Well, this past week has been weird. First, the good news and a question. My mom was able to book our intimate wedding for next year while I was away on holidays. Yeah! She asked if it would a problem if a few extra people showed up and the guy said that you can have a total of 22 people including the bride and groom with no additional charge, you just need to buy more champagne! I hadn't heard of this before, has anyone else?

Now the bad news. While I was in Mexico, not only did I have the worst chest cold ever, pink eye, and my fiance blew out his knee two weeks ago, so he was in pain, my parents called me on Thursday to tell me they had to put my 16 year old Golden Retriever to sleep a couple of hours earlier. Incase many of you don't have pets, I have had her since I was 5 and don't have many memories before her, so this was quite a blow for me and is like losing a sister. Right now I am just getting accustom to not having to step over her as I walk through the house. I thought I would let you guys know because you are always so supportive and I appreciate that. Hopefully things will get better soon and I can celebrate more that the wedding is getting closer!

I"M so sorry about your baby--I know exactly how you feel!!! I only recently stopped worrying about leaving my plate on the table within reach of my babies ever sccrounging mouth, and I moved out of my parents' house 5 years ago!!! I cringe every time they tell me she "isn't doing well" for one reason or another...just remember how much she loves you and how happy you made her time here!

I'm sorry about your loss. I am also an animal lover and to lose a pet is hard. Please know that the pain gets easier with time and the memories won't hurt as much.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your "sister" Golden...it is always so very sad to lose any member of the family!

There are lots of folks who understand how you are feeling and like dreams91 said...it does get easier with time.

so sorry about the loss of your furbaby...i had a similar situation with the dog i grew up with. she passed quietly one night...just went to sleep and didn't wake up a few months after i had moved out of mom and dad's house about 13 years ago...sending hugs your way to help get you through...

I also know how hard it is to lose a pet... but they are right, it will get better with time even though it doesn't seem that way right now... You are in my thoughts and prayers. :-)

Very sorry for you. I recently lost a pet myself so I completely understand how you are feeling. I hope that things get better for you!

Wow... 16 years is really old for a dog. You were lucky to have her for so long. Not that it eases the pain you are feeling right now.

A few years ago, I lost my beloved cat after 17 1/2 years. DH and I don't have any children, and I got her just as we began dating, so she was our baby. DH and I still cry to this day when we think of losing her. So, I can kinda say I know how you feel.

My thoughts are with you. Losing a pet can be just as painful as losing a human family member.
:sad1:

Thank you all for your kind words. They mean a lot. Right now, we are just remembering that it is about quality of life over quanitity. Also, about 3 1/2 years ago, they had diagnosed her with heart failure and gave her 6 months to live on a certain set of medications. Well, those meds basically reversed her heart condition to a normal, healthy heart, the vets even said that her heart was great. So, I look at it as though I got 3 more years than I should have with her and the average expectancy for a golden is 10-12 years and she more than beat that one! Once again, thank you everyone for your kind words. I've had my good days and bad days and am getting through it.

well way to go on the extra people for no charge, that's always a good thing.

i'm so sorry to hear about your dog! a few years ago we had to put my cat to sleep and i too had him since i was 5 and i couldn't remember how it was without him. it was tough and i still miss him, but it gets a little easier day by day ;)

I’m so sorry about the loss of your dog. Pets truly become family members, and it’s so hard to lose them.

I’m glad that you can enjoy planning your wedding without having to worry about the extra people. That is definitely good news.

Losing a pet is very much like losing a member of your family. We have a cat named Percy and my DFH says I talk about him like he's my child! I know I'll be crushed if anything ever happens to him. Please accept my deepest sympathies on your loss and know, if you believe in this sort of stuff, there is now another angel watching over you.
