Can anyone tell me if part of a 2BR lockoff can be cancelled while maintaining the rest. In other words, if I book a lockoff and later decide that I only want a 1BR can I cancel the lockoff or cancel and rebook as a 1BR? Thanks.

You can cancel the lock-off then rebook a one bdrm, if it is available.
During the time between you cancelling the lock-off and booking the one bdrm, someone could jump in and book the lock-off, thereby making the one-bdrm be unavailable to book.

There have been intermittent reports on the DIS about being able to cancel one portion of the lock-off. Whether it was actually done as cancelling half, or was a regular cancel and re-book we'll probably never know. Traditionally, you have had to cancel the 2 bedroom reservation and re-book either a studio or one bedroom, and there are no guarantees any will become available after you cancel the lock-off.

Anyone have any luck with getting MS to help? Do they have the ability to cancel/hold?

I wouldn't count on it and I have been told several times that not all MS Advisors have the ability to hold inventory.

Thanks for the replies, I may give member services a call to see what they say but I'm not sure I should trust it even if they tell me I can. I'd hate to screw up my families room because we're trying to accommodate some that can't plan that far ahead. I may just book a studio and 1BR separately and eat the extra point cost so I can have the flexibility. If they do come, it would be nice to have the rooms connected.

They can NOT promise a connected 1 BR and Studio if you book that way. If you need them connected, you should book a lock off.

Depending on the resort, not all 1 bedrooms and studios connect. At BWV, about half are dedicated, not lockoffs.

It would be desirable, but I don't have to have them connected. We'll put in the request and if it works out great and if not oh well.

Excellent point, thank you. This is BLT, I'll have to look at the map and see how good my odds are. If we end up not connected it's not the end of the world.

It seems to me it depend on what MS answers the phone that day. I've had some go above and beyond to accommodate my needs and others that would/could not. Maybe they didn't have as much experience.I have read about people that were able to cancel a portion of their lock-off. It's risky but I would book the lock off. The right person at MS should be able to accommodate you. I don't see how they wouldn't? Bc they could then rent out the portion you cancel? Doesn't make any sense.

it really doesn't matter to Disney. The DVC rooms are essentially paid whether they are vacant or reserved. Points have no value to Disney corporate.

I would bank those points and use them in a future year taking up space that otherwise could have been rented for cash or by another owner. Not sure I can definitively say DVD wouldn't lose money if they allowed me to cancel and couldn't re rent the room. That said, they would definitely be able to rent a studio at BLT in December.

But they might rent it to someone with an already booked room at SSR, leaving the SSR room empty for December. Its a game of musical chairs and Disney doesn't want to leave any of the chairs empty if they can help it.
