2014 DL Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 11/14-11/16!!!

So I have a question about people planning to run with props - have you trained running with something? What creative suggestions would you have to someone who hasn't. I would like to have the staff/ scepter thing for loki but I know I can't carry it.

I did the Tink 1/2 w/ a hook as Capt. Hook and it wasn't bad. Granted there was a little bar inside to hold on to but it was okay. Didn't train w/ it, just ran w/it race morning.

If you want something light weight that won't be heavy or expensive, you could glue/tape together paper towel or toilet paper rolls and paint or color it in. Plus to doing that it that way is if it ends up being too much or bothersome you can just toss it and you won't worry about it. If you want to go w/ a Halloween-style prop, if you have a running belt or a spibelt you could always stick it in there if it gets too much race day.

Good luck w/ the skirt being in stock on time! Hopefully even if they don't have them online they'll have them at the expo. Are you going to do a sparkle visor or a regular visor? If it's a regular one, check runnerswarehouse.com. I got one on sale a few weeks back for WDW for $12.

As for my costume... I'm being a rebel and going disney themed instead of comic themed. :rotfl2: I'm going as the Matterhorn. I have a white shirt w/ the old bobsled sticker on front and the safety saying on the back. I'm working on bobsleds and a monorail to attach to my running belt and these cool Snowman eyes I found on etsy to attach to a white hat. Plus, I picked up white/silver sparkle material that my mom said she'd try to make me a sparkle skirt; best part is I can reuse that for WDW and SW in Jan. I'm not that into comic books so I figured this is the next best thing. Upside though, no one else will have the same costume. :rotfl: I'll post the pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip on the visor! Probably doing plain so I can use it on my normal runs too. Your costume sounds adorable and I love that you can reuse part for SW! Dont feel bad about not doing something superhero. As of now I don't think I'll even do a costume for SW. Most I'll do is find a cool SW shirt I guess.

I haven't run with props before. If I do run with a plastic Captain America shield I'll do a treadmill practice run with it. It has straps that go on your arm so Im hoping it wont bother me to much. But I'm fully prepared to ditch it on the course if it starts to bother me during the run. And if I make a cardboard one to attach to my waterbottle I'll also be totally willing to tear that one off and ditch it if it bothers me. So I guess my suggestion would maybe be to make a mini version of the scepter so its not giant and something you can at least handle for a few miles so you can have it for pics before the race and with characters while we're in the parks. And maybe just ditch it after the parks are done if its bothering you.

:cool1: Based on the corrals this looks like a smaller race than the DL half. I was looking at the course map the other day and it seems like this will have to stay a smaller race based on the current course. We run through the backstage DCA area in both the first and 12th mile (in opposite directions). They would have to make sure everyone is through the first mile area before the first place runners come through, otherwise it could be a bit of a mess. I heard some runners in the last corral of the DL half got stopped to let the first place runner through.

I'm getting excited for this race!

So excited to run my first Disney race!

Any prior Disney runners have an opinion of the ChEAR packages? Do they really provide better spectator vantage points?

Outside the tiny spectator spot on the corral map, the race map doesn't seem to identify spectator spots.

Thanks for the insight!

Personally, I think unless you want your family to see you running inside the parks, it's not really worth the Chear package. Outside of the parks and still close to the parks there are plenty of places to watch you.

Beginning of the race ~ along DL Dr b/w the DTD underpass and the PPH they can watch you. There'll also be places along the promenade b/w DCA and DL when we cross over b/w mile 1 & 2. That area is always really crowded which is great for us, but if they want to stand there, I would suggest getting there a little early so they can be right at the fence/rope. Also towards the beginning and the end of the race along Harbor, they can cheer you on.

At the end of the race, we leave the DCA back area and cross to the parking lot at PPH and they can see you at the crosswalk; it's the 1 b/w PPH and Katella. And the other place towards the finish is the service road that takes us to the finish line. If you're looking at the map, it's where we make the 90 degree angle turn up towards the top of the map. There's a walk way along the service road (it's the parking lot b/w PPH and the DLH/DTD) and an open space next to ESPNZone where you would leave DTD to go to the DLH. They can see you run by there and that's mile 13.

I agree with Kim! If you dont need them cheering for you in the parks then its really not worth it. And I dont know where you're staying but it looks like we will be running by some of the local hotels as well. We're staying at the Hojo this time so I'm just gonna have my mom and kids come out and cheer me on from there when I run by.

Yeah, they tease you some times. :goodvibes I'd check again tomorrow and it should be working.

As for the corrals, you're doing the 5k right? The program shows that there are 3 corrals, A-C and you're corralled based on your bib number and the corral letter will be on your bib. I'm guessing b/w 12-1500 per corral. There is the staging area in the DLH parking lot and if you want to do a bag drop, that's where you do it. And close to racetime, they'll open the corrals and you go to your assigned one. There's about 5 minutes in b/w each corral so you're not on top of everyone. Each corral is inside a temporary fence that lines the street and there's a rope at the very beginning where people line up. Once you're in your corral, you can line up anywhere, some like the very front, middle or back. They'll also be both lanes of one side of DL drive and you face the DTD underpass and the corrals back up towards the overpass on DL Dr next to the Mickey and friends lot.

thanks ya I cant seem to find anything lol, some ppl are saying they know there bid numbers and stuff now and im like wow I must be missing something.

Ok I got mine to download. However it has my State as CA not AZ. What can I do about this? Will it matter? Also where do I find what corral ill be in?

I got this
TIFFANY T. BARKER
PHX, CA
5k Bib: 38xx
Size: AM (whats AM mean?)

Also did any one else order a pin? When do they send the pins out or will it be in my packet I pick up?

The AM would be unisex shirt, medium size. Given my size for the half starts with a W, and DHs starts with a M. Not sure why they chose A for unisex, but I'm sure it made sense to someone.

Pins should be in your packet at packet pick up according to the event guide.
