2013 Destash- this is the year!

Well the good news is we got rid of TONS of stuff before my sister, her husband, and five kids came to visit.

The other good news (but bad news from a destashing perspective)...we're expecting! Working on a list of what is an absolute must have, and will try to keep the rest to a minimum!

Congradulations!!!!!

Unfortunatly in this day and age people have come to feel that they need a lot more stuff than they actually do. All of this excess can easily become clutter. Think really hard before you make a purchase and ask other parents what their experience has been. I work retail and I am quite often shocked by the items people put on their registry. Quite often multiples of items.

Thanks everyone! Yes, this is our first, and we are so excited. We really want to keep the must haves to a minimum- DH says "if we really need something later we aren't that far from a 24 hour Walmart."

Congratulations!!!! That's so exciting!!

I went through my pantry & fridge/freezer last weekend. Got rid of some stuff but mostly just organized it better. We had been talking about ripping out a wall of shelves w/the desk underneath for more storage. Now I don't know if we need to, I have empty shelves at the moment!

I also went back through my junk drawer & master closet. This weekend I'm tackling the desk area because it is such a dumping ground. Maybe I'll get really motivated and tackle the garage too. It is also a dumping place over the winter and needs to be re-organized.

I'm done teaching summer school now so I'll have more time this week. I had planned to tackle the basement this summer and it's currently all torn up due to water issues. ugh.

Congrats!!!

Well all my destashing efforts came to a screeching halt this past week since we moved!! We finished unloading the truck late last night and now our new house is FILLED to the brim with stuff! I'm going to have to get pretty vicious in order to keep the clutter to a minimum in this place so once everything in unpacked if things don't have a home then they may have to leave.

Hope everyone else is doing well! :)

Tomorrow is move day for us. Going to a better school district and shorter commute, but I will miss our home and community very much.

We have done really well with decluttering. I got through everything but my kids crafts stuff, so I'll do that in our new place.

Unfortunately, my in-laws have not done so well and we are buying their house. They have just left tons stuff for us... Some we want, a good amount we don't. Plus, some doesn't even belong to them (grandma's and brother's stuff). I'm giving them a month and then I'm destashing it. I have not worked so incredibly hard just to inherit other people's junk. Ugh!

Good luck everyone, and yay on the baby Mrsklamc!

Just checking in that we are humming along. While I was on a family visit DH got rid of several large items in our subdivision garage sale. This past week another Goodwill run was accomplished. DH also cleaned out the shed. I need to sort thru some garden supplies yet from that effort.

Joining late! DH and I got rid of a ton of stuff in February before we had our son (born in April). I thought we were doing pretty well--we had bags and bags of stuff that we donated to the Goodwill. But then we moved to MO two weeks ago and we couldn't even fit all of our stuff in the moving truck! The new baby furniture takes up a lot of room. Now we have a bedroom full of boxes. We have to move again in a year, so we want to sort through that stuff and get rid of as much of it as possible so that we don't have problems with the moving truck. I'm a bit of a packrat because I have a lot of nostalgia over stuff from my childhood, so it's probably a lot of those things that I'll have to part with, because DH didn't save a lot of his stuff. :sad2:

I'm gathering stuff now to donate. It's amazing how quickly things can accumulate. Things we "had" to have and did serve a purpose are no longer useful to us. But they will be to someone else! Nice to pass it on. :)

Some things are hard to let go -- things that hold good memories and were well loved. But when you look at available space, that's another story!

Joining late but I'm in for the rest of the year. DH cleaned the garage last month getting ready for a graduation party.
I just changed over our winter clothes to summer ones and have a big box waiting to go to Goodwill.
DS is leaving for college in September so my goal that month will be to de-clutter (and fumigate) his room.
I also want to go through all the stuff in our computer room. It's a good thing we don't need the desktop computer because we can't even sit at the desk.

I think I can manage all that by the end of this year. :-)

Yeah, I'm not planning to destash quickly either! We have until next July to really organize. I want to work on it for 1-2 hours each weekend. I work full time, I have to finish my dissertation this fall, and we have a new baby, so there's not a lot of time to clean, and I don't want to set us up for failure by trying to do it all at once.

I have Mount Donation in the living room right now. Someone is coming to pick it up Tuesday. Both kids & I have been working hard this summer. Hoping to get the bedroom & bathroom ship shape within the next few weeks.

Nothing huge...but I have been using up leftover paper products on our camping trips. We have done 3 music festivals in the last 3 weeks staying four days at a time. We used Easter one weekend, Thanksgiving, Halloween...saved me from buying anything since we have spent so much money lately and helped clean out a kitchen cabinet! I have also used up quite a few travel shampoos, soaps and such.

Oh, and I have pretty much refused to go to the store so we are eating from what we have in the pantry and freezer. When the fridge got down to just condiments in the door I gave it a good cleaning!

I haven't done too much lately but I did manage to get into my craft area. I went through 2 bins of cross stitch supplies, mostly Aida cloth. I was able to condense down to one bin. I gave away a bag full of the cloth and a handful of books. I honestly have not cross stitched to any great length in over 14 yrs. before children I use to be a midnight police dispatcher. Cross stitching was what kept me awake at night on those slow nights. Not sure if I will pick it up again but maybe I will. I have a few that I'd like to complete. My sister was generous to take the bag and bring to her church. She said the ladies there could use it.

Hoping to work on the kids rooms since they are home for the summer since I didn't get there this past school year. Otherwise I'll wait till they are back in school.

I did not get to the desk area but I did go through a ton of old pictures. I am making a photo book for my parent's 45th anniversary. We go to the beach every year together so I sorted & scanned pics from pre-digital days and finished the book last night. Whew.

Now I want to start working on scrapbooks for the kids, past Disney trips, etc. I have collected all the scrapbook stuff over the years but it was always such an overwhelming project. Now I have them sorted into each kid, family pics, vacations, etc. I think that will be my winter project for the next several years!

I am being forced to deal with our basement due to the wet carpet. I need to get past the sentimental nature of some toys and just donate or pitch stuff. Thankfully only a bookcase, some papers, and the carpet got ruined but we have to rip out all of the carpet. It's good, it was time to go through the basement since the kids' interest are much different than six years ago when we moved in.

I haven't been doing too much posting lately on my destashing but today I dropped off 3 big green garbage bags full of outgrown clothes and 1 big green garbage bag with 4 sets of twin sheets and twin comforters at Goodwill. We no longer have any twin beds in the house so we sure didn't need to have those cluttering up a closet.

Today I'm working on the Hallmark ornaments I'm going to post on ebay this weekend. So far I've got 9 ornaments ready to list. I'm going to keep plugging away until 5pm today with a couple of short breaks so I hope to have much more than that prepped to sell before I'm done.

My DD13 also said she was done with her American Girl stuff and put it all in my office which means my office looks like a disaster area.

I figure I'll be keeping Felicity who was her favorite plus a few of the outfits for her and then put everything else on ebay.
I don't want to sell Felicity and have my DD13 regret getting rid of her when she's an adult. I know I have a couple of things from when I was a little girl that I love having.

ok, I admit...I joined then promptly fell off the wagon.

However, last night I went through the girls bathroom, got rid of most everything unde the sink. And this past week I have sold $100 worth of clothes on Ebay...so I am slowly purging. I have also listed a bunch of baby items on craigslist...so hopefully they all go and I can make some extra $$ in the process.

Got a plastic rubbermaid tub of clothes from my little girls room to take to Once Upon a Child. Finally got rid of some of the things that she swears she likes, but are still hanging with tags on them.
