2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

Thus far the real world (the rest of the community board Dis'ers) do not like our picks. :lmao::rotfl::confused3 They say we are being too cutesy!:rotfl2:

Me thinks they all need a little bit of :tink: and some pixiedust: to un-sour their tastes!

Huh? Well, let them speak now or forever hold their peace! Or at least vote!

But alas, it is Sunday night, the game is over, Philly got cheated- twice!:happytv: and time to declare what I thought was the #1 Stupid Guest Question, while at the same time repeating for the record that it now seems that honor goes to 'What time is the 3 O'clock parade?':

Asked by a guest at WDW:

"Where is Disneyland?"
(referring to the Magic Kingdom.)

Hey! That is what I was told and I believed it!:worship:

:)

Jud

Where is Disneyland? :rotfl:Okay you got us although I will admit I have never heard anyone ask that one.

You know I have heard people say thing about how they can do it all in a day or two, of course that is before they go to WDW. I think they just have no idea how very gigantic WDW is.

I have friends who think they can plan a long 3 day weekend and do everything at WDW. I try to tell them that they just can not do that. With four parks and all the outside entertainment you need at least a week. If need be you can see some of the four parks in four days but do not include any of your travel days in that time.

We have a thrill park, Cedar Point, near us and people just think that WDW is the same thing.:rotfl:

Here is a question of the day for the last full day of waiting

How do you best explain the difference between a regular amusement park and WDW to people who are newbies?

Well, I don't know about anybody else but here I am speaking now :teeth:. (DIS'ers other than the 2010 Mom's Panel participants can read this thread too, y'know :surfweb:) As to the "Epcot Sidewalk" Poll, I am not voting at all, because I don't really like any of the available choices. Sorry about that .

Actually, I don't like the idea of naming those sidewalks anything at all, but maybe that's just me? The whole idea just seems kind of un-necessary but YMMV.

Btw, I really don't feel the need to un-sour my taste :figment:...
agnes!
PS - And best of luck to everyone here who's waiting. Hope you-all get some good news tomorrow.

Okay...I'll answer this one the way it always comes out...

First a big smile comes across my face and I say nothing as I close my eyes remembering everything from my last trip, my first trip and all trips in between then it just comes out..."It's just magic! You feel there like you feel nowhere else. It's not about the rides, it's not about the heat, it's about the smile that comes across your face and your family's face everytime you talk about it. There is NOTHING like Disney!"

Then I get the whole...are you okay look!:confused3

Oh well the poll about the naming of the lights has been a bit of a bust!:lmao:
That is the official understatement of the season!

Many posters seem very up in arms about giving the area a name while others just do not want any more characters brought into EPCOT. It is an interesting take that is for sure.

For one we really have no power to officially name anything.:lmao: But I find that many areas of Disney affectionately receive a nickname by the people who use them.
I know I have told my older kids that we will meet them at park closing by "those crazy sidewalk lights." Or you hear people say all the time that we'll meet up in front the big ball, aka Spaceship Earth in EPCOT.
But many posters do not want the area even nick named.

I for one do not understand the aversion to characters in EPCOT. After all you have some classics there like Figment, Crush, Nemo and a whole cast in the photo areas.

Most if not all of the posts in the naming thread are anti all of the names. The funniest post, and I guess I need to take it as a compliment is the one that basically feels I work for Disney Marketing!:rotfl: WOW if I only I knew that to be true!:goodvibes

I do want to make one thing abundantly clear, no one on this thread is representing Disney or the Mom's Panel with their posts here and the lights in the ground at EPCOT. We have a few posters who are currently or have been past Mom's Panel participants but they are in no way directing this thread or telling anyone to name anything.

Now that I have lost my Pixiedust for the hour, I will resume to normal broadcasting! :sad1:

But but but...I *like* "crazy sidewalk lights" ::yes::. And I don't think anyone on that thread intended to deprive anyone-else of their pixie-dust and I know that wasn't my intention here either... I just wanted to represent a possibly different point of view. Many WDW fans feel proprietary about WDW, that's why we're all fans...because we like some aspect of their media products (Mickey, Minnie...heck, even The Love Bug or That's So Raven or The Scarecrow movie!) and because we like or love the places - Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Hong Kong Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and so on - that embody those products. That's why so many of us are willing to save to have vacations there...it's our happy place (yeah, a Happy Gilmore reference...sorry), our emotional sanctuary, where we get to take a deep breath and enjoy ourselves and forget about whatever our troubles might be.

Well, I voted in the poll. As for the QOD, I may have to think on that one. The first thing that comes to mind is that I have never cried happy tears at any other amusement park I have visited. I have never captured so many pictures and memories in my head for quiet times to pull back up to remember. It's one thing to go on a water ride at an amusement park; it's an entirely different experience to go on Splash. Like so many others on these boards, WDW is my happy place.

Good morning!! So glad these days are winding down for you all. I know the wait is killing you, but know that we are all sitting here biting our nails with you! I hope you all make it because I know you have the heart and the love of Disney to do a great job.

Twende, hang on to your pixiedust!! It seems that what has been lost is that "it was all started with a mouse". Without the mouse, there would be no EPCOT! Characters are everywhere. I love all the names and that's the only reason I didn't vote yet--I just can't decide on one!!

For the QOTD, I usually say, "what's your favortie amusement park?" They tell me, and then I say, "now think of the excitement you feel there and multiply that by 100". That's what Disney World is!! It's the excitement that never leaves!

My favorite saying from someone at the parks is "I'm going over to Disney World". Well, duh!! You're at Disney World!! :rotfl2:

BTW, Jud, try the keyboard!! They are awesome! :thumbsup2

I'm running out the door to volunteer in my daughter's class, so I only have a moment to post. Based on the reactions to the poll, I'm guessing it was taken the wrong way :confused3 ? Likely if they had read the 116 ish pages on this thread, it wouldn't have caused this kind of stir ;) For voters who happen to be newly following now, here's the gist of it:

We were having "Questions of the Day" which were thoughtfully posted by the originator of this poll ( thanks, Kim). They were intended as a way to get to know each other AND pass the time while waiting for the Panel to be revealed. One of the questions was what was our favorite piece of Disney architecture found UNDER our feet. She was referring to the AK sidewalks, carpets, etc, etc etc. A bunch of us kept saying that the twinkling sidewalks at Epcot were our favorites. Then it was asked, "is there an official name for this area?" Then, "hey, maybe we should name it!". It was all in fun and a way that when we are there through the years, we can think of each other and refer to that area as "xxx" and smile. I think it's being taken seriously and out of context now. :confused3 Oh well. I, for one, shall always think of pixie dust when I see it...I always have. It has nothing to do with wanting more characters, it's just the first thing that came to my mind when we happened upon that sidewalk that I posted the pictures of. I said to my little girls, "look!! It's like someone sprinkled pixie dust all over the ground!" Then they proceeded to run around in it and giggle. Well, I'm off to volunteer for 2.5 hours in a classroom full of first graders :)

Happy Monday everyone!!

Hello everyone!!!

I am still here with my cheerleader costume on! (Good thing you guys can't see it! :rotfl:) :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I can't wait to find out who makes the finals!! :)

Here is a question of the day for the last full day of waiting

How do you best explain the difference between a regular amusement park and WDW to people who are newbies?

I was trying to explain the difference in a Disney CRUISE and a "regular" cruise - and I told my friend is was like the difference in going to Six Flags and going to Disney World. It is all in the details. I think she understood! :thumbsup2

But to answer this question....

* It is bigger than most amusement parks - basically four parks in one! :cool1: I am surprised at how many people think Disney World is only the Magic Kingdom. :confused3

* It is an emersive experience. Where you might go to an amusement park and stay all day - at Disney you go for days and are surrounded by that Disney feeling the whole time (if you stay onsite!) :grouphug:

* There is so much to do on Disney property that you can't possibly do it all in one trip - and probably can't do it all in TEN trips.

* Efficiency. The way Disney moves people around is amazing. Transportation. Lines. Everything is so efficient. :cool2:

* Details, details, details! This is very hard to explain before you go...but I usually use the illustration that on a ride they make things authentic that you can't even see. Just to make sure it is done with the highest quality. :thumbsup2

* Cleanliness. princess:

* And that Disney magic that you simply can't explain except to give examples of the wonderful things that have happened to your family. :woohoo: Or the autistic child that speaks for the first time. Or a sick child receiving his greatest wish. :cloud9: Everyone just has to experience that one on their own.

Good luck, Round 3ers!!! Tomorrow should be the big day!!! :thumbsup2

Back when film was still the photo medium, I read that 4% of the photos taken IN THE WORLD were taken at Disney World...

Think about that!

Hello All! I had to go back and read the posts from the weekend to catch-up!

Zanna - Congrats on your DH's book deal. Keep us posted about the job search.

All Round IIIer's - Just a couple more days! I am so excited for all of you!

Love the creativity with naming the sidewalk lights at EPCOT!

The 'dumbest questions' segment was hysterical! I hate the ones overheard by parents waiting in line with their LOs to see the characters. I am sure you know the ones I am referring to.

I will need to comment on the QOTD later. I am off to a meeting....

Mornin Kim!

Oh well the poll about the naming of the lights has been a bit of a bust!:lmao: That is the official understatement of the season!

Well, it's been good for me! I have two quite usable names for myself anyway. I theoretically decided on Pixiedust Pavers (love it!) but then when I was thinking about actual uses as I made my morning tea, The Twinkling Sidewalks came out a bit better: I think everyone would know (or want to know!) where I was referring to!

Many posters seem very up in arms about giving the area a name while others just do not want any more characters brought into EPCOT. It is an interesting take that is for sure.

Ah! I answered that question yesterday to a dilettante visitor! He had asked, didn't Epcot used to have NO rides at all?

'Not true. What it didn't have was "Disney". No characters or anything that related to Disney 'Pop' culture. It was a science and technology park. There were several rides, but most were educational and informative ride-throughs, such as Horizons, on transportation; Energy on the history of energy sources, Living with The Land, still running, a ride through on agriculture and the like. Mexico and Norway both had and have boat rides through their culture and history with a bit of entertainment thrown in, and a couple of countries had and have big screen movies covering their countries. But now they have added flat out thrill rides, Test Trak, followed by Mission Space, and now Soarin. And there was always the symbol of Epcot, the Big Ball, Space Ship Earth, a dark ride through the history of communication.'

For one we really have no power to officially name anything.:lmao:

I have absolute power! Say it!!! You have to say it! :)

But I find that many areas of Disney affectionately receive a nickname by the people who use them. I know I have told my older kids that we will meet them at park closing by "those crazy sidewalk lights." Or you hear people say all the time that we'll meet up in front the big ball, aka Spaceship Earth in EPCOT. But many posters do not want the area even nick named.

Where are all these posters? Has this subject been picked up on another thread?

I for one do not understand the aversion to characters in EPCOT. After all you have some classics there like Figment, Crush, Nemo and a whole cast in the photo areas.

Well, the only one that was there originally was Figment...

Most if not all of the posts in the naming thread are anti all of the names. The funniest post, and I guess I need to take it as a compliment is the one that basically feels I work for Disney Marketing!:rotfl: WOW if I only I knew that to be true!:goodvibes

Oh! That would be nice! But again, what thread be that?

I do want to make one thing abundantly clear, no one on this thread is representing Disney or the Mom's Panel with their posts here and the lights in the ground at EPCOT. We have a few posters who are currently or have been past Mom's Panel participants but they are in no way directing this thread or telling anyone to name anything.

Shouldn't that be in fine print? hehehehehee...

Now that I have lost my Pixiedust for the hour, I will resume to normal broadcasting! :sad1:

Well! Let's take care of that!

Where is Disneyland? :rotfl:Okay you got us although I will admit I have never heard anyone ask that one.

Me niether, but it was reported to me by a CM as the most ridiculous Guest Question. Answer is, with a polite smile and pointing in the official Disney two finger gesture, "About 3000 miles that way."

Here is a question of the day for the last full day of waiting

How do you best explain the difference between a regular amusement park and WDW to people who are newbies?

Oye! Good one!

I am trying to think if I do or just blow them off? :) There are already enough people there...

But... I would say it is in the details? I mean even the trash cans are themed! I love the details. Even in places where 99.9% of the guests will never see! I have over 300 days in-park and I still discover new things! Posted a pic of something a few months ago that I guarantee every single visitor to MK has walked by many times but no one had ever seen it! Heck, if I hadn't needed a break, I wouldn't have!

I also recently came to appreciate that in many cases the line queue is part of it too. Had to take the regular line (as opposed to single riders or fast pass) to EE a while back and saw how much work went into that area and how it sets you up for the experience- is in fact part of the experience!

What many don't realize is that much of that stuff is authentic! The Imagineers traveled to the home of the Yeti and brought back that stuff! Along with local stories. I mean who else does that?

Of course there is always my final fall back position: they spray something in the air that makes it all magic!

:)

Jud

Jud

I did say I liked "crazy sidewalk lights" :).

When I was a kid we had cats, dogs, horses, even some chickens at one time and as an adult we've had lots of cats throughout the years. Right now our feline residents are "Ralf", the biggest cat I have ever seen outside of a circus/zoo and "Kit-Kat" a little tortoise-shell female who never met a meal or snack she didn't like.
