Yes to all of the above!!! A hesitation on the FE's. I've been reading about them, but I don't think I understand all the details, can you explain how it would work, and what kind of things we we bring?
We only booked a week ago, and I've been on the DIS, but I'm reading everything I can rather than posting.
I guess I should introduce myself a bit... Me, DH, DS8 and DS11... and we are on deck 6. First time cruise to anywhere. Both of our trips to DW were 10 day trips, and we love Epcot! DH gets travel sick, so I'm a bit worried. EVERYONE said he'd be fine... and I talked him up to a 5N from a 3N... the day after we booked, I ran into someone at my kid's school who spent an entire cruise sick.
I haven't told him, but if that happens I'm in BIG TROUBLE! LOL!
Ok here is how the FE exchange works:
1. Member of the group sign up to participate (participation is completely voluntary)
2. Once you have signed up, you then prepare a gift for the other participants in the exchange. The gift can be purchased or made, the choice is up to you! You can also choose to either give 1 (or more) gift(s) per person or 1 (or more) gift(s) per stateroom/family. At some point there is usually a cut off date, so everybody knows how many people are participating (and ie how many gifts to prepare for).
3. Prepare something to hang beside your stateroom door that will be used for holding the gifts from other participants. You can either purchase you FE (people sell them on ebay and etsy) or you can be creative and make your own - anything goes!
4. When you get onboard the ship, hang your FE beside your door.
5. At some point during the cruise, deliver the gifts you have brought for the other participants to their staterooms and leave them in the FE next to their door.
People give everything you can think of, from tiny bottles of rum to tote bags to pencils to picture frames. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you choose and everything is appreciated!
On our first cruise we made individual passport covers for each person in the group - which turned out to be almost 90 covers, yikes! They turned out really cute but the process was so time consuming that the for our second cruise we made a gift for the whole cabin (Adventure books inspired by "Up" with a bag of tools for recording the adventure - crayons, child proof scissors, glue sticks etc).
Its very exciting to get a new treat in your FE when you come back to the room and I highly recommend participating! It can be a bit overwhelming but this group looks like it is going to be on the small side, which might be a good FE initiation fir first timers.
Does this help? Anymore questions?
