Okay, we are a family of 5, 2 teenagers and planning a trip in August to go to Universal. Looking for a reasonable priced villa or condo or something where we actually have 2 bdrms so we can sleep without being on top of each other since we will be staying for a week and something not too crazy in price. Looking for suggestions. I've searched and searched on line, but just getting more confused. I've seen the Marriott Cyress Harbour (worried about getting the timeshare speech). Sheraton Vistana Resort (debating about this). Would like something closer to Universal, but this probably isn't that far really. Would prefer to have a washer/dryer to save on laundry but isn't necessary. Kids would love breakfast, but only get that if staying in something without actual separate bedrooms. Looked at Windsor Hills, though it really isn't close to Universal, but the ones I looked at weren't available for the time we are going.

Just a suggestion, open your search to 3BR condos and villas. I was looking for a 2BR as well - only three of us on our trip - but found that they are far less common than the 3BR units, and the 2BR owners quoted me prices that were exactly the same as the 3BRs. So we're getting a 3BR in Windsor Hills, will have lots of extra space but that's OK.

Have you looked on VRBO? We are renting a four bedroom three bath at Villas at Seven Dwarfs Lane for $499, May 27 - June 3. It is a new place off 192. We just love having the space and not fighting over a bathroom. Just think with a four bedroom each of the kids could have their own room! the kids rooms would be upstairs so more privacy for you.

Maybe you could try hotelmartusa.com. I just typed in Orlando as my city search for 7 nights in August and they came up with Fiesta Key Resort for $79.85 including tax for a 3 bedroom and $86 for a 4 bedroom. I think this is a new resort and I don't know anything about it, but it is a great price. They also have Bahama Bay Resort for $134 (tax not included). Venetian Bay Villages was $84 and $94 tax included for 3 and 4 bedrooms and they had Vista Cay for $106.20 tax included. I have not stayed at these places but I have booked through hotelmartusa.com and had good luck. Hope this helps.

but if you want something close to Universal - then I would go with Hilton Grand vacation club.

if you rent from a member you don't need to listen to the pitch.

but listening to the pitch can save you money if you rent from HGVC.

Hotelkingdom.com offers a 2 bedroom at Cypress Point Grand Villas for only $99.12 per night!

Yes and if you read some of the other threads, these reservations sometimes don't exist as far as Cypress Pointe is concerned, and the vacationer receives a call from a hotelkingdom staff member 2 weeks before departure offering to move them somewhere else (not as nice).

Based on what I've read on the Dis, I would stay away from hotelkingdom.

Vista Cay is pretty much a brand new community and closer to Universal than the properties down off of 192 in Kissimmee.

You can get a 3bed / 2 bath condo for around $175 a night, and the pool looks very nice.

Good Luck!

We're heading to Disney in November with a party of 10. We usually stay onsite, but with 10 it is just too much $$$! I was leery of staying in a vacation home too, but I'm now feeling really great about our choice. More space, closer pools, closer parking, less money than WDW.

You'll find something just right I'm sure.

I just got back on Saturday from the Cypress Pointe Grand Villas. We rented through HotelKingdom a 2BR that had a complete kitchen, washer/dryer and 2 full baths. It even had a screened in balcony with a pool view. It was about 3 lights away from interstate 4 and about 2 blocks from Downtown Disney.

We booked in January for our Spring Break trip and paid $750 for a 7 night stay. There were 2 adults and 5 children. The 2nd bedroom had 2 twin beds, Living Room had either a Full or Queen size pullout and the Master had a King Size bed with it's own bathroom (included a jacuzzi tub).

We got a little nervous when we started hearing a week and half before our trip about people getting cancelled on, but we did not have the same expierence. The only issue I had was that I did a load of laundry and the dryer unit burnt a few holes in 6 of my shirts! I called down to the front desk and told them the situation. I went down there and showed them the shirts and they IMMEDIATELY sent someone up to check on it. They totally fixed it, because it did not do it to the next set we did (I know, call me crazy for risking it!). And to top it off, I spoke to the manager the next morning and they gave me cash for the 6 shirts that were ruined!:woohoo:

I would defintely recommend HotelKingdom and the Cypress Pointe Grand Villas. The staff were helpful and very nice! We also did not get any calls for the timeshare speil.....could be because all the units are sold out, so that made it even nicer!

You mentioned Marriotts Cypress Harbour. I would also check out their Grande Vista Resort as well as Horizons. They are all very nice and if you do decide to book direct on their site, you would not have to do the timeshare tour unless you specifically sign up for a package with it.

Grand Palms condos, mostly 3 BR run from $50-75 a night. Villas at Island Club are across the street from Grand Palms and run about the same, price wise. PM me for info about some owners we've talked to. :)

You might try "The Fountains." We stayed there last year. It's on the quiet, south end of International Drive. Easy to get to Seaworld AND Disney World.

I think most of their units are 2 bedroom. Washer/dryers in each unit and they appeared to have a good number of planned activities throughout the day. They are typical Orlando vacation condo where housekeeping is not included. You could probably pay extra for it, though.

We booked through one of the "Florida" tourism sites for a rate of about $119 per night last year. This year the cheapest rate I've seen was on hotelkingdom.com ($132 per night. Hotelopia had it for $75 a night but we don't have dates yet. :sad1: ) I've only used hotelkingdom once and that was about 5 or 6 years ago, but didn't have any problems.

Good luck!
