2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

I have a question about the corking fee. When we board the cruise do we have to go somewhere to give them our wine or do we wait until the first night at dinner?

You don't have to surrender your wine, if you bring the bottle (open or unopened) to the dining room they charge your room 15.00 (I think that is the current fee). The way around it - tacky I know - is to open it yourself, pour the wine into glasses and carry it in that way. You could have purchased the wine at the bar - they can't tell, so they can't charge a fee for it that way. We have been known to carry some pretty good wines into the dining room in very large plastic glasses (about 750 ml :>~ !!) without difficulty. Of course - once one knows ones server it helps of course.

Good morning everyone! Padalyn is right about the wine. We aren't wine drinkers but have good friends who are. They just ask their room steward for wine glasses and pour the wine in their room. No worries at all.

Woke up this morning to 7 inches of snow and it is still coming down.

I just can't picture that to the fullest. I used to live in Germany and saw lots of it and guess my mind doesn't want to see it again. I guess it is just what you get used to. !!!!

I also love the Honolulu and Waikai area. My son lives there. He renewed his wedding vows before he went to Iraq last year and it was beautiful. Up on the North Shore at sunset. I look at the pics all the time to remember that visit.

Am supposed to go the 2nd week in April but can't travel that far right now so I am bringing my DIN and g/children to Ft. Lauderdale for 3 weeks. That way they will get to visit with all of us instead of me just visiting them. I'll go to them later again.

That's a good way to do it also. If you get a waiter that you have had before, you can talk him into not charging you.

Have a great time in Hawaii. We have been twice. I want to go back some day without kids. We stayed for a week in 94 when the Airforce was moving us from Guam back to the states. After 2 1/2 years in guam my kids wanted nothing to do with any beaches. I have only been to Waikiki.

Enjoy the sun. make sure you have some of that wonderful Dole whip just like in WDW.

My wait list just came available and me and ds(6) are booked on this cruise in 2645! I just joined DVC in Jan so I have never been on the member cruise before. In fact I have never been on ANY cruise however me and a friend are booked on Carnival in April. So I am off to read all the post I have missed and if there is anything else I need to do or anything I have missed please let me know. I'm am too excited to really think right now

So what happens if i drink more than one glass with the meal? Also if it's not kept with the dining room staff where can I keep it chilled? I'm assuming that the coolers in the room don't provide enough cold to do that.

We have never been on a member cruise either but we have been on two Disney Cruises so far.

Actually the room coolers are just fine for keeping wine at a good temp. Reds of course can survive at room temp. That is why we buy such big plastic glasses - it will fit the average bottle of wine in one glass - then we just pour into the regular wine glasses at the table...(I did say this was tacky, right?)

I have not been lucky enough to find a server that would waive the fee, between the three of us we have been on over 25 disney cruises. This seems to be the system that works the best for us.

We have also been known to do this with other mixed beverages (ie: rum, gin etc).

You will find a system that works for you I am sure

Welcome! Glad you are joining us. Got your e-mail last night. Now I really do have to update the page. I've put it off for too long.

A number of us have been on the DVC Member Cruises before as well as regular DCL cruises so any questions you have just ask away! You and your son are in for some fun!

I'd also add to what Padalyn said, even if the cooler isn't enough, your room steward will keep your ice bucket in room full, so you could always stand it in that.

I never found the cooler cold enough for soda & water. have always brought a soft sided cooler with us.

1. So what I some things I can be doing now to prepare or is there anything "special" we are doing or have planned right now.
2. I know I have read about door signs? Not sure what these are or where to even start.
3. Also I read somewhere that several members chartered a bus to the port last year. Are there any plans for this now?
4. Is everyone going down at least the night before? I would like the stay the night before and after but I used so many points for this cruise I don't want to use anymore..maybe I will do a cash ressie. How does that work? Do I just call member services to book it? Do you just pay when you book?
5.Is anyone planning on going to MNSSHP on the day we get back? DIS has the dates but I find it kind of strange it's the only place I can find them so I wonder if they are accurate.

I have a million more questions but I figure this is enough for now.

1. So what I some things I can be doing now to prepare or is there anything "special" we are doing or have planned right now. The only thing planned right now is the buttons we are making and that we will have some type of DIS meet on board. What else is really up to the group. On past cruises we've had someone organize t-shirts (last year we did them through Cafepress which worked out really well). We've also had a day before DIS meet and if there is interest we can do that again.


2. I know I have read about door signs? Not sure what these are or where to even start. Since the doors of your cabin are made metal many people like to make signs on magnetic paper (or regular paper with magnetic strips on back) to put on their door. Some include pictures, others names, or Mickey Mouse clip art. There is a large thread on the main cruise forum about door signs. The best part is that it makes it really easy to find your room!


3. Also I read somewhere that several members chartered a bus to the port last year. Are there any plans for this now? I don't know if there are any plans for that this year. The woman who did it last year isn't going on this cruise. It was a lot of fun though!

We're staying the two nights before at Boardwalk (our home). Member Services should be able to book you on cash as well for a DVC resort. If you want something cheaper (Pop or All Stars maybe) you should be able to do that through CRO.

5.Is anyone planning on going to MNSSHP on the day we get back? DIS has the dates but I find it kind of strange it's the only place I can find them so I wonder if they are accurate. I know a lot did after last years cruise. We're heading up to Hilton Head directly from the cruise so no MNSSHP for us.
