2011 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ, Part II

The last time I was at Disney without kids was before our three boys were born! So if you asked me, I'd be talking about the mid-90's and sending you over to the old Pleasure Island!

But there are several things in the YC/BC area that my parents really enjoyed during their just-adults trip last year and their alone-time breaks while traveling with our family this year:

1) As Mickey T and Katesdad mentioned, there are so many great dining opportunities! We take our boys to signatures all the time and we love so many of them, but I know it would be a different experience with just adults. The only place (other than V&A) that we probably won't take the boys until they are all older is Bistro de Paris. My parents and my aunt and uncle love this place. They had a 7:30pm ADR during food and wine last year and spent over three hours there. They left way after the park closed and they said it was amazing. They didn't feel rushed in the least and they literally had the park to themselves on the way out.

2) World Showcase. My parents walk over multiple times (for even an hour or so) during their trips - to shop, to grab a beer, to get a snack. If you have park hoppers, it's really convenient. Again, we do this with the kids, but at a far different pace than my parents on their own! (And of course, we always stop at Nemo, Test Track, etc. along the way.) The grey goose slushie in France is one of my favorite drinks ever, so I highly recommend a stop a the kiosk in France. And I love the pecan bar at Karamell Kuche in France - another great spot!

3) The path around Crescent Lake. We also do this with the kids, but once again, at a different pace. It's a great walk and it's one of the things we love about the Epcot resort area - so many different resorts, shops, restaurants, lobbies, etc.

Again, I'm no recent expert on this issue, but hope this helps a little!

Hello, All! I've introduced myself and as a BC newbie, just a couple questions:

1. We have a GV room...should I request anything? I'm sort of up for anything!

2. I've read most of this thread...but any advice? Any thing at the resort that I shouldn't miss?

I can't wait. I can't believe we're staying here or that I'll be able to walk to EPCOT! :woohoo:

Yes I know, probably a really lame question, but I don't know the answer(s), so here goes:

What would you recommend we not miss (2 adults) while staying at the YC. No kids, and we are really lost. First time without characters.......:lmao:

DF and I don't have kids yet, so all our trips are adult-only trips :)
We really enjoy taking the trip at a slow pace. The resort area is so pretty - it's nice to walk around early morning or later in the evening .. sit and overlook the lake. We love taking full advantage of dining options (some of our favs: Flying Fish, Citricos, Rose and Crown). Also, the quiet pool at YC is great! It's very quiet and it has a hot tub! I would also suggest JellyRolls - it's so much fun and the piano players are amazingly talented!

I would suggest the around the world on a segway tour at EPCOT, Flying Fish, Jellyrolls, Ride Surrey Bikes. I even would suggest the character breakfast at cape may cafe. I find it to be less chaotic than most character breakfasts.

Just got home tonight. What a crazy week. Picture this: an eight month pregnant school teacher and her old mom that has radiation poisoning and can barely move her arms ... the two of us trying to pack up and close down the classroom ... moving her desk, bookcases, all the student desks and stacking all the chairs, etc. Not pretty but we got it done. Four days into the trip and I got a sinus infection too so the good old Take Care Clinic fixed me up with antiobiotics which I needed anyway because the blistering and sores had started to get infected.

The kids were so happy to see me and we had a few really good days before school was done and the real work started. Anyway, got it all done and the best part of the whole trip was finding a great day care center. Jeanne and I were super impressed and feel Peanut will be well cared for when school starts up in late August. And she surprised me by taking me to a 3D sonogram. WOW is all I can say. She still doesn't want to know the sex but I think I know because I peeked when the tech told us not to look. I didn't tell her I peeked either.

Radiation starts up again tomorrow and I think it's only 5 or 6 more treatments and then I'm done. While away for a week, the "condition" got worse but they said that would happen. So, once I finish up with it next week, by the time Bob and I are ready to go Jeanne's on 7/10 for Peanut's scheduled C-section arrival on 7/11, according to the doctor, it should just start getting better.

I CAN'T WAIT TO BE ABLE TO GET IN THE SUN AGAIN AND GET A CRUISE SCHEDULED!!!!

I'll be back to work on Sunday and Monday. Hope to see lots of you then!!!

Well you'll be happy to know that I talked it over with Richard and Vic and They think it's fine that I take over for you next weekend. It seems all there is to that greeter job is hanging with the bell hops and gabbing about this that and the other thing. I. figure I can start a new trend by hiding in the potted plants near the doors and then jumping out and offering people a noodle when they least expect it, like when they are checking out.

Don’t worry, I've got this "Greeter" thing covered. You take it easy and old Marlton Mom will work the door while you put your feet up and relax!

Welcome back....We missed you.:flower3:

You know how we all have those 'times of our lives' that we remember. This is definitely one of your times. Try to relax, heal and get ready for Peanut!

Teena,

So glad your back. Seems like you didn't exactly "take it easy", but I would be the same way you are. Can't just sit around when I'm getting to spend time with DD.

Finding a daycare center that makes her comfortable while at work is HUGE!! Glad you were there to help her with that decision.

Hope you get to feeling rested soon!!

I got my Magical Express tags yesterday :cool1:

Only 20 more days to go!!! I am almost packed!!!

Welcome Home Teena!

Sorry to hear you were not feeling well during your visit to DD's. Sounds like you and your DD had your work cut out for you closing down the classroom.

How exciting it must have been to see that 3D Sonogram! It will not be long now at all before you are holding that lil babe in your arms

I know it must have helped your DD a lot to have you there to help choose a daycare for the baby.

Now the countdown to July 11! Those last few treatment will be over before you know it.

Welcome back Teena! We missed you on here!

I'm glad you had a great visit but sorry about your sinus infection! Those are the worst!! I hope you are feeling better!

You will like this one. I was looking at BC pics online (big surprise) at home and there was one pic I saw that had you in the background. I called my wife over and said, "Look there, that's my friend Teena who I told you about!". She looked at the pic and said, "She is one of those people who you can tell are really nice just by looking at them! I can see what you mean."

I thought you would appreciate that, especially coming from a Bostonian. We don't think that way about many people up here in this neck of the woods!

Jay

P.S. I loved that you peeked at the sonogram!!

Hi, Teena! From one Tina to another, I wanted to just introduce myself. Sorry that you're going through so much, but congratulations on your impending grandbaby. And I'm a teacher, too, so I can appreciate the work at the end of the year. Its an exhausting time for teachers for so many reasons, Makes me look forward to our trip to the BC in July all the more!

Teena - welcome back!!!!
Can't wait until you are feeling all better.
It's hard to believe that the baby is almost here - my sister sneaked a peek at my ultrasound (before they were done routinely) and she told me afterwards that she knew it was a boy from peeking. She said she didn't have the heart to tell me since I was holding out hope that it was a girl. He was my third boy in a row. Of course as soon as I saw him I couldn't imagine why I ever wanted a girl!

We'll be leaving in less than four weeks. I'll be loading up on tastycakes soon!

Ahhhhh, thanks!!!
I'm really sorry I won't get to meet your wife the next trip!

I know, I'm so excited about the 3D sonogram. It's hard keeping it quiet. I told Bob the second I saw him at the airport but no one else. Bob and I were hugging and jumping up and down and he kept saying, "Are you sure?" With that 3D thing, it was pretty clear ... it looked like Peanut was right next to me ... you could see "it's" hair, the wrinkles, ... it was amazing. It's Jeanne's wishes not to know so I have to keep it quiet. She doesn't even know I peeked. Thank goodness she doesn't come on the Disboards!!! But now I can go out and buy the perfect Disney outfit for "Peanut" to come home from the hospital in!

You are so right. Although I have a preference and so does Bob, once you see the baby, you couldn't care less what the sex is.

It was nice telling Jeanne, "see you in about 3-1/2 weeks" when I left. It was sort of sad too on our last night together. It hit me that from now on, it's not just the two of us, it will be the three of us all the time. However, just like my Mom and I did, Jeanne and I will be taking "mom/daughter" one week summer vacations every year. Just the two of us!!! Next July we have reservations at a dude ranch in Colorado for a week. We actually had the reservation for this July (July 10th) and that went out the window when she announced Peanut was coming.

Welcome back, Teena! I sure did miss seeing you last week -- thought about you each time we passed through the lobby.....

We ust returned from a CR/BCV split stay and it was FABULOUS!! We have stayed BC CL on a previous trip, but this was our first stay in the Villas or any villa for that matter. We really liked it a lot. We were in a one bedroom on the 4th floor, villa 458. It was a great location, our villa was in fine condition, and we'd definitely request this villa if staying at BCV again.

We enjoyed all the resort has to offer! Cape May, Beaches and Cream, Stormalong Bay, Sandcastle Club for our two girls (11yo and 7yo), Villa pool and jacuzzi, Hurricane Hannas, and that easy, easy walk to EPCOT!!

I am not a big fan of the Marketplace, mostly due to the funky smell from those flatbread ovens (I think) but we did order and buy from there. I think they do the best they can with what they have, but it was hard to go from the wonderful Contempo Cafe at CR to the Market at BC, kwim?

Here is a meal tip: One time we hoofed it over to England for some Fish & Chips to go and brought four boxes of them back to eat in our chairs at Stormalong. It really wasn't that far of a walk. So, for something different, I would recommend doing that much in the same way many walk over to the Boardwalk area for something to eat. Someone stopped us and asked us where we got our fish. I quickly replied "England" and then had to expand on that a bit!! LOL

The BC CMs were awesome!

If anyone has any specific questions, let me know, and I'll be sure to answer!

Great idea about the fish & chips!!

Hey Teena,

So glad you're near the end of the radiation, I know it must be rough. I'm glad you peeked, and you can get the outfit. Just remember to totally act surprised. In fact you might want to take a second outfit that is not the 'right' gender so that you can totally play off not knowing. Or get the one you really love then one gender non-specific that you like as well and call it the 'gender that you know it's not' outfit. That way she'll never know and the lucky baby will get TWO perfect outfits, because a baby can never have too many clothes:rotfl:
