$31 rental for a double stroller.

They will no longer be "the happiest place on earth" because now there will be so many more children who are VERY tired, VERY cranky, and VERY irritable since their parents can't afford to pay such a huge fee to rent a stroller!

Oh, and for all those who feel that they are not affected by this b/c they don't have children of stroller age....think of how many fewer people will fit on a bus when there are now twice as many strollers getting on (obviously no strollers in the seats, but can't stand in the aisle if it's full of strollers). Which means it will take more busses to transport everyone and their strollers at the end of the night (after Wishes  ). I can't imagine that this won't affect wait times at the bus stops.

I just e-mailed the following:

I'm writing to inform you of my shock and disbelief of the upcoming stroller rental increase effective April 6. I understand about inflation and realize it is a necessary fact of life. What I don't understand is why stroller rentals are going up 72% instead of the current 4% inflation rate of our country. In a time when the US is on the verge of a possibe recession, I would think it would be in the best interest of WDW to prevent loss of revenue as much as possilbe. A lot of people will not be renting but bringing their own. This will have a domino effect, creating bottlenecks on the monorail and Disney Transportation. Walt Disney has been quoted saying, "You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality." Keeping people away by consistently increasing prices at a rate far above inflation, Walt's dream of a reality for the Happiest Place on Earth, will become just a mere memory. We have stood by WDW as they have increased dining prices yet decreased portions and quality. We have stood by WDW as they have increased ticket prices. We have stood by WDW as they have increased room rates but we will not stand by for this outrageous stroller rental increase. My husband recently purchased AP's for Universal/IOA for our family, which really upset the Disney fan in me. However, due to the recent increases, it now looks like we will be spending more time there instead of on Disney property.

But, I also have taken my other children when they were 4 and 8 and 12 (and they were a lot smaller) and did not use a stroller cause if they cant walk with me, then I shouldn't be there. When they need a nap, it is just easier to leave or sit down and put them over my lap and let them sleep it off.

Those strollers are huge and I have seen kids that could push their parents around in those things-make 'em walk and wear them out. [/B]

Ok, got your flame-proof suit on?

If we(the stroller renting public) choose to rent a stroller for our kids, it is really none of your business how old they are. If we are at Disney for a short trip, then we won't go back to the hotel for a nap, and why should we have to, when we can just put our kids in a stroller? It may be easier for you to leave, and that is ok. Just don't think you can tell the rest of us what we should and shouldn't be doing with OUR kids!

Good point! Maybe we need to find whoever is in charge of the parks and let them watch the kids when they are tired and cranky.:thumbsup2

The increase is NOT a typo.

I have already called (and they confirmed the increase) and I have E-mailed Disney about this increase.

I mentioned things like:

1. It is cheaper to rent a car for a week than a stroller.
2. Loss revenue for Disney, more people will bring their own
3. Loss revenue becuase guests will leave the park early because they didn't rent and their children can't walk another step.
4. Congestion on the monorail and buses.
5. Renting a stroller is almost as much as a child one-day park admission.

Thanks for the link, I just sent off my email.

PLEASE do not turn this thread into an argument about who does and does not need strollers. Thank you!

We were going to rent a stroller in the park for the length of our stay. But now we are renting from A Baby's Best Friend. We are staying for 10 days and are renting a double jogging stroller for $116 including tax. It will be delivered to our resort's luggage room the day we arrive and picked up the day we leave. All we have to do is stop by the luggage room and pick it up then return it to the luggage rooms as we check out. It will be nice to have it for the late night walks back to our room from the monorail, boats and buses. And this will be cheaper than renting from Disney.

Check out their website. They have lots of things for babies and small children.

Wow, I still have 6 left over double stroller tickets from our trip in May.
Will they still honor them or do I have to pay the difference?

Yes they should. I had some left before and I used them on my next trip. That was before insane price increases though, so I am not 100% sure how they would work it.

Please, please, please everyone, send off your emails. This will affect us all. We've already seen the replys to this thread saying people are now going to bring strollers from home. The bus system is going to be a mess! Do not make the mistake in thinking this will only affect those with kids, "I feel for you, but I'm glad it's not my problem". My family alone, with 4 young boys, will now need to accomodate 2 double strollers on the busses. Otherwise, we could have squished into a few seats, having some of the kids on our laps when the busses are full. Well, not anymore.

yes, it will affect everyone. We always bring our Double from home anyway, as it is more comfy for the kids and we like to be able to bring it to DTD and other little shops. This increase is just bad news all around.

I don't think she's arguing. She's just clarifying her point. That's why I recommended buying one and then selling it, heck even giving it to another family, it's still cheaper even if you use it for 3 days only!

Even the point made by the other parent-maybe we should let them watch our cranky kids!-or the point of the strollers on the buses.
If they ran more buses, it would be better for everyone all around anyway!

As far as the cranky kid comment, I am pretty sure she was joking, but that's why it's hard for some parents. Some kids get cranky and it winds the rest up so maybe those parents should re-evaluate the day's game plan-I have a different parenting style, I chose to remove my cranky child so as not to disrupt someone else's good time. But, it is only my way.

I didn't take offense-it's her opinion. Which is why I think the Stroller Swap thread would be perfect for parents! Including myself-'cause lugging a stroller on the plane is hard when controlling a 40 lb. 2 year old!

I EVEN HAVE AN UMBRELLA STROLLER (with Pooh on it) that my son has outgrown and it is in great shape! I will be more than happy to bring it on the plane and give it to someone if they will be there the 20th-25th!!! Just PM me! I'll be at POR!

Are you pushing the stroller on the bus open? When I took my stroller, they made all of us close them, and I put mine under the seat or hung the handles over my arm if the bus was really crowded. Do they let you take them on open?

I must believe this is a typo
For, if not, I will have lost all faith in Disney...

If this is true, I see this as GREED, plain and simple GREED.
SHAME ON THEM :surfweb:

Must be a typo, too nasty to be real...:headache:

No- you can't take them on open, but most double strollers do not close up so compactly that you can fit them under a seat, nor are all umbrella-type that have handles that hang over your arm. Most are wide enough to take up at least one persons space. You must be referring to a single umbrella type stroller, quite a different story.

oh my that is just not right !!! i was planning on getting a double again but not for that insane price ! grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'd just get a stroller at a garage sale, wash it up and throw it on the plane...you can get a decent double for $30-40 this way around where we live and then you can just leave it there/toss it and not bring it back if you don't want to deal with it...It's so much cheaper and more comfortable for the kids in my opinion...

I no longer need to rent a stroller, but I just sent off my email to Disney AND I plan to call and also write an actual letter! I have also sent an email to my sister and a few other Disney friends to do the same. EVERYONE needs to do this. Disney needs to know how upset people are. They need to know there is a line and maybe they just crossed it.

This increase is beyond outrageous and response needs to go beyond those of us on the boards. Can you imagine the poor families who arrive at Disney and don't even know about the increase? Those who aren't going to be able to plan ahead and are going to have no choice but to pay these prices? I plan to tell everyone I know who has ever been to Disney or plans to go to Disney about this and get them to at least send email, whether they use strollers or not.

Wouldn't the cost to run more buses- the gas, maintenence, salary, etc. not justify the stroller price increase?
