Schatz5k...Chinese can be a killer...the key is portion control...I'm usually hungry an hour after eating it! But you can have egg drop soup and a small portion of chicken fried rice and be okay...just avoid anything with sauces. When I chose my days and weight I just figured on losing 1-2 pounds a week...that's 25 weeks and I need to lose around 40 to get to goal...so I figured that would be a good number to work towards. I know some weeks I'll maintain even with consistent exercise so I didn't want to make it an impossible number. I normally would break it up in to 20 pound increments but I'm soo ready to be at goal it just helped to know that in 175 days I CAN be! :) YOU CAN TOO!!!! Let's do it! :) Just read your post about Disney...oh man, I know, I've been there...I planned 5 trips!!! And had to cancel them all!!! Kept waiting for our house to sell...but when we finally did take that trip (last September) it was glorious and worth the wait...so get those ebay items up and imagine how you're going to enjoy that blow money when you can! :)

Maria!!! Get on that scale!!! I did and it makes me want to puke...but I know I will make this day a losing day if I see where I'm starting....you will make that treadmill be your friend and never see those numbers again!! I'm coming down to your numbers...so you better start moving quick! :) Let's blast into the Spring in new numbers! :)

donac!!! busy schedules can be challenging...treat yourself well and try and resist the urge for those quick foods and don't skip meals...make yourself some carrot sticks and let those be a good pick me up while you're running here and there..I'm saying that because I have a bag of carrots waiting to be trimmed and cut right now! :) I just threw the last unopened bag away...never got to them...but these carrots will be different! :)

Jimandmessie!!! We don't care how long it takes you to get to the 150's we just want to cheer you down all the way! :) So come on in and share your plan and let us help you realize it! :) WELCOME!!!

Jen!!! GET BETTER!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Linda! We got your weather I guess...not used to having icy patios...this morning fell right on my keester due to ice that did not look like ice as I was walking our pup! Whew!! There can be something said for nice padding on the rump! :) But that's a poor reason to hang on to it. :goodvibes I just had my slimfast and am cleaning the house from 5 days of neglect while I've been painting! :)

See you losers soon!!!!

Tara

Just a quick note to say hi! The math meet went well. We are still in 6th place so no chance for a trophy this year, they only go tot the top 5 schools.

I have been trying to treat myself well. Last night I brought no paperwork home and took a bubble bath to relax. My only real slip yesterday was the small piece of cake at the advisors meeting. But I have gone almost 48 hours without any chocolate and that is a big accomplishment. I think the good night sleep and the healthy food I have been eating is paying off. BP this morning was 118/72

Have a nice day and I am off to grade more papers.

Hi Guys!

Still feeling good and in control. Yesterday I stuck to my plan, with the exception of adding 1 Babybel between lunch and dinner. I just got too hungry, but since those are 2 pts. not a bad splurge. Plus the calcium is always good... I did do my 45 minutes on the TM, jogging along. I didn't really want to do it when I got home, but I'm more tired of my clothes bursting, so I'm making a good choice. Tonight I'm doing an hour walk, which is more for habit than calories or cardio.

Today's eating:
B - raisin bran & milk
L - chicken soup, 100 cal Ritz, Splenda Applesauce
S - hot tea and 2 Hershey's caramel kisses
D - baked chicken, mashed potatoes & green veggies
S - hot tea and 100cal PB cookies

There's a new website called www.thebratfactor.com. I'm not promoting it or anything, but it deals with our "inner" brat and how it causes us to resist doing the things we need to do. They have a free service if you register which will send you a little message to encourage you each day. I've liked it so far. I haven't purchased any of their merchandise, but I like the idea. For me, I do know what I should do, I just find it difficult to make it happen.

Dona -- Treating yourself right is definitely worth the time and effort! You deserve to enjoy yourself, relax and pamper. You will feel better and more like doing the things you need to in order to reach your goals! :cloud9:

Tara -- I am determined to get those new numbers, I just need to work harder before I see the scale. If I get on now, who knows how depressed I'll be I promise that by next Wednesday, I will look at the scale

Linda -- You are getting so close! You are going to do it, I just know it! Hang in there, you will make it. :goodvibes

Tracy -- I am so sorry for your disappointment. :sad2: It is upsetting to have to cancel a trip. We recently decided to seriously cut back on our vacationing as of next year, and I'm still struggling with it. Kudos to you for being responsible and recognizing that you have to do what's right for your family. Sometimes being a grown-up is not fun, but in the long run you are teaching your kids a great lesson.

Jim and Messie -- :welcome: You will find this is a fantastic place for support. It doesn't matter where you start at, we all have the same goal!

Jen -- Get lots of rest and water and feel better soon! So sorry you're

Kathy, Haley, Jean, and everyone else -- Keep plugging away. February is a great time to learn from any mistakes made in January (that's me :rotfl: ) and regroup! Still plenty of 2006 left to lose those pounds! :snail: Slow and steady will win this race.

Maria

Well, I had to stay home from school today. I had the fever, the chills, the tummy-ucks, snotty nose...the whole shebang! The good news is that I feel slightly more human now because I slept almost the whole day...

B: no breakfast....I nearly tossed my cookies and didn't want to risk it...
L: Ramen noodles
S: Ramen noodles, toast, marshymellows

Water: I think i've drank enough to fill a bathtub...seriously...

I still feel kind of icky though but better than last night.

Welcome Jim and Meesie!

I'd send you all hugs but I'm sick and kind of grungy. So I am sending all of you happy thoughts and smiles instead!

Jen,

Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. As a mom of six, I give you permission to stay home again. I know I wouldn't want you cruddying up the school. Just think of the outbreak.

So, I am finally coming outta my slump.. My DD Taylor is another story. She said we ALWAYS go in the fall or winter, just lets PLEASE go in the Spring. I told her we would have to wait and see.

DH work yesterday, today and tomorrow. YAY. Now I have a picture for ya's(that's the New Yorker coming out in me) Anyway, as you know DH is a lineman, those are the guys who work on the power poles. Ok so DH is working at a Boy Scout camp that was destroyed by the Delaware River flooding over two years ago. Well the camp is on an island in the Delaware River. I ask Dh how he gets out to the island. Ya see in my mind I see him and the other lineman he is working with, rowing a boat out there just like Washington crossing the Delaware. What a sight these two must be in the dark morningsticking out like sore thumbs because they have orange shirts on, crossing the Delaware. Now they are not rowing but I think it could be pretty amusing to think about. They apparently have a motor boat. So I as DH how they are putting up the poles and he tells me by hand. He say, that they have to roll the pole over to the big hole they dug, put the bottom in the hole and than take another pole and prop up the first pole until they get it standing straight. So than, I just hadda ask, how they got the poles on the island in the first place. He told me they put the poles in the water up the river and pulled them down with a boat. Now I just envision this as being pretty funny, as the Delaware runs pretty fast around here. I can just see this pole having a mind of its own, and than how exactly do you get it outta the water. Wet poles tend to be slippery. Oh well who cares, I'm jsut glad he is working.

did a good thing for myself today. Worked out for 60 miutes at the gym. and I'm taking the pilates class so that will be another 60 minutes. I'm going to talk to the new PT and give her the challange of making me slim and toned for my upcoming trip to Disney.

Speaking of that. I cancel all my ADR's and although I didn't cry, I realized I had a pretty good trip going. Oh well, there is always next year.

Welcome Jim and Meesie Everyone here will pick you up when you are feeling bad and we won't let you quit. We are on this journey TOGETHER ;)

Maria good food choices, I'm gonna check out that site you were mentioning.

DH just brought me dinner, so I'm gonna go eat. I have an hour to digest before pilates.

See ya later

Okay my second family:

What do you recommend that this sick chickie have for dinner? I'd like to try to stay away from things with milk in it...because that will stuffle me up... And if you have any ways to "help" a sore throat that would be appreciated :)

Hugs, Tracy...one of these days you will be greatly rewarded for your sacrifice...and I hope that you have the best trip of your life when you can take it. Our house needs major work too, so I don't think we will be doing anything real big for quite a while...

Hi all,

DD Ellissa has an assignment in which she needs to find out what things fans of anything will go out and do. She wants to find out what Disney Fans put on their license plates. I thought someone here posted that she ordered plates, and even had a link to some that are driving around our country. Does anyone know of a site that she could look at.

Thanks

I only have aminute to post because I still have 5 grades to do and enter before I leave to give my workshop.

My stress test came back normal. He feels that it an electrical problem that can be calmed down with medication. Yesterday and today are the first days that I have felt like myself in a few weeks. Maybe the medication is finally working and maybe it is the relief that the test came back negative.

Thanks for all the good wishes I have gotten over the past few weeks.

Now I know why I keep coming back to the Dis

Hi, everyone.

Update: ds is better. dd is better, but no great. she missed a week of school. i sent her today, but she's still having trouble breathing (she has a medical condition that affects her truck strength and breath when she's not sick, so she usually gets hit hard by these things every winter). i'm taking her back to dr to see if some time of inhaler would be appropriate.

i fought off whatever this was over the weekend. i'm just starting to feel like myself today.

i have been so hungry. i feel like i could snack all day long. i don't really eat big at any one sitting. i just graze and never feel satisfied. i'll eat carrot sticks and oranges up to m&m's and chips. i'm not sure what's wrong with me... part of the problem is there's no work for me, so i've been home alot without a real schedule. plus trapped in the house with sick kids.

if anyone has found a way to conquer grazing, let me know. advice is most welcome

talk to you later...KathyT

PS-I want to go back to Disney soooooo bad...

Hi Ladies!

How're we doin'? Still feelin' good. Antsy to get on the scale, but afraid because I know it won't be pretty. Three days of the right thing does not a weight loss make for me.

I wasn't able to workout traditionally last night -- we had car issues and I ended up walking to pick up ds, so I did get my hour in, just not on the TM. I'm still counting it! :thumbsup2 My eating was good too, even though I had to punt on the chicken (we didn't have any), I had bagel bites instead and still ended up consuming my exact points total for the day, so I'm happy about that.

Today's food plan:

B - oatmeal & raisins
L - 2 pb half sandwiches on diet bread, 100 cal Ritz, banana
S - 2 Hershey's caramel kisses w/hot tea
D - ? I'm not sure, since the car is up in the air. I'm determined to stick within my points, though!
S - hot tea and 100cal chips ahoy cookies

I'm doing the roundtrip walk to work from the subway, so that's 2.5 mi. I walked for 45 minutes around the office this morning, so I estimate that's another 2. I'm going to do an hour on the TM when I get home, so that should be about 3.7.

I should sleep like a baby tonight! Tomorrow is my long TM walk. I received my first Netflix movie (I joined so I'd always have a new movie for my long walk), Fever Pitch, so that should be fun. I'm going to get to see all the movies my dh would never want to watch, and I would never want to pay for in the theater. It's $9 to see a matinee, so $10/month for as many movies as I can watch one at a time is a bargain for me!

KathyT -- Wow! You have had it rough! :crazy2: I don't have any good advice for grazing, other than to distract yourself. Do something that is incompatible with eating. You can't eat while you're typing. Go on the DIS and find a topic that interests you, then share your opinions all over the place! Do needlework, write a letter (the old fashioned kind), fold clothes, clean out a closet or a drawer, read a really good book, play a board game with those sick kids...I'm full of ideas, now if I would only follow my own advice!

Dona -- So glad to hear your test came back o.k.! We have been worried about you! :grouphug: I know you are going to start to feel like yourself again on a regular basis, and that certainly helps!

Tracy -- How did you like Pilates? I've never tried it, but it looks like a great workout. :goodvibes Glad to hear dh is working steady. That makes life much easier!

Jen -- Not sure what page it's on, but Tara has a great remedy for sore throats somewhere in this thread tea with garlic and honey. It sounds yucky, but she swears by it. :stir:

Tara -- How's that countdown to goal coming? What a great idea!

Linda -- And how's your countdown, just a few more days until your out of the evil meanie classroom! pixiedust:

Kathy -- Are you working nonstop? I know this has to be a very busy time for you. :Pinkbounc

Debra -- How's all that vacation planning coming? You must be getting excited! :figment:

Jean, Haley, Jim and Messie, Regina and everyone else -- Hope you're having a great losing day!

Maria

Dona! Great to hear about the report from doctor!!! So glad it's nothing major and good blood pressure by the way! :) :sunny: I predict sunny skies coming your way!

Maria!! I think babybel's are a great snack!!! WAY TO GO! Sorry to hear about your car and such..but kind of nice to sneak in walking that way  We're here for you when you step on that scale...let out a big "UGH!" and then look in the mirror and give yourself a big HUG and say "NEVER AGAIN!" to that number! :) You may be surprised and not have to do the ugh...that's just what I usually do! :smooth:

KathyT I have such a hard problem with snacking!!! The only thing that helps is to go through a department store and look at smaller sizes then magically my cravings disappear! :) I find if I'm really hungry I need to eat carrots...but if I have a plate of carrots and a bag of cheetos on the table and I could do without the carrots...then I'm not really that hungry I just want those cheetos!! And that's what got me here...so I'm trying to stop that. WE CAN DO IT!!!

schatz...I don't know about license plates but you could do a search for all threads and I'm sure you'll hit some good ideas! :) Good luck to dd! :)

Jen! Glad to hear you're on the upswing...I know this sounds funky but it really worked....pick any hot tea (camomile is good but I use Earl Grey) add 1 tablespoon honey, juice of 1/2 lemon, fresh garlic, ginger (fresh is better but I used powder) and drink! It really zaps that sore throat and makes you feel better pretty quickly!

I had quiche for breakfast, quiche for lunch (leftovers and in a rush so much easier to just hit reheat on the microwave) had 2 mini mini snickers (they're less than an inch square....and a few cashews....will slimfast for dinner...would give my eyeteeth for a big batch of chocolate chip cookies right now...but will avoid! Did buy some new walking shoes and will walk my 4 miles this evening...ready to shape this body up!!!!

Debra? Wanna walk with me?

Tara

Took DD in to doctor again this afternoon. Appearently she's about 80% over her bronchotis, which was actually the beginnings of walking pneumonia. We need to let her take it easy and keep her inside. Hopefully in a week she'll be over this.

Thanks for the snacking feedback. They finally have a project at work, so I'll go in tomorrow. Hopefully they can keep me busy for a while. Downside is that I'll be sitting at a computer for hours. Aargh!

My brother teaches ballroom dance (has for over 10 years now). He said if he took a regular job a this point, there's no way he could stay in shape. SO he keeps on dancin'...

But I digress.

Talk to you all later,
KathyT

That tea sounds ucky, but I'm desperate. I couldn't talk all day. It about killed me.

B: pb toast and cereal (6)
L: mashed potatoes (2)
D: chicken and cheesy potatoes
S: chips and salsa

I am going to go and get some more water...

How much ginger and garlic do I use?? I'm going to have some Sick Tea now...

I've been lurking and not posting as I haven't had much to report.

Tracy - this thread has some Dis plates listed on it. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=951914&page=1&pp=15. I have vanity plates that read WISH MOM. Hope she is able to find some others.

Dona- good job with your stress test and that the problem can be controlled with medication. You'll be exercising again in no time.

KathyT - hope your DD gets weel soon. It is no fun haveing a sick child. Try and work some exercise in daily even it is broken into small segments.

Maria - the TM is calling your name. I find it much easier to walk on it when I have something else to focus on. I prefer the TM's at the gym but don't like watching TV with comercials. I watch the TV with no sound because I prefer to listen to my Ipod. You are still walking and doing great even if it isn't on the TM. My schedule is busy but not totally crazy yet. I have to get better organized so the work doesn't become over-whelming. I am finally dug out from last years lack of being in the office.

Tara - ignore the Cheetos. I had to urge to go to the convenience store and pick up a Take 5 this afternoon but ended up eating carrots and 2 hershey kisses instead. I don't think I wanted the candy bar so much as I needed the break from not going out during lunch the last 2 days and working over 8 hrs each day.

Jen - hope you get feeling better soon.

Linda - how is the exercise going? Hope you next assignment will be more interesting.

I have been eating much better. Still haven't varied food choices much but have maintained much better control over portion sizes. Last night, after measuring out servings, I couldn't eat everything on my plate. I had rice pilaf, cottage cheese and turkey breast steaks. I have started to drink diet sodas again but an still drinking 72 - 80 oz of water each day (except weekends).

Exercise is the only consistent thing I am doing. I am exerising 45 - 60 min per day. i went to teh gym last night and did the strength circuit my trainer set up and came home an rode the bike for 45 min.

Everyone - have a great day tomorrow and remember DRINK LOTS OF WATER.

It has taken a year but I finally did it. I EARNED MY 10 LB CLIPPIE   The scale has shown 168 the last 2 mornings so I feel comfortable changing it. Need to make sure it stays there.

Breakfast - wheat english muffin, dap margarine, .5c oj, c milk

Goals for today : no soda and 80 oz of water
eat within exchange points
bike 45 - 60 min
upper body strength workout

I probably should get headed to work even though I am not motivated. The more I procrastinate, the more work that piles up.

Have a great day.

Let's kick these excess pounds to the curb.

Good Morning All

Thanks for all the kind words. This week has been the best week since the new year. I am starting to feel like my old self. Today is a take it slow day. I have been swamped at school and today there is nothing due. Just go in and teach my classes.

I have been up since 4 this morning after getting a great night sleep (something else that has been a problem since the beginning of the year). I was on my treadmill for 40 minutes (2 miles it's a start) and then did 20 minutes of weights for my arms.

Everyone here has such crazy schedules its a wonder that we get in any exercise at all.

Don't forget to treat yourself right. Everyone here deserves it. Between sick kkids, broken cars and just doing the normal things of life we deserve to treat ourselves right.

Everyone please have 1 hershey kiss for me. I had to give up chocolate because it bothers my pvcs. It is very difficult to go any where these days and not see chocolate. :furious:

Have a good day and may everything go right for you today.

Good Morning All!!

Actually forgot to get on the scale this morning.......must have been a sign because I had chili yesterday and feeling rather bloated. :rotfl:

I did walk on the TM for 22 minutes last night watching American Idol. Need to work on increasing the time.......wow am I out of shape!!

Debra - If I can do 22 minutes so can you!!

REALITY CHECK!!!!! My DH and I were talking last night and it came out that he is only 25 lbs heavier than me. YIKES  :faint: Now he is a foot taller than me - if this isn't enough to motivate I don't know what is!!! ::yes:: ::yes::

NEED TO GET MOVING :moped: :moped: :moped:

Donac - :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Glad to hear the good news. I am sure it has removed POUNDS of stress from your life. ;) \

Kathy - party: party: Party Time!! Congrats to you!! I am still hovering around 171 but plan on catching up to you :cheer2: Question - upright bike at home or recumbent? Been thinking of getting one......would love an ellipitical but can't afford it.

Jen - Hope you are feeling better.......maybe I missed reading the post but what is SICK TEA? pixiedust:

Digimom - your poor DD - here is plenty of pixiedust: pixiedust: hoping that she feels better soon.

Tara - Are we there yet? :moped: Are we moving and losing our way into the 160s? Come on let's kick it into HIGH GEAR!!

Maria - Did you walk last night? I did but not as long as yooooooooou :rotfl: What movie are you watching? Watched American Idol last night and did channel flipping during comercials.

2 MORE DAYS of this assignment :woohoo: Cant wait to go back to regular subbing.

Have a Magical Disney Day!
Linda

Kathy-congrats! That is a great accomplishment. :thumbsup2

Donac-so glad ur tests came back ok. :sunny:

Thanks for the kind thoughts (a couple of pages back) about my mom's passing. It was fairly quick, she found that her cancer (from earlier in 2005) spread to her lungs in late Sept. She passed away 1 week after Thanksgiving (12/1) exactly 9 weeks after she was diagnosed.

It has been tough for me and my family, esp my son who has Asperger Syndrome (a form of autism) as he was really close with her. He asked me yesterday "Mom, everyone says that it won't hurt as much when time passes, but a few months have gone by & my heart hurts just as bad as the day she went to heaven, when won't it hurt as much?" I said "Well, I know that when my dad died a long time ago that it hurts just as much when I think about him as the day he died, but because so much time has gone by (over 18 years) that I don't think of him as often as I used to." Man, talk about tough times!!!

I've been doing great with sticking to my exercise plan, up every day at 4:30am, out to the gym for at least an hour & fifteen mins, so that is good. However, my eating has been horrible, I do great until early afternoon & then all bets are off, so to speak. I'm striving to do better each day, maybe today will be the day I stick it out till dinner!

Good luck with your eating Karen but don't be too hard on yourself. You are going through a very rough time right now and you have to kind to yourself.
