$31 rental for a double stroller.

I want to start out by saying that I have a DD(5). We always bring our own stroller (except the time we forgot it and had to rent one). The past 6 months or so, she has really ridden in it, we still bring it into the park and park it somewhere in case we do need it.

We were looking at some pictures from Disney trips I made as a child in the 70's. I had a stroller when I was 2 on our first trip, but never saw own after that. Also, when you look at the background the children that are in the strollers are ALL very young (like under 2). I guess it was expected then that if you could walk...then you walk. Did we get tired? YES!! To this day I never remember being so beat as when I was a 5yo waiting for the tram at midnight after being in the park all day. I think I may have actually fell asleep standing up! But I lived, and so did my parents.

I think our country has become super lazy (me included). Maybe this is a way for Disney to phase out the strollers as a pp mentioned. They already are forcing us to eat healthier...maybe they want us to excercise too?!

Amoung many other things, you what I think is disgusting???

This info comes out 2 days before the increase??? No warning at all? Think of the families who are going now or next week that don't know about the increase, they planned and BUDGETED their trip for a year, maybe 2 or 3 and then they get there and find this huge difference? Alot of families are working on very tight budgets just to make the trip and now when they get there they
are blindsided by this kind of increase? After all their hard work and planning? And Disney basically saying "Too bad, guess you'll have to eat at Mc Donalds this trip."

wow thats crazy. My son is 4 and I will continue to bring my own stroller. I would never pay those prices.

We were going to rent a stroller in the park for the length of our stay. But now we are renting from A Baby's Best Friend. We are staying for 10 days and are renting a double jogging stroller for $116 including tax. It will be delivered to our resort's luggage room the day we arrive and picked up the day we leave. All we have to do is stop by the luggage room and pick it up then return it to the luggage rooms as we check out. It will be nice to have it for the late night walks back to our room from the monorail, boats and buses. And this will be cheaper than renting from Disney.

Check out their website. They have lots of things for babies and small children.

This is a great suggestion for those who have little ones. I've heard nothing but great things about them!

One question though, do you happen to know if they have options for kids over the 40/45 lb. weight limit? My 5 yr old is over that but I think there will be times that he'll need a stroller.

Thanks!

I am FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I realize Disney can do whatever they want and increase their price whenever they want BUT the cost for stroller rental is RIDICULOUS!! The double stroller rental cost is $31 dollars a day UP from $18 per day:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Really $13 per day is NECESSARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:headache: OK rant over!!!!:rotfl:

I just checked out the offical Disney site and it still says:
"For Guests who require a stroller rental for multiple days, we offer a Length of Stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment transaction for as many days of rental that you will need. Single-passenger strollers are available for $8.00* per day and double-passenger strollers** for $16.00 per day. Upon visiting a Theme Park, simply show your receipt at the stroller rental location and you will be expedited through the queue with little or no wait time."
So until I see the price change on the website I am going to try and not worry about it.
;)

Un-freaking-real  I can't believe they would raise the price THAT much...now I'm trying to figure out what to do. My son is 8 and very tall for his age so when he gets really tired (on our long park days) I rent him a double stroller (cause he's too tall for a single) so my aunt and cousin (5 yrs old) are going with us in Sept. and I told her we'd split the costs of the double stroller for them...NO WAY now. My 17 month old has her own stroller so I don't worry about that, but there's no strollers out there that will hold my boy, he weighs about 68 lbs.
I hope EVERYONE protests these prices...:sad2:

I went many times as a child too and we walked at a very young age, the difference is that back then it was ONE or maybe TWO days of just the MK. I too remember being exhausted and sleepwalking my way out of the park, LOL! However, now, generally it is 5, 6, or even more days of 4 different parks which require much more walking than just the MK. Epcot is MUCH larger than MK and while kids may be able to handle a full day of walking for the first day, by day 3 or 4 they are dragging!

Be careful! Someone will flame you! I kinda said the same thing-that was the best part of my trip last time in Sept.-I wore the kids out by making them walk-my 20 month old even pushed his stroller 1/2 the time.

But, still, strollers are an easier way to keep tabs on the kids when rude people push and run and don't care their is a kid around, but those WDW strollers are so HUGE! I took my Mc stroller (top of the line, too) and no one took it! The minute you discover it missing, you report it and it gets found, hopefully. I try to believe that for the most part, people are good. But, isn't this the price we pay when we choose to use WDW's convenience? (No flames please-I sent an email, too, because I am a mom and I sympathize)

If anyone had extra umbrella strollers and are no longer using them, start a donation site on the threads. I am sure that so many people will jump on it!!!

When our kids were smaller we always brought an umbrelkla stroller with us...folded up nice for bus/car transport and at the end of the trip we either gave it to another Disney family at our resort or left it with relatives who live in FLA and were visiting with us...

check out this link for a nice $25 stroller.....perfect for a week at the park!!

For those who planned to rent, why don't you just bring your own? We've done it the past 2 trips and didn't experience any major problems. Worst part is getting it through security at the airport.

We had a huge one that we couldn't fit on a bus. Luckily, we had a rental car last trip. We decided, save $500 on the rental car, and take $130 of that to buy a much more compact double stroller that will fit on the bus.

There are alot of people like me that have older kids -4,5,6 - who may still need strollers on long days and cannot fit in a normal stroller.

And, I do have a big beef with some very rude guests who think they own the buses with their huge strollers. Last year, this terribly rude man sat in a seat and leaned his double stroller against the 2 empty seats next to him. There were no seats left, leaving DD(4) to stand. This man saw and did nothing. Not wanting to start trouble, I said nothing and told her to hold onto me tightly. THank goodness, a nice family saw and the dad got up so DD could sit down. This happens all the time. Can you imagine the busses if everyone brings a stroller now, instead of renting? People not needing strollers should not be inconvenienced on the buses by people that do. This price increase will impact stroller-renters as well as non-stroller renters as well.

I think A Baby's Best Friend will be getting a lot of new customers. In case you didn't know, you can rent a stroller from them (single or double) for $58 - $85 a WEEK. They deliver the stroller to your resort and you leave it there at the end of your stay for them to pick up. I have used them before and their service is great! Yes, you still have to take it on the bus, but you wouldn't have to lug it on the plane and it is WAY cheaper than a Disney stroller (and it is a nicer stroller). Here's their site: http://www.abbf.com

ETA I always rent a car and bring my own stroller. It was never really an economic decision, we just like to have a car, but now it really seems like the best move money-wise! I can't believe you can rent a car for less than a stroller -- that's crazy!

THanks for this info -- if I can't get DD conditioned to at least 5 miles a day before we go, looks like we are back to baby days when we brought our own stroller and drove to the parks. Now I am rethinking staying on Disney property. The benefit of staying on-site is quickly diminishing. Just checked the website - nothing but a wagon for kids over 45 pounds. I'm not pulling a wagon through the park. DD is 45 pounds now. I imagine she will gain weight before December. CRAP!

Oh, and for all those who feel that they are not affected by this b/c they don't have children of stroller age....think of how many fewer people will fit on a bus when there are now twice as many strollers getting on (obviously no strollers in the seats, but can't stand in the aisle if it's full of strollers). Which means it will take more busses to transport everyone and their strollers at the end of the night (after Wishes  ). I can't imagine that this won't affect wait times at the bus stops.

ITA :headache:

next people will be mad because everyone will bring there own stroller and they will take up alot of space on the bus so as many people wont fit on the bus. People will have to wait in longer lines to get back to their resort. I can see it now.

I emailed Disney as well and I dont rent the strollers.

I am pretty sure you are not allowed to bring wagon's into the parks anyways, someone correct me if I am wrong.

You are not allowed to bring wagons, or anything for that matter that pulls behind you (i.e. rolling bags, backpacks, etc).

I saw several rolling things when I was there in March at Epcot. One day was sitting in front of China and emptying food out of it for her family.
I was like wow I didnt think you could do that anymore.

Wow that is an increase...
but i think disney is trying to cut down on the number of strollers...
and it sounds like its going to work

as a lot of people mentioned parents dont have strollers at home for these kids...
and i dont see the average tourist going out …. buying a stroller for a 5 to 8year old only to cart it to florida and then toss it later....I think they will try and make due
(lots of cranky kids this summer)

So in the end disney will make the big bucks as people are going to have to pay this ridiculous price or they will have slow down add a day to their vacation and move at their kids pace

I'm really sorry to say this, and I do have my flame suit on trust me, but this is really starting to make me kinda laugh and to be thankful I don't plan on taking anymore trips with the little guy until he's big enough to do 5 miles a day.

Everyone is mad because of the price going up, then they are mad because more strollers on the buses and longer wait times, they are angry because people will steal their strollers so they can't justify taking the $200+ stroller to the park.....

I have been in everyone's shoes, believe me. I have watched people put their strollers on the seat on the bus, and seeing a woman holding her baby, I asked the people to move their strollers, and I always give up my seat when it is me and my DH only. I don't run people over with the stroller I have, nor do I wait until the bus pulls up to start breaking down my stroller, and I try to have lots of patience with other people's children 'cause I know mine are not saints.

But, has anyone gone back to the beginning and read them again? Everyone cannot be pleased and WDW is a business that WILL make money, regardless of how many people complain. It's nice to vent, but until people become the solution, i.e.-bringing your own strollers and showing courtesy-like breaking them down before a bus comes, being patient in line for a bus to come-everyone else paid for a bus just like you did, remembering that others might not find your children's irritability "growing pains"-some people feel like they paid for a great time and that they shouldn't have to listen to anyone's children scream-face facts, I bet most of the people on this site want to go and tell some kids parents to get control of their children, and that everyone paid, just like you did, it is never going to be an easy solution for someone.

Please don't flame me-just pointing out that NOT EVERYONE CAN BE PLEASED! Common courtesy and basic economy get chucked out the window at WDW sometimes. WDW is only being a business-maybe people have ripped them off so many times that the god ones pay the price.

They might be doing that because stroller traffic creates so many headaches and a lot of people use them that don't need them

:duck:

I think you might be onto something. I think Disney might be trying to discourage stroller traffic.
