Uh oh - looks like we might miss you this year. We'll be at BC July 15-30. Sounds like you might be doing some important "helping out" this summer.

When I had my first four they didn't do routine ultrasounds so I didn't know if it was a boy or a girl until they were born. I knew the last three. It definitely made it easier to know but I think not finding out until I had the baby was a lot more exciting!!!!

Teena - quick question - there's a new thread that is all about how computers are going to do the room assigning instead of cms. Do you think we'll still be able to make room requests? I booked a gv cl room and was definitely hoping to make a request!

Sounds like you had a wonderful cruise. Did you just find out the "news" when you got back or was it a Christmas present? Think of all the fun you'll have introducing your grandchild to Disney!!!!!

No worries. The new system we have does assign rooms automatically but the room assignors still look at requests and move things around. Nothing much has changed at the Y&B. Will you always get your requests? No, .. remember the year you booked a deluxe room and requested a full balcony and you didn't get it? It ended up okay because you liked the first floor patio. Just like in the past, we try our darnest to get people what they want. Personally I recommend not to do an on-line check-in and to go to the regular front desk and ask right then and there if your room has "....whatever you requested ...." and if it doesn't, then ask if it's possible to get a room that has what you want. If one isn't available that day that meets your requests, ask if one is available the following day (if you are agreeable to a room change). Some people do not like room changes but some don't mind.

No, we found out when we got back from the cruise. Jeanne had left a message that when we got home to open a package that was waiting for us ... make sure we open it together and then call her. So we opened it after we got the luggage in. In it was a tiny little pair of beach sandals (which totally confused us both) and then under them was a sonogram. I just about fainted. Bob didn't know what the sonogram was and was totally confused. I could barely speak. So shocked. It definitely was not planned but she's 30 in May and wants a child really bad, with or without a husband, and she has been having lots of woman medical problems. My mom and I both had uterus cancer in our 30's too. She's really happy and I've always wanted to be a real grandmother. As much as I love those kids she teaches and they all call me "Grandma", I really want one to call me "Nanny" (what Jeanne always called my Mother).

Teena: I just did something impulsive!

We've had a very stressful holiday. My father passed away on the 23rd and due to the holidays, of course, everything (funeral, etc.) was drawn out past the holidays. In the middle of it all, we had the biggest snow that we've had in 21 years. I just called my friend who also works at Disney and she helped me book a last minute trip. Looks like I'll be driving down tomorrow and staying through Sunday.

I know it sounds ridiculous but the Epcot area has always been a stress reliever for me and I definitely need it now. It won't change anything but it will make me smile for a while, I just know it.

Maybe I'll see you this weekend. I enjoyed seeing you so much this past August.

Nettie

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll be there Saturday, Sunday and Monday and look forward to seeing you!

Teena - planned our unplanned that is fantastic!

My dd and her dh thought they were all done - two boys who were 6 and 8. Surprise! It really wasn't an ideal time, they were struggling financially, but that little girl is the light of our lives now!!!

Believe me I know that requests are just requests and I always remember that deluxe room that we ended up loving! I just like the chance to make the request and hope for the best!!!!

I am so happy for you, Bob and Jeanne!!!

I'm so happy for you Teena! I was 30 when I had my first child and 43 when I had my second son. My sister who is 46 has three girls, 23, 18 and 15 months!!!!! They keep you young!!

Look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Welcome back, Teena! Wish the Florida weather was more enjoyable. I am glad you and yourBob had a good time on the cruise, but wish you hadn't gotten sick again. A new baby! How exciting to have a grandchild on the way! What a wonderful Christmas present!! :yay:

Congratulations Teena! I turned 30 this year, and DH and I aren't quite ready to give my mom grandkids, but I know a lot of terrific moms in their 20s, 30s, and beyond. So happy for your family! :yay:

Wow - lots on this thread since yesterday!

Teena - CONGRATULATIONS to you, to Bob and to Jeanne! How exciting! I'm hoping that you will be able to meet my parents in February, and they can share all their "Disney grandparent" experiences! Thanks for the cruise information - good thing you know the ropes already. And thanks for the room assignment info - many of us have been following that other thread and wondering about your perspective on it.

Nettie, I'm so sorry for your loss and I really hope that you have a peaceful and relaxing trip.

And, a cheer for Amanda during her race: :cheer2:

I will be staying @ the BC for the first time on Aug 25 for 6 nights. We have been to Disney a couple of times before. We have always dreamed about staying @ the BC. Free dining has made this possible. I have boooked a standard room. Do you recommend a certian location I should request? Congrats on your exciting news!!!!

August ... a great HOT time ... you sure will enjoy SAB!!

To be totally honest, the standard rooms will pretty much guarantee you a rather "yucky" view. For me that's not a big deal because we only are in the room to shower, sleep, change clothes and have the drapes closed so I could care less what's out that window. However, IF you want to look at something nice (not a roof or parking lot), you may want to consider changing your reservation to a garden/courtyard view. I believe it only runs about $8-10 more a night for the room, not per person.

As far as room request, if you stick with standard, you probably won't care if you get a standing or full balcony since you won't want to look outside anyway. If you switch to a garden or courtyard view and you will spend time on the balcony, I'd make my request a full balcony. Personally I prefer to be close to the lobby for easy access to buses, back door to Epcot and boats and SAB. Lots of people, however, like to be far away from the lobby and closer to Epcot. It all depends what you want.

Hi!

Thanks to Teena and everyone on this thread for posting such valuable information! Dh and I are going to BC for 3 nights in February. We've never stayed here before, so we're very excited. However, due to finances, we've just booked a standard view room. Our objective for this trip is to enjoy the resort as much as possible (i.e. SAB, movie on beach, boardwalk area, Jellyrolls, walking to Epcot, etc...). We don't want to spend a lot of time in the parks, since we were just there in the fall, and will be back in the summer.

Is it possible to get a decent view from a standard room? I love sitting out on the the balcony to read and sip a glass of wine but can't afford upgrading this time round. Will I be looking at only concrete or rooftops?? :confused3 We've booked standard rooms at the Polynesian before, but have always had decent enough views so we can still enjoy the balcony. Also, if it is cold during our trip, will there still be enough to do at the resort? I'll probably spend a few hours in MK and Epcot, but other than that, I want to relax. Dh isn't into the spa thing! ;) Any advice or suggestions would be great.

Welcome to the thread! We're keeping a list of Disers visiting in February, and I'd be happy to add you to the list! Hope you love BC as much as we do!

If you would like a view similar to the lowest bookable category at the Poly, I'd suggest the garden view that Teena referenced a couple posts ago. The standard views at BC can be true parking lot or rooftop views. Upgrading to the garden view at BC isn't usually more than $10/night total. (And we were able to upgrade from standard to garden for just $6/night in February!) We'll be at BC for a week in February, so it was worth it to us to see some trees or treetops out our window - especially if Disney is able to accomodate our request for a full balcony!

Kinda, sorta OT, but had to share. We are painting our dining alcove and the blue that I was drawn to on the paint samples ended up being "Yacht Club Blue" :lmao: It was Kismet for sure! Looks great....makes me a bit "homesick" that we won't be staying at our favorite in Feb, alas there was no availability with the discount we were able to score :sad2:
