Found this:
"On Monday, April 19, it is rumored that a construction wall will go up around the site of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction. This will begin a seven-month project to clear the land as well as add landscape for future use. There is no official news at this time of what will be done with the land. However, previous rumors indicated a version of Mermaid Lagoon from Tokyo, or a more elaborate Eticket attraction are likely contenders."

What do you think?

Confirmed. Landscape for future use is the line. Not sure if there is any definite plans for the site.

I'd like to apologize by the way, I misunderstood my source on this. There are no plans other then filling it in.

It's almost a shame, that was a nice serene spot to sit and rest, and quite a nice spot for fireworks viewing as well.

True, but the remnants of 20K were a bit of an eyesore as well. I'm glad they're finally taking SOME action on it.

How long has that ride been closed for anyway? 6, 7 years?

I was hoping they would do some type of Nemo ride but since they have added Nemo to Living Seas, I suppose that won't happen.

There is a rumor floating around that a Finding Nemo themed attraction might be heading for the Sub lagoon at Disneyland.

I'm going to miss the lagoon, I wish they could have figured out some way to repurpose it while saving most of its beauty.

I always thought it was weird/sad that you could still see the tracks from the old ride down in the water. I pointed them out to my DD13 a couple of weeks ago. Seems like a prime spot for something good and water related. I vote for NEMO!!!!!

I vote for nearly anything but a character viewing spot. WDW needs a good attraction in that wasted space, just give us something done well, not cheap and haphazard like they did in Epcot to the Imagination/Dreamfinder attraction.:) :sunny:

Glad to hear they are filling that thing in..

On our last trip my wife and daughter went over to see Ariel near that lagoon and came back with horrible mosquito bites all over her legs.. I am sure mosquitos were just loving this lagoon...

Maybe now that Comcast has dropped it's bid for Disney, Ei$ner and his partners in crime {board members} will no longer feel the need to do any more building at the resorts now that they do not have anyone hounding them... Oh , except Roy and Stan, and the share holders, and,....oh, yea the dissatisfied employees. Oops, maybe there still are people out there that will continue to keep an eye on both him and his friends on the board.

yet another example of how current management is blowing off the expressed desires of guests.

Historically, management argues that the 20K attraction is/was expensive to mantaine.....Walt and Roy Sr & Jr Knew/know that if a popular attraction is/was expensive to maintain....it was worthwhile to satisfy the guests desires...as they'd reward the company with income and profits in associated ways.

I truely thought that it closed because of lack of acessiblity for disabled and emergency exits.

Well, one point was that it was THE slowest loading and unloading ride on property. Think back, wayyyy back when the ride was still operational; you
had to walk across that "plank" from the loading dock to the hatch on the deck of the ship. Then, you had to walk down those difficult-to-navigate ladder/stairs to get into the ship. Not that I am saying they should have closed it to begin with, but it did take some time to load/unload the vehicles.

I do not care if they put a combination Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Atlantis ride as long as they do something. Fantasyland is the worst area in the park for wait time if you ask me. As much as I love to go on Peter Pan or Winnie, my children are teenagers now and they will not go along with waiting all that time for those rides. If they put another draw in that land maybe it will help pull some of the wait time down on the other rides.
