I don't see someone with fewer trips than others as a weak link either. I see it as someone who will be just as well trained by Disney during the training time, as everyone else on the panel.
In fact I agree that someone with a shorter history in Disney might be easier to train than some "old dog" who is set in their ways. Not that anyone in particular is an "old dog".
I have been going to Disney for over 5 decades. I started in DL because the family lived out west and then when we moved east and DW opened, I started going there. I have spent a lot of time in Disney and I am very comfortable planning trips for our family and others but you know what? I ask a lot of questions on this board. There are so many things that I am NOT an expert on. There are hundreds if not thousands of things I have never done!
I think what the panel pickers want is someone who expresses themselves well with words. You know that person who can make words turn into visual references in your head. I think it is a skill that is both learned and in born, I do not think you can just perfect it.
I also agree that variety is a good thing on a panel like this one so they are going to pick people who can fill many niches. I think they discovered that the first year when they named it the "Mom's" panel and recieved so many wonderful entries from fathers that they had to open their preconceived notions a bit!

I realized that I did not answer the QOTD today either.
I have a hard time explaining this one to people. To me Disney has this educational, entertainment, and engineering quality about it that is not present in Thrill parks. I think Walt's passion and his love for that wee Mouse character gives the entire area a theme of all of the above and care that went beyond the money factor. Something there appeals to the inner child, the relaxed fun person, or the inquisitive person in all of us.
