass, taught me everything I think I know LOL). I also try and message my kids while I post and do things online to conquer 2 birds with one stone.

OH! Two things that were interesting that I observed on this special cruise:
They did Flubber for the 3-4 year olds in the Oceaneer Club. I asked about that because I thought I had never seen that available to the younger group before, and the staff told me they only do that on special cruises. Cool, huh??
And I saw Jiminy Cricket available for pics in the atrium!!! We did not have DS with us (DRATS), and I already had my pic with him from Tokyo Disneyland. I was quite surprised and impressed though!

Coming up tomorrow:
Destination Lecture series: History of Pirates
On The Nose game show, I am really curious and excited about that one….
Tropicalifragilisticexpialidocious deck party at 9:15 pm
No family or adult cabaret show tomorrow.

The captain just came on at noon and said that there were 12 foot swells...I am looking out a window in preludes and they look really wavy to me, but not as much to freak me out like that one night. LOL

Hi fellow Disers!! :yay:
Rachel just came on and said that the afternoon deck party Mouse 20 is cancelled due to high winds and choppy seas. I think alot of activities are being changed due to weather, probably outside stuff.

Many thanks for your great reports and I am really envious of you all out there on the high seas and you seem to be having a great time.

Wonder what the vegetarian menu is like - hope it is good as do not eat meat or shell fish. We are on deck 7 so think I will invest in bringing the lap top to keep in touch at home.

Carry on enjoying yourselves

I always like live trip reports, but this one is the best ever!

Keep it coming!!

but I just wanted to thank EVERYONE for their reports, my DH and I are LOVING them! Thanks again and wishing you ALL a magical cruise.:grouphug:

Great trip reports, Michelle2! Having done the 7-day Eastern Carib in April, I can relate to a lot of your experiences (We had 20+ foot swells on the way to Castaway Cay! Wheeee! ). Keep 'em coming!

Hi all,

just checked the bridge report, waves are "very rough" at 13-20 feet.

we have 18,000 feet of water under us!:scared1:
and possible rain tonight.

It looks like we are going to have tonight!!!

Pool deck party was cancelled due to weather, but they put together other fun things to do inside.

Internet is SOOO slow, hopefully it will be better once we are closer to land.

Skype is blocked, so don't make plans on using it.

I'll write later,
Jennifer

Jennifer:

how does it compare to the last night of the Halloween cruise? We had 12 - 13 ft - this sounds much worse?

Thanks!

Wow, 20ft I think I'd turn off the Bridge report....lol. I'm the chicken who wont go out on the Casino ship if the waves are breaking 3-4...lol. This report is awesome guys thank you so much for all your effort in keeping up updated, I've got some friends onboard and it's almost like being there, well almost.

Can't wait for the next report. =o)
