HEY - got a TOP and Mary didn't steal it from me!!!

Morning all. I knew we'd break 10k before the weekend. Mark, got to love the little smilie! GaRry, sorry you missed the 10k post though.

And yes, Joe & Joanne were on our inaugural western. They were the ones who got the lime green lanyards I was talking about.

I finished both kids' Parent teacher conferences. Those were the best conferences I've ever had! Both kids are doing very well this year. DS's math teacher (who had DD last year) told me "Boy those kids are completely different personalities aren't they? I never would have guessed they were related!" I've always said that God gave me DD before I knew any better! Once DS was born, I really said "so that's what a baby's supposed to be like!" I love them both dearly, but DD has always had a challenging personality. That's why it's so great to find out that she's hit her stride this year at school. All her teachers say that they love having her in class. Her chorus teacher is recommending her for all-county chorus as well.

DS is supposed to have a fishing overnight with scouts tomorrow. It's going to rain and be in the 60s, but he still wants to do it. The good news is that it's on base, so if it gets bad, we're just 20 minutes away. And the better news is that neither of us is camping with him :P

Anyone up for chat tonight? Assuming we don't break our internet, I'll be there with bells on.

Dumb question yes, but hey, I bodysurfed and ottered around the surfers. What can I do so I can breath with one of those things on? I've tried before and it freaks me out. HELP. ::MinnieMo thanks -D
Hey Denise,
Your best bet is to get your own mask and snorkel. The ones that you rent or are given on the excursions are basically junk! Go to a dive shop and get a mask that fits. A nice soft silicone skirt that seals well to "your" face will help you out immensely. The snorkel is not as important, but still can be a problem if it leaks. There are three basic designs: The simple "J" design (old school), the semi-dry; which has a top that will divert most water off the tube instead of down, but will allow water in if submersed. The last is a "dry" snorkel, like the Ocean Master that keeps water out. Most of the snorkels available now have a flexible part between the tube and the mouth piece for comfort.

Recommend taking your snorkel and mask to the pool ( or tub if you have a large one). Put the snorkel in your mouth and just breathe as you submerse your face. Keep breathing, but keep the snorkel end from dipping into the water. I would close my eyes, the pool chlorine is a killer.

Now, once your comfortable breathing off the snorkel, put the snorkel on the left side of the mask and put both on. NOTE: If you get a new (or have a mask that hasn't been used) clean the lenses with simple toothpaste. This cleans the protective layer off and will allow you to use a defog and it will work. Use the defog (spit works, so does baby shampoo, or you can buy the defog that dive shops sell. I like 500psi defog.)

As you snorkel, your face will be pointing down, this should allow the snorkel to stick up and back slightly to avoid being dipped into the water. Take long, slow breaths like your above water and just relax!!

If you want to surface dive, just take a breath and tuck your body. Dive and when surfacing, just blow out forcibly this discharges the water in the snorkel and your good to breath from it again.

Hope this helps you! I love diving in the Southern Calif. waters. Kelp is wonderful!

Hey, Virgil...
If you're there...
Any idea what time Frances left home? I need to run to Kroger and get :crazy2: Pepsi, but I don't want her to get here and me not be home. :)

We are also very glad football season is here. We are avid University of Southern California fans. Go Trojans! Last year was a very good year and this year looks to be the same. Of course, we always root for the Pac 10 and love all those games with the Big 10. :cheer2:

Good Morning All!

Hey! What's with the :crazy2: Pepsi???? Don't you know that Pepsi is the nectar of the Gods????? LOL
After a week of only coke at WDW and on the ship, I about went crazy when I found Pepsi at Blue Lagoon. Stuffed my bag with it!!

Not too much of a football fan here. But, growing up in Nebraska, it was a little hard to ignore all the Cornhusker fans.....so, just for them: GO BIG RED!!!

So, is Saturday our day to book excursions, or Sunday....if they let us?

Did I mention in my mini-bio that DH is a Dive Con? He's been teaching snorkeling.

Stacey, you need to encourage DH to take the kids and animals WITH him to the cabin. Then we can PAR-TAY!!! I'm on my own this weekend too. But I will probably work all weekend on listings. Well, I might sneak off to see "Wimbledon". Shhh, don't tell DD.

I kind of miss teacher conferences, you don't get those in mid-school. We got progress reports this week, all A's. But we're missing the report from the Lang/Lit teacher, the one I'm worried about. Guess I will call her.

Sure, Diana.....do you see Jordan going to the cabin without me???
I do wish Jared would go, though. Then Jordan and I could go shop for her cruise clothing. Have to see what I can do about that.

I have a million little projects that I can think of to do this weekend. I will really have to get myself in gear in order to get them done, though.

Off to work...better late than never!

I made it home. Even took the Sprite out of the Skybox, changed the label to :crazy2: Pepsi and filled it up! :)

Yes, Stace, :crazy2: Pepsi. We are Coke addicts here! (how bad does THAT sound?)

That's probably why she left you.......even if only temporarily!

We are back from our first day of vacation to nowhere. Actually we had a fantastic day. We got what is called a City Pass which allows you into a number of the area attractions within 9 days.

Today we did the Shedd Aquarium and got to see their new Wild Reef exhibit. Amazing! They even had a plexiglass platform where you could stand over stingrays. Almost as good as swimming with them in Grand Cayman!

Then we went to the Adler Planetium - just a short walk away. This was also a lot of fun and included a show on Mars.

Last but by no means least we took a bus down to the John Hancock building and went up to the 94th floor. It was a beautiful clear day here in Chicago and you could see so far!

This weekend will be the usual house stuff like laundry, cleaning and gardening. Monday we are off to visit the Museum of Science and Industry.

So we didn't get our road trip to Hershey, but we are having a great time exploring our own city - something we don't get to do very often.

Hope Mark and I are forgiven for taking #10000 away from gaRry.

I have pm's out to MrsMork, Vicki and GaRry - so please check your mailboxes!

Almost forgot Pepsi household here, but I pretty much gave up pop a year ago. I'll only drink it now when we are out like today and Mark gets an extra large. Then I'll take a few sips.

Hey I got the top of 670:bounce: woo hoo:bounce: Thanks Kevin for the advice. I'll give it a try. Maybe I'll hit the Cove before the water gets too cold. I can't stop thinking about the cruise. First timers excitement I guess. Gotta make it short Yoga tonight. ohmmm. Everyone have a great evening. CIAO!-D

No soda drinkers in our house. I sometimes buy some if we're having underage company, it sits in around until it goes flat. At least we don't have to worry about buying the mugs anywhere, unless it's for COFFEE. Has anyone tried the coffee yet at the Cova Cafe? Is it better than the usual DCL coffee?

Vicki, check your PM's.

We're going to be brave tonight and watch "Jersey Girl", or maybe "Ladykillers". I'm happy to say that we didn't pay theater prices for either one, but waited for the DVDs.

Mary,
Sounds like you made a fun day out of your vacation to nowhere!

Seems like we never get around to exploring our own area unless we have out of town visitors.

I had gotten to a point in the last month or so where I was drinking way too much Pepsi. Had to cut back. That's probably where half of my extra pounds came from. If it's only liquid, why should it make us fat?

DH hasn't even come home from work yet, let alone left for the cabin. Getting pretty late to drive all the way up there.....
Couldn't talk Jared into going with him, either. Ends up it didn't really matter, Jordan has a friend coming over to finish a project for their Film & Video class. So I guess I'll be getting some of my projects done.

Lynda....I just spent the last 2 hours trying to find any info at all on accessible excursions. The best I came up with was one site that said that most of the tour operators in the Caribbean are equipped to handle a person with mobility problems. Surely, someone at Disney should know whether their excursions are accessible??
I also e-mailed the Jolly Roger Pirate operators directly, to ask them. I'll let you know.

Back later.....DH just walked in.

Stacey
