2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

Hi everyone,
We're planning our first visit to Disney in Jan 2009.

Well, it will be my second visit. The park hasn't changed much since Jan 1976 has it? ;)

Heather
12 months and counting....

As a matter of fact it has. They've added a zoo. A giant silver golf ball. And some kind of movie studio. And I hear the lines are a little longer.

My dh had a great time on our last trip (his first ever trip to WDW) and I drove him crazy for three years talking about it. Now that he knows what it is like he will talk about our upcoming trip every once in a while but he pretty much told me he wasn't going to get excited about it until it is our next vacation. So I have to get through three more trips to other places before he will join me in the planning and the countdowns.

Thank goodness I have the DIS to get me by!!!

I love planning, sometimes it brightens my day just to have something to look forward too even if it's far away, at least this gives you a chance to afford everything you would like to go to. The dining plan is so much fun but boy it really is expensive. I try not to over plan though and make it to much over kill.
My dh doesn't like to plan anything he just loves to go, I do all the planning.

Isn't that the truth? I mention something every now and then to DH, but usually I get the :sad2: A face usually reserved for DS13. ;)

I've considered telling my Mom sometime soon, but know better. I'll get the "you are going THERE again? My parents have their home and a lake cabin .... and spend time almost no where else. They have visited my brother & his family in Alaska (and of course, us .. but we are only an hour away). They are not travel kind of people. Thanks to great friends, I did get to Disneyland in high school and WDW in college though!

Hmmm, do I have any Disney news? Well, kind of, I guess. My countdown is 366 .... um, er, no 367 (Leap Year) days! We leave one year from TOMORROW! :woohoo:

I wonder sometimes if it is just me being obsessive.
Allowing for the possibility that there is such a thing, I believe that I am just a little OCD. Now, if that's the case, is my preoccupation with planning for WDW just pure, simple love of the place and anticipation of returning? Or is it an actual compulsion?

HI, my name is micka mouse and I love to Dis...The last time I dis'ed was this afternoon when my kids were in gym and I was supposed to be grading papers...I don't dis very often, once in the morning before school, once when I get home from school, and only about 13 times after the kids go to bed...I am NOT a Dis-aholic! I can stop cold turkey any time I want.....:lmao:

I tried to pull dh into the computer room before dinner tonight to tell him something important. But to him, computer room = dis. He said, "I got a call today, they said no more micka mouse for you!" Secretly, I love the teasing......it makes me realize that he really kinda IS into my planning :cloud9: !

One of the girls at work that always teases me about my Disney obsession confessed to going this week while she will be on vacation in Florida! It took 13 years but I have finally worn her down.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

What grade do you teach? I am not a teacher -- but I do spend quite a bit of time at school -- as a parent volunteer! :thumbsup2

Did she ask for any advice before going? :woohoo:

Only a little. I think she was embarrassed to ask after all the grief she has given me. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Needless to say - I offered lots! :lmao:

I spent the day snickering everytime I passed her because she will come back with the Disney bug I just know it.

She loves anything that has to do with movies - so I pointed her toward DHS (MGM):goodvibes

I was so excited when we decided to go that I couldn't stop talking about it for over a week until Dh finally told me he couldn't take it anymore. LOL

So I have to let my planning and excitment come out on here!!!!!!!

I agree Terri, it is nice to be able to save and not worry about paying for the dining. It is so expensive!!

Ok, it's official - I got the ok from DH to go ahead and start deciding on a date for our trip next year in either February or March. We have only been to Disney once and it was this month, so i'm not sure how the crowds/weather are at this time... Could anyone give some recommendations on good/bad weeks during these months?? Thanks so much!!! I'm sooo excited DH agreed to the trip earlier than planned (november 2009) :cool1:

terri01p,

I am on board with you.:thumbsup2 It is the only thing we can do to make the time go by.
It also allows all of the details to be worked out as well.:teacher: At least 2009 is now "next year" now!

I have set to official goals for myself in the next upcoming months one is to look through all of the disney pic of the day thread and all of the food porn thread.
Then I feel I will be fully armed and ready to plan my trip:lmao: :lmao:

OH DISNEYmooner2008 we went last march in the 14th through the 21st and it started to get crowded near the end, we were able to ride splash mountain five times in a row with no wait. I think it all depends on when everyone's spring break is.

I decided today might be a good day to do some itinerary planning. Because I only have 672 days to go! :rolleyes1
Here's what I've got so far:

11/26 -Th – travel day, check into POR, Chef Mickey's for dinner
11/27 - Fr – MK, breakfast at CRT
11/28 - Sat – Epcot, lunch at Garden Grill, break, Illuminations
11/29 - Sun – break day, shop at DTD/pool
11/30 - Mon – DHS - lunch at Sci-Fi
12/1 - Tues – MK, break, MVMCP
12/2 - Wed –rest day/ switch to Wilderness Lodge, dinner at Mama Melrose (FDP), Fantasmic
12/3 - Th – Epcot, dinner at Whispering Canyon
12/4 - Fr – AK, dinner at Boma
12/5 - Sat – breakfast at 0’hana, travel home

I may flip-flop 11/28 and 11/29. We won't be quite ready for a break day yet, but Saturday after Thanksgiving will be really busy so we might be better off avoiding the crowds.

Will the day after Thanksgiving be a nightmare? :scared:

:dance3: We leave for our next WDW vacation one year from today!! :dance3: My excitement level certainly elevated today -- and will even more tomorrow when that darn ticker moves to 11 months! :woohoo:

I am anxious to start planning, but until we have firm ressies, I don't go too crazy. I am considering the purchase of an AP to get the AP room discount next January -- but only if we are certain of that discount -- which in that past hasn't been announced until October.

Question for everyone -- we've always purchased park hopper tickets in the part as part of a package thru a TA. I am considering basic park tickets for this trip (maybe I can do better than a TA?). Can you leave and come back to the SAME park in the SAME day with these? Realistically, we rarely jump parks, so that may be a place we can save some $$, but would like to leave a park to go rest or have dinner elsewhere and then return.

They often have free park hopper upgrades in Jan/Feb, but that is only with the MYW package -- and if I get the AP for me (to get the room only discount), we wouldn't be doing a MYW package.

Someone else will correct me if there has been another experience, but as long as you get your hand stamped when you leave, you can return to the same park. I believe this has less to do with the park hopper ticket as it does the current occupancy of the park (i.e. You and your family leaves MK, and upon return without a stamp, they have no way of knowing that you already figure into what they've accounted for). Again I'm sure someone will correct me if they have had a different experience, but I've never been refused re-entry with my hand stamped.

Thanks for the info! Guess we'll have to be careful not to scrub our hands too thoroughly then -- or go swimming ?? :confused3

We'll be in your area in July -- South Shore/Marshfield. DH has family in that area. (He grew up around Lowell/Chelmsford) and I went to school in Western Mass for a short time. It will be great to be at the beach in July!

I teach 2nd. One of my students went to WDW in October, and another is going in May. One of the dads who was in for our Halloween party sat down and just talked about their summer trip with me. It was great!!!! I love to hear about other people's trips :thumbsup2 !

Hey everybody! I've been lazy the last two days. I'll update the list soon.:)
