2013 Destash- this is the year!

Got rid of a large piece of furniture that was in our bedroom today, I am really glad to have it out and the room feels better already. I've done some smaller things around the house as well like books, art supplies, documents, etc. Very close to where I want to be with things. :)

I'm in!
In the last month I have:
-shredded 4 small garbage bags of old papers
-donated 6 small garbage bags of clothing to a local charity (they picked it up and left me a tag for tax purposes)
-given away a BUNCH of stuff on Freecycle

I feel soooo good. I have more to do but it's a good start!!

I have been doing this for the last 3 months or so on and off on a yard sale site on FB. I have made over $800 toward our DIsney fund and we are able to sneak a trip in this summer which would have not been possible without selling all our "junk"

I was so excited, this last weekend I sold all the kids outgrown clothes (about 12 LARGE garden trash bags full---3 kids and have never really sold much) to a lady opening a consignment shop for $260!!!!!

That put us over the top and we booked our August trip that day!:cool1:

Ok I haven't been on this thread much because I got a work at home job that I can do whenever I want at home on top of my full time job, so there hasn't been much time for destashing BUT-

I am trying to give away some stuff for FREE on craigslist and I am so frustrated that people act SO excited and then are flaky! Won't answer emails or show up or anything!

Anyway...I did make $25 selling a couple of small things on CL last weekend and plant to do more this weekend, and DH started cleaning out the garage! SO GREAT to get stuff out of the house!

Congrats on job! Now you can buy more stuff.... :rotfl2:

I have been putting "CURB ALERT" free stuff ads on Craigslist. If I put it on the curb, they will come and get it. EVERY SINGLE TIME. You do need to check once an hour (or whatever) just to be polite and then remove the ad when it's gone. :flower3:

Good luck - I'm REALLY moving along here. Have now turned both boy's old rooms into flowery, shabby, chic paradise. :lmao:

That is awesome! A built in reward for decluttering!

Here it is all. Let's all support each other in destashing our homes!
Best I've got this early on New Years morning 2013! :)

This has been a super busy month so haven't got much done. Actually I've really slacked of this year. After next week I will have two weeks to myself while dh is at work and dd at school. I'm also ready to get rid of my glider rocking chair and foot rest. Nice fake tree and some items I haven't had a chance to list.

Wow that's awesome! Have you ever sold on Craigslist? I'm wondering how the FB yard sale site is compared to CL? I have sold on CL, but some people just don't follow through, so you think it's sold and it's not.

Maybe you will inspire me to be a little more motivated since you were able to sell enough to use it for a trip! Have fun!

3 weeks from Monday our moving pods will be here, so we are in major decluttering mode. We have done tons of decluttering over the past several months and that has certainly helped, but it's amazing how much more stuff I keep finding.

This week I went through all of the closets one last time and got rid of anything and everything that we didn't want or that DS has outgrown since I last went through his closet and dresser a couple months ago. We also packed up a couple more boxes with clothes and shoes, so we now have a small amount of clothes left. Those are the clothes that we will wear until the move, and then packup in our suitcases when it's time to move. It feels so strange going from a full closet to only a very minimal amount of clothes, but it has made getting dressed so fast and simple ;)

I also went through our pantry again. We got rid of everything that is not going to be used before we moved. I had a ton of different tea, and with four weeks left, there is no way all of it will be used, and we also had hot chocolate, and since its 100 degrees here, it won't be used. So, just stuff like that. My pantry is looking pathetic, but at least I can easily see what is in there and plan meals around what I have, to try and use up what is in there before we move.

Our plan tonight it to go through the kitchen cabinets and drawers. We're going to box up anything that won't be used before we go and then start to really consolidate the number of storage containers we have, get rid of some of the kiddie plates and cups we have, and go through all the cooking utensils we have.

I have a few things on Craigslist that haven't sold over the past couple weeks, so if they don't move by mid-morning tomorrow, I'll move them to the free category and hopefully get the stuff gone. I then want to clean out/clean up and list our dressers, bed frame, bbq, and patio furniture on there and hopefully get those items gone (or at the very least in the garage so someone can come by and get them soon.) So, by the end of the day tomorrow, we should be down to a very minimal amount of furniture. Mattresses on the ground, a couch and chair, one tv stand, two tv's and a folding card table in the dining room (DH is leaving in a few days, so I need him to help get the stuff out before he leaves, otherwise we'd probably keep the furniture for another week or two, but it is what it is, so we'll just have a pretty bare house until DS and I go.)

I have but I have done WAY better on the FB page I found. It is a community group. People are held to meets and stuff because if not, the rules are they are kicked out of the FB group. Plus no annoying spam emails and stuff like CL.

I am amazed at how much I have sold! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!:cheer2:

I will have to try the FB group. CL is getting ridiculous how much people don't follow through.

This morning I have destashed a pressed penny, 2 shirts, 2 Disney pin buttons, several catalogs, a hand can opener and a strainer. :thumbsup2

Well, assuming she follows through, I sold a large item on craigslist that will hopefully be picked up tomorrow. I also have a large box ready to go to goodwill, so yay!

As for the pt job ~ unfortunately that goes to fertility stuff, but the good thing is that it's not for more 'stuff' stuff.

We had a garage sale over the weekend and got rid of a lot of stuff. What did not sell my husband is dropping off today for donation to Volunteers of America. We didn't make too much money, only about $150 but that is ok because we got rid of a lot of stuff including the kids trampoline that they outgrew. Somebody paid me $10 for it plus they hauled it away so I am good with that.

The good news is I got DH to work with me on our bedroom. I bought this house a year ago, then a few months later DH came home from a deployment so our room became the dumping ground for everything that I couldn't find a home for. I got rid of a dog bed that the puppy ripped and I thought I could repair, but couldn't. A lot of artwork that the kids sent DH on his deployment. He thought he should keep all of it, but I convinced him to pick a few favorites and toss the rest. We got all of his paperwork condensed to one box. And we learned that when he's deployed I need to send him consumable things, nothing for him to bring back home!! Our bedroom looks so nice and peaceful now, I'm going to start looking for something nice to decorate the walls with.

The bad news, we were hoping to declutter a hot tub out of our deck and we had alot of interest on craigslist, however because they actually built the deck around the hot tub it's too hard to get out so it looks like we're going to have to actually cut it up and throw it away which is a shame because it still works great. I guess we'll probably just keep it, but I don't want to.

We had a super productive weekend. I'm exhausted, but we got so much done!

We went through the entire kitchen, through every drawer and cabinet. We got everything packed that we could pack, and then made a throw out bag and a donate bag. Right now, I only have the absolute bare minimum of stuff I'll need for the next 3 weeks.

I also went through the bathrooms again and threw out stuff that won't be used. We had so many half used bottles of lotions, different kinds of face washes and my son had over 20 different chapsticks. So we got that all consolidated down to what we'll need for the next 3 weeks, and threw everything else out.

We had a couple old box TVs and bookcases on craigslist that didn't sell, so I moved them over to the free section yesterday, and put them out in the driveway. Within an hour, everything was gone. And then DH took our donate bags to the donate bin nearest our house, so that stuff is gone as well.

We then moved our furniture that we're selling to the garage and put that on Craigslist. We sold a few things and didn't have to deal with flakes, which is always a huge plus. We sold our garage fridge, our bed frame and one dresser and DS dresser. I have someone who is supposed to come for DS bunk bed this afternoon and someone coming for our bbq this evening, so hopefully that works out. It is really starting to get bare in here, which is both sad and exciting at the same time.

Totally redid the playroom today. Got rid of a couple of large things, and a lot of small things. It feels much better in there now.

Is everyone getting ready for summer?

I plan to take a big load to Goodwill this weekend. DD13 collected 4 bags of outgrown clothes and they have been sitting in my room, taking up space. DD19 just went through her dresser after returning from college and gave me a laundry basket full of stuff too. Since I have not yet tried to consign them, I think I will just donate and get them out of here. There are also a few household odds and ends that I can box up and take.

The kids don't know it yet but they are going to do room clean outs this weekend. DD19 cleaned her last week but the younger two need to straighten things up. It's mostly clothes that need to be put away.

I need to clean up our bedroom and hopefully the garage as well. I'm doing the regular cleaning today so I can focus on decluttering this weekend.

I don't want to work inside this weekend...but we will. Our garden has been planted, except for the new plants DH just brought home from Lowes. I asked for a squash plant, he got 8 ! I don't think he remembers how they produce, but oh well, we can freeze and save money through the winter on vegetables.

We were having tile work done on the house. When we moved in, the grout was coming out so the property manager put in the work order. They then found that the tile mortar wasn't thick enough or the right type..anyway, had to bring it all up and start over. I fill bad for the owners because the cost to redo it probably is high, but this was the better option then the cheapy repair being 6 months tops. Sometimes it's best to skip the DIY and get a professional.

Now that's it's finished, we have to get the dust off of EVERYTHING. The contractors did a great job cleaning up, but you just can't help how it travelled. And the grads completed school this week...Next week all the family and everyone is coming in the for the celebration.

DH and kids will organize the shed and complete the garage. I think we are almost finished with the unneeded stuff. :rolleyes1 But I doubt that is true.

Decluttered a couple more pieces of furniture yesterday, a mismatched nightstand and a coffee table. Will be getting rid of my big entertainment center as soon as I find a replacement that is small and more table-like. We are leaving for a beach vacation this summer and I would love to leave my home nice and stream-lined. Here's hoping!
