I just read the following about the Yeti on Expedition Everest:

"A highlight of the attraction will be a giant animatronic snowman...."you've never seen something so big move so fast." says designer Joe Rohde.
The new yeti will be light-years ahead of Disney's existing snowman, which roars at riders on the Matterhorn Bobsleds, a ride that's been around since 1959."

I am so excited about this ride! Whoever gets to ride it during the preview, please be sure to give me all the details. I'm not going until july.

The website will be http://www.disneyeverest.com/. it will launch 1-16-06

I've heard also that the Yeti is supposed to be something special. On Modern Marvels on the History channel they did a special on WDW and had a small bit on EE. They said that the entire ride is basically 3 very large structures. 1 is the mountain, another is the actual rollercoaster, and the last is the Yeti. That alone got me all pumped. I too want all of the details from those first riders.

I'm really bummed in that I'm both a DVC member and AP holder, but my trip is going to be 2 weeks after the preview for DVC and AP. :sad1: And after this trip we may not be back for a couple of years.

I might have to pull a Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Vacation. So if you hear on CNN or in the Orlando Sentinel about a crazy park guest riding EE before it opens, you will know it is yours truly. :teeth: :rotfl2:

Wow! now I'm reading that the yeti is 25 foot tall! Disney claims it is one of the largest and most complex figures it has ever built. I've never been to DL. How big is the yeti on the Matternhorn?

Unfortunately, I have never been to DL, but from what I have seen it doesn't seem much bigger than a normal person. Maybe 8 ft tall, but again, I'm not sure. I'm sure someone on these boards would know though.

The "Yeti" on the Matterhornb is actually sort of short. It apears to be 4 - 5 feet tall. It may be taller than that but they way it is put into the caves and is slightly hunched over makes it look pretty small. There are actually a few of them in there and a few spots where only its eyes light up.

The Matterhorn Yeti is only the size of a person. Another note although the Matterhorn opened in 1959 the Yeti was not added until it was remodeled in 1978. So the Yeti it old but not that old.

I'm still trying to get over the 80ft drop!!!! I wish there were more details on the drop itself. Splash mountain is 50 ft at a 45 degree angle... i wonder if everest is a straight drop or 45 degrees....

We were talking to a CM who was standing outside of the ride telling people about it and she said that the only drop in the ride is the one you see outside, and to me it looks like it has a curve in it. Not so much straight down....hopefully :scared1:

No offense but this comment made me chuckle. Here in Ohio and a few other places we have coasters that drop over 400 ft at 90 degrees. That being said I am sooooo pumped to ride EE. Disney gives the extra "experience" on their rides that you get nowhere else!

I agree some of the best coasters every built have max. heights between 80-125 feet, not to diminish Top Thrill, which my husband adores. I am most excited as I know so little about the ride, most roller coasters you know every single detail about, before I ever ride it, Everest is such a mystery... makes it just that much more exciting.

BTW I have rode Matterhorn, its painful on the knees, and the Yeti is pretty small and doesn't do much. Can't bash it to much though Matterhorn was the first modern tubular steel coaster, thank's to it we can have coasters like Top Thrill, Kumba, and Everest.

The most terrifying coaster I've ever been on -- and this is coming from someone who has ridden pretty much everything in Orlando as well as Cedar Point ("Coaster Central" in Ohio)...was....

The 1927 vintage Coney Island Cyclone in Brooklyn, NY.. First drop (shown below) is only about 90 feet, but if you want plain vanilla straight, steep and horrifying, this beats anything else I've ever ridden.....

I'm from Ohio too. And you're right. Those coasters at Cedar Point havepretty high drops. :scared1: I don't think I can handle them like I used to. I'm looking forward to the EE though.

Just exactly where in that statement does it say 25 ft. tall?

They also mentioned that you would only see it for a split second on the show.

I chucked too!!
Yes, here is Ohio...... 80ft drop at 45 degrees is like riding the Dumbo ride. :rotfl2:
But I still love any coaster!! Doesn't matter how big the drop..... it's the "show" that matters!!
And the whole family can't wait for EE!! :cool1:

You aren't a panzy!!
My DH loves coasters but refuses to go on the tea cups because he can't handle the spinning!
We all have our limits!! :goodvibes
