About that BC "secret entrance." Looks like a key card is required for entry. Will a YC card work too?

Four days to go. Woohoo!

Can any of the BC regulars tell me which shopping mall/outlet stores is nearest to BC - we would want to take a taxi both ways.

We just want a couple of hours shopping in 'real USA' which we have never done in previous trips to WDW.

Not sure if I should ask this here or on the Concierge FAQ, you guys are always more chatty anyhow so I know someone here will know! ... :thumbsup2

I'm having the gracious and extremely helpful IPO help with a little in-room surprise (just some knick-knacks from the Marketplace and I'll be doing a little covert decorating) ... anyway, they've been SO helpful I'd like to give them a small "thank you" for their kindness and willingness to help me out.

Now, here's where I get confused, the names of the folks I've been dealing with out of the IPO office aren't names I recognize from staying at BC CL last year. How would I make sure the thank-you gift made it to them? I'd happily bring another little gift for the CL staff to share (because they rock too, obviously) ... but how can I make sure the one is given to the IPO staff?

If that makes a lick of sense. :confused3 Thanks YC/BC experts...

Just booked YC CL for July 25th - Aug. 4th 2013. This after just being home from YC 4 weeks ago. You can add me to the list.

Does anyone know why they changed the CL rooms that accommodate 5 to only standard? So no chance of a water view? Seems strange. Would love to know if anyone could answer this.

Also, I know they are working on HH. But does anyone know exactly what they are doing? Making it bigger, changing the building?

Thanks everyone.

They have the Prime and Premium Outlets. They are both realitively close. Plus the Mall at Millenia is a great mall with high end stores. We stayed at YC and was about a 20 drive to the Mall. That is the furthest away. They also have the Florida Mall off of Sandlake Road. The outlets were super busy and parking was an issue but with a taxi won't be. We love the shopping there.

We're 2 months away from our YC visit. I've been a bit lax in following along and reading the posts, so I'm a bit concerned.

I know that HH will be closed while we are there. I was thinking not a big deal for us because I figured we didn't plan on eating there anyway, but should we be concerned for any other reason? (Not drinkers either, so that's not a problem.) Will there be some massive construction that could interfere with enjoyment of SAB or something?

And the gym is now in the Solarium. I thought we might want to visit the Solarium, but as much as I might say I was going to use the gym, the reality is, I probably wouldn't have used it. So is there any other reason I should really be concerned?

Is there any other construction / refurbs that are going to be taking place at the end of Oct?

In the past I would send (or bring) two items of the same thing. One would be addressed or labeled CL staff and the other IPO staff. They were always given to the appropriate CMs. They are different cast members and are located in different areas.

It's great that you want to recognize their helpfulness. A letter or email about an individual goes a long way too. It goes in their personnel file.

There is a key reader there, but I have never heard that you need your keys to get in. I don't know if it is locked at some point in the evenings or when that is.

Also don't know if the new RFID system has had any impact on whether that door is locked with key access required.

But I am not aware of any issues.

Hi BC experts! I just read that Hurricane Hanna's will be closed during our stay. Any word on where we could get food/drinks for the pool? Will there be a temporary bar set up somewhere? Thanks for any insight!

Ah, excellent! Thanks so much. Just wanted to make sure it gets to the right folks. Thanks for the tip on the email/letter, I'll be sure to commend the IPO staff when we get back -- they've been a tremendous help so far. :goodvibes

Just back from a week at YC/Club Level.

Fifth stay at the resort, with about 18 stays at deluxe Disney resorts past 12 years or so.

Have to say, thought YC is looking worn, even compared to our stay there three years ago. The carpets in the lobby, especially the center one, and the one closet to the reservations desk are really dirtly and worn looking and really are in need of replacement. The wood work around the resort is really banged up (not the distressed look previously done to give that nautical look), but just dents and dings everywhere. The downstain lobby ladies room is really worn looking. The brass elevator doors are a mess, with scratches and dents, and are just dirty looking. The up and down floor arrows above each door are all broken, or missing.

The club level is fine, although the food selections were really bad. I've stayed at other club levels in Disney, but the yc really didn't compare to those---SAME thing every day--oatmeal and hard boiled eggs. First, who really wants oatmeal in the summer. The other selections, breaklast pastries and breads and cereals where fine. But at the other resorts there where subtle changes in the items. Appetizers were fine, though skimpy and the same with desserts--very skimpy. I know that there is a huge issue with folks in the past using the club level food as a meal. But the choices were meager and not very creative. Wine and drink selections were good.

Staff at the YC is very good both downstairs and at theclub level. As was the staff in the regattta room. We were in a room very close to the club room---don't stay on one of those rooms very noisy with traffic in and out of the club room.

As an aside, I have say it still amazes me how people act while on vacation. First there was this family that basically stripped from their bathing clothes to regular clothes just outside the club room. I think their room wasn't ready or something. This while the wife remained in the lone bathroom outside the club level room by herself for at least 15 minutes. Then there were the kids that were left by themselves in the room next to ours while mom and dad enjoyed cocktails in the club room. They were screaming, jumping off the beds, slamming the doors to the closets as the played hide and seek. Are parents unconscious or something. Finally had to tell the concierge desk, who fixed the matter promptly. Hate to be a meanie, but people look after your kids.

Ok so thats all. Staff great at hotel, but property is looking a bit worn in my opinion.

I'm sorry I'm even bringing this up- but is it a regular problem that the lifeguards change the pool rules every time they switch spots? I know it may be an odd question but we had an extremely frustrating situation come up this morning.
My 3 year old wanted to go on the big slide. I told him he can't go because I wasn't going. The lifeguard then told him that of course he could... great. So I run over, watch him go up the stairs and wait at the bottom of the slide for him to get down. Repeat about 10 times. This is where it got bad. He started saying how he wants me to catch him. Of course, you can't wait in the white part at the end of the slide, which I know. I say this and the new lifeguard tells me to go ahead and stand there- right in front of him! Now I have a three year old who "knows the rules" and I'm the jerk if I don't do it. So I watch him run over to the stairs and I get down in the water (he was the only one up there). He doesn't show up. Another minute passes. Then a new lifeguard takes that spot and yells at me to get out of the water. So I hop out and start going to the slide to figure out what's going on.
Now I can overhear the lifeguards at the top of the slide talking about how you can't let a kid that small go up alone (like I said in the first place!) and discussing with themselves for a minute how it's not safe with the tone that comes across as obviously I am a crappy mom. Then I get a talk about how he can't be alone and it's not just them but other guests are worried that I was letting him hang out on the beach alone... except I've been watching him run directly to the slide.
I was actually angry and upset enough that I was crying. I told him he couldn't go and they told him right in front of me that he could, then I did what the lifeguard told me to do and got yelled at for doing it, then I got to hear them insult my parenting and lecture me for doing exactly what they told us to do. It put a big damper on a chunk of my afternoon because they said a few things they thought I couldn't hear (ended with "oh, is that HER?") and once they knew I was upset enough I was crying nobody even tried to apologize or say anything to me they just acted like I wasn't there. It was actually really depressing. Only time I've been at Disney world really wishing I was home.

Is it kind of just me on this one? Are they mean to other people or am I just that lucky? Most of that can be brushed off as just misunderstandings, but I'm still upset by the part where my parenting was being judged because I let my child do what they told him he could. I understand that they are trying to be accommodating and help him have fun- but why, when a parent says "you can't go because you're too small" would you say "oh, no, you should go!" to the child?!? I know they are training new people this week, but could they have put me in a more awkward position? I wish I could tell you I was making it up.

Other than that we've loved the pool, I'm just making my husband watch the kids because I'm too sensitive to play around people who I feel like pick on me. We've been sad the wind has gotten in the way of campfires, but that happens.

I had something similar happen at TL when my DD was 5. I told her she could not go down the slide on her tummy the lifeguard at the top said she could. So she do so multiple times, then a new lifeguard took over. He YELLED at my DD that she couldn't slide on her tummy. I do mean yelled, I was at the bottom of the slide waiting & I heard him. She's now almost 10yrs old & she STILL talks about the mean man at Disney TL that yelled at her!:scared:

Based on what I have heard so far-

There is a hot dog cart and possibly a grab and go set up (arcade?) for some other sandwiches and food items. The Pool Gifts area will be set up as a bar for drinks and there will be waitress service as well.

As soon as I get definitive reports from people who are there and can verify what is being offered, and when, I will post it here and on Page 1.

If someone who is there now or is going soon could snap a few pictures of any signage/menu/food stations, I would appreciate it!!!

You can post the pictures here, or email them to me at beachclubdee@yahoo.com

Many thanks!!!

Dee

thanks I'll have a look at their websites. Do you know by any chance how easy it is to get a taxi from a shopping mall in Orlando back to a resort or would we need to back - sorry for the idiot question but we truly have no idea:confused3

So we're booked in a BC GV room 9/8-15 (NOT Club Level). I was wanting to do something in the room for the kids (something pirate related for DS and just some Halloween fun goodies for all) and looked at Disney Florist, but they're so darn expensive and don't seem to be as flexible with their gift packages anymore...? SO, I was wondering what was available there at the BC and who I would talk to about possibly getting something set up (since I don't have access to the CL IPO).

I just used this entrance last week ...

The doorway does have a RFID 'lock' on it. So, you do need a key to get that door to open - all times of the day. I can't speak as to whether a YC card will work - I had a BC card.

I have called both the BC and YC and no one seems to know anything about the closing. I inquired about cocktails by the pool and was transferred to a dead line. We will be at the BC next week and the YC in Oct. I hope they have some answers soon.

What all are you having them do for your in-room surprise? Are you planning it for the day you arrive or the day you go to MNSSHP? I'm trying to figure something out myself. Of course I'm not on CL so I don't know how willing they'd be to do something similar for me...?

11 more days!!
