An earlier post listed these numbers:

For example:
4-day Armed Forces Salute Ticket - $99
3-day base ticket - $233.24
For a total of $332.24
7-Day Base Ticket = $249.21

4-day + 2-day = $265.14 vs. 6-day = $246.02
4-day + 1-day = $183.14 vs. 5-day = $242.82

Although buying two Armed Forces Salute tickets would be too many days for you, it may be the cheapest route at 198 for 8 days.

I cant find where it states these park days can be used at different times. We have 2 trips planned for next year. One is with my parents in March and my father is a retired disable veteran. The other is with my MIL in September. If we went with my father and he purchased these tickets for us and activated them, we could use a day in March with him and then the other days in September with my MIL? Also, can he also purchase a ticket for her even though she will not be on our trip in March? Can he activate her ticket in March and she could use it in September? Thanks for the help. Im so used to base tickets that expire 14 days after first use.

Yeah, that's a good point. I suppose there is the possibility of us going back at some point before they expire at the end of Sept, but I don't know that I would be counting on it!

Thanks...

This may already be answered but... if my brother who is a disabled vet (was badly burned in a training accident) has a valid Dept of VA card will this help us out at all? Card indicates that it was service connected.

If he has a military ID card whiuch indicates "DAVPRM" on it he would be eligible.

I was wandering if anyone used the Salute The Troops room discount while the free dinning plan was available last year ? If so were you able to take advantage of free dinning ? The room discount & tickets are a great deal as it is but every little bit helps :) Thanks

Can't stack discounts. It would be nice, though, wouldn't it? You'd have to crunch the numbers to see which deal was better for your family. If you stay Deluxe, then the 40% off would probably beat free dining. If you stay Value, probably not.

I'm pretty sure that if you want to take advantage of Free Dining, even it you're buying the military tickets, you still have to buy a 1-day ticket, just like AP holders do.
I suppose they may make an exception, but I don't remember them doing it last year.

Either way you have to pick between the 40% off or Free Dining.

I read what disney released on the Armed Forces Salute Tickets and it appears that my mom, who has a military id as the wife of a retiree, should be able to activate these tickets. I am concerened we might run in to a problem since my dad who is the retiree is not making the trip with us. Has anyone tried to ativate with a spouse of a retired military id. Just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

My mom was able to activate ours even though my dad who was the military retiree did NOT take the trip with us. You should be fine.

The military room discount allows you to add the dining plan without purchasing any tickets. The codes are on mousesavers or you can just call. You can add the quickservice, regular, or deluxe plan.

What we did was the first 9 nights using the military discount prior to the start of free dining and then the last 9 nights using free dining without the military discount. Unfortunately you can't use both. The hotel was around $49 (military) a night and turned into around $97 a night for free dining. With 4 of us getting free dining (kids are adults) it worked out great for us. We saved tons on food the second 9 nights of our vacation and was totally worth the extra per night on the room.

I did this last year with no problem. My husband (the retiree) was not on the trip and I was able to buy and activate the tickets with my id.

Thanks for all the helpful advice from everyone on the free dinning and military room discount :)

I think the best way will be what Mdrob214 suggested and weigh out what would be a better value since we would probably only be staying for the 4 to 6 days allowed by the tickets . I almost think using the free dinning w/ a value stay is a better value and if you go deluxe to use the 40% off room discount , like Mdrob214 suggested :)

Again thanks so much everyone !

Sorry if this has been answered, I did try to find it!

If I do the GADGAD, can I use the value of that promo ticket towards the cost of the military ticket? So if the GADGAD is valued at $72, can I redeem that and just pay $27 for the basic Armed Forces Salute ticket?

The Armed Forces Salute tix available to retired and active military states that these tickets can be purchased for family and/or friends of military.

We are going to WDW in February - and my brother in active in the Navy. Can he purchase these tix for us, even though we are NOT military?

Yes. However, he must be present at WDW to activate the tickets. They must be activated at a WDW Park Ticket Window or Guest Relations Office and may only be activated buy a service member or spouse with proper ID.

I am so excited. I was going with just my 2 boys and mentioned that I going to DW and when. My dad called AAA and was going to reserve a room at the same time. Well he called and stated it was just too expensive $1600 just for the room. I called Disney and asked if I could reserve a room for my folks. Yes you can! I had no idea. So now my parents are going for $1677 for 8 nights and the QSRP! Of course this was using the military discount and meal package.

We went last year in Oct with FD and purchased the military salute tickets. We did have to have 1 day base tickets with our package to get the FD. I then took our 1 day tickets to Guest Relations by Disney Quest and had them remove the tickets and use them as credit towards the salute tickets. I did buy the hopper and WPM options and only had to pay the difference. We stayed in a value so the FD was the cheaper discount for us.

So you can kind of do both if FD is a better discount than 40% off + dining at full price. It does depend on your resort choice and family size/ages. This year my boys are disney adults. But they still eat like children, so I'm not sure if I'd want to pay 42 per night 2x kids to watch them not finnish 1/3 of the food. I'm debating to wait for FD announcement or may just go with the QS plan so we can do a lot of sharing and pay for a few TS meals out of pocket where I know they'll be happier with the kids menu anyway.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the eligibility for the 2010 Salute Ticket program and SOG. My Dad is a retired navy E-9 (25 yrs). Obviously, he meets eligibility for the ticket program and SOG but I was curious on if and how the eligibility relates to me and my brother (both over 21 and no longer dependants.)

I know my Dad is eligible for the 2010 Salute Tickets, and can purchase them for us, but based on what I've read about the 2009 program (the 2010 rules are a little vague), the entire party for whom the ticket are being bought needs to be present both during purchase and redemption, correct?

Also, regarding SOG, on its website it indicates that his family is also eligible to stay at SOG, but I assume this is only for dependant family, correct? I also assume that although he can sponsor a stay at SOG for us, he has to be staying there at the same time (IOW, he can't reserve for us and not go himself)? Same question for the 40% military discount for other Disney rooms?

There are basically two trips this year that we are trying to decide whether we can use SOG and/or the Salute Ticket program. The first is a golf trip with my Dad, my brother and I are taking in February. This is a no-brainier since we will all be together and he can buy and use the tickets with us present, and we'll be staying in whatever room he can get (SOG or discounted WDW room) together.

The other is a trip in June that will be just me, DW, and DD. I have tried to talk Mom and Dad into coming too, but they aren't sure they want to take the time off work. My Dad is convinced he can reserve the SOG or discount room for us, and buy the Salute Tickets for us, but I am pretty sure he's wrong as I mentioned above. Who right?

Thanks!
