Tracy-
OMG, I don't know whether to laugh or cry while reading your posts! I agree, those fundraising companies need to stop sending me their samples, I'm getting tired of having to eat my way through them all, lol!!! :teeth: Lets hope for a more peaceful day around your house.

Kathy--we ended up not doing the 5K either, the wimps that we are. DS & I were going to, but my heel was acting up prior to the trip so we decided to forgo it this time and concentrate on training properly for a 5K this spring. I did hear some things about the way it was run and they weren't positive. But I'm glad to hear about your 1/2 finish, way to go! :thumbsup2

Tiger Cheer-good attitude and one that I need to learn, one overindulgence shouldn't be a green light for a bad day, hope yours gets better & better! :sunny:

Linda-that would make me keep over in shock, but keeping drinking your water. Love those little Tinks in your post! :woohoo:

Tara-the shoes definitely make a difference, I have a pair of Asics I wear only in my house and another pair only for the gym, you get the picture. When they discontinued my "model" I bought a few pairs of them for a decent price and just love my sneakers.

I had a lousy weekend food & exercise-wise, but was back at the gym today at 4:55am! Did an hour on the Precor elliptical and feel great now. Must have done something right as I was down (as of Sun am) 4 pounds from 222 to 218, headed in the right direction. :)

I watched a cooking show yesterday & have seen it before, they have a website:
http://www.pbs.org/everydayfood/
The recipes yesterday focused on chicken, collard greens and a few other side dishes. I have to say everything looked really good and, for the most part, low fat, IMO. I'm vowing to try at least 1 new entree recipe each week for the next few months-getting tired of the same old, same old!

Goals for this week are to drink my 64 ounces of water each day, exercise 5/7 days this week (1 down) and stick to my eating plan (1500 cals/day 3 serving of dairy, 5 servings of veggies a day) and get to bed early!

Also, forgot about this in my other post, has anyone here ever gone to a TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meeting? Just wondering what your impressions were? There was a newspaper article about it in the past month or 2 & it sounded like a good support group, without the high dues like WW.

I've also been working on some goal setting, which I've heard can be really beneficial to help you achieve what you set out to do. My first long-term goal is to weigh 180 by the time we visit WDW on June 24th. It gives me 5 months (from tomorrow) or a little over 21 weeks to lose 38 pounds which is about a 1.9 lb per week loss.

My second long-term goal is to be 150 (or less) by the time I visit WDW in December 2006. I have slightly over 45 weeks ( I think) to lose a total of 68 pounds.

My first short term goal is to lose 10 pounds by February 28th, 5 weeks from now. It will put me slightly ahead of my first long-term goal and that would be great!

Do others here use these kinds of things as goals, and if so, how have they worked to motivate you? I have pasted a (rather) large photo of myself from this past trip on the inside of my fridge (I take it out before my DH gets home!) and the phrase--"THINK before you eat! Do you REALLY want to look like THIS the next time you walk down Main Street in the MK?" :scared:

That alone is enough motivation to close the fridge & eat some carrots! :teeth:

I think it is all in what you are looking for in a group. I went to one meeting and it wasn't for me. Basically I wanted a 'cheap' place to go and weigh in and be held accountable for my weekly weight lose. I found it to be more of a 'social' group. They were planning a Christmas party and wanting everyone to sign up to bring in different things (I didn't want to sign up because I was just visiting and I didn't know if I wanted to continue--they sort of pressured me to just pick something, and I told them I had to think it over, I didn't go back). They were also picking secret santas....and again, it wasn't what I was looking for.

NOW if I had known all these ladies and were friends with them, I might have enjoyed it. I wasn't looking for that really. I wanted a quick place to go in and out and weigh in and get a little motivation (basically, I wanted Weight Watchers without having to pay for it :rotfl2: ).

I have also been to Overeaters Anonymous and that wasn't for me either. Too depressing for me.

This group has really been the best support I have found. Just knowing I have people to share what is happening and to get a 'hug' :grouphug: when I need it, and to get those cute little clippies for each 5 pounds...that helped motivate me.

But again, you have to figure out what you are looking for and what you need to help you in your journey. We all want to get to the same place, but we don't all have to take the same path.

You could always go and visit and see what you think. I have a feeling each group has its own personality, and you may really like the one you attend.

Question of the day........how can one person go from 172 to 174.5 over night :faint: Thought I had a pretty decent day yesterday. Oh well pushing the water today. TOM coming in a week double faint!!!

Linda

I'm right there with you! I was ready to throw the scales this morning. There is NO reason I should be up 2 pounds, but there it is, right in front of me! It isn't like I ate 7000 extra calories over the weekend! I did have some Oreos, but GESH! What is with that scale!

I am back to getting serious today. I bought some of those 100 calorie bag Oreos in hopes that will curb my Oreo craving.

I am counting calories again and that 2 pounds will be gone by the weekend or else I might just go crazy and just pig out all weekend for spite! (I know, I would only hurt myself--but I am upset over this too, Linda).

So hang in there Linda, Let's stay good all week and I bet those extra couple pounds are gone by the weekend!

Debra

Karen,
I saw your post on the Disney Cruise board asking about DCL. The short answer is Disney Cruises cost more because there are no casinos and because of demand (people are paying the price). We started cruiseing DCL in 2000 and the price has gone up a LOT since there. We are going on our 7th Disney Cruise in 9 weeks and I have number 8 booked for next spring break (2007), but then we are not sure what we are going to do because the cost of the cruise is getting SO high and the cost of my kids are going WAY up (kids activities/sports/field trip/etc. cost more once they hit middle school and from what I learned on the Budget Board it gets even more expensive in High School which scares the ba-gee-bers out of me! :guilty: ).

Anyway, Maria just went on the Disney Cruise recently, and I am getting ready for ours. You can PM me if you have questions. I have been on all of them (3, 4 and 7 day western and eastern).

Debra

Debra-
thanks for the info! I really wasn't sure why they were so much more, but from the responses I received people really love to cruise with them, that is good to hear. Plus I wasn't thinking of just 2 ships opposed to a a bigger fleet with other lines. We'll still consider it but think we'll have to stick just going to WDW 3xs this year, big sacrifice, lol! :)

Today was busy to the hilt!

I went to school early (like up at 5:45 out the door by 6:45) for practice (I help "coach" the quiz team) and made some people not too happy...but I can't impress everyone so :p on them.

B: egg with ham, 2 slices Natural White with Whole Wheat toast (plain), and a slightly mushy clementine. (5)

L: :sad2: uff da. I had a soyburger (they aren't cheeseburgers!) and fries. (10)

Then I had cheerleading clinic! The little girlies are picking up very fast. They make me laugh and they've come so far!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Earned four activity points

Then I had play practice. Not the best but not the worse.

And due to my sleepiness, I was in a duh/blonde moment kind of phase. Like "WOOOOOOOOOO!" all day long. Fun, eh?

S: I was really proud of my snack choices today. I had two tomatoes, a handful of baby carrots, a PB and J and a 100 cal pack of sandies (6)

D: Not sure. :stir: Dad's cooking tomato soup though...

Water: 40 ounces, including the bottle I chugged at practice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two out of three meals isn't bad right? I'm fighting the "three letters" this week and next. I'm going to be a little short on the temper stick this week... :furious: ! hope not!!! I can control it. I will, anyway. There is a tub of frosting that is calling my name, but ya know what? I'm not listening!
Good morning fellow losers.
I have good news and bad news. The bad news is I ATE 6 TAKE 5 CANDY BARS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.
The good news is the scale showed a .4 lb loss this morning. Must be I shocked my system.
Have already done 45 min on the treadmill this morning. Need to be out of the house soon for an 8 am appt with nutritionist. i have to get my eating in control. I lack in the dairy product and protein depts. Since I am only cooking for one now, it is easier to grab a garbage snack rather than fix a balanced meal.
ETA - my snacks for today are carrots and cauliflower NOT CANDY BARS.
Well check back in later.
morning all!! :sunny:
Windy windy windy :cold: :cold: Headed your way!!!
Lost one of the mystery pounds.......down to 173.5 - need to get back to 172. Now TOM is coming next week and this is the week my body goes haywire so hoping that will help.
I INTRODUCED MY SELF TO MY TREADMILL LAST NIGHT!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :rainbow: Lasted 20 minutes at 2.9 which is NOTHING compared to what some of you are capable of BUT I am happy I finally was able to get on. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Tonight will go walking with my gfs at the mall.
Jen - Sounds like you are holding your own against your body :thumbsup2 Keep it up!! You will PREVAIL!!
Debra - Did we have a NO OREO day? :mickeyjum :mickeyjum Bet you feel good right now :cool:
welovedis - LOVE your goals = you can do this!! :cheer2: I tend to follow Debra's lead and stick with small goals. Right now I need to lose 2 lbs by next wednesday to make my 5 lb goal for the month. Come WE CAN DO THIS :cheer2: :grouphug:
Schatz - LOVE reading your posts!! You have a gift of putting a comic spin on life :rotfl: The memories you are gaining are worth every moment of your crazy life. Hope your pipes are better. :rotfl:
Off to have some coffee :coffee: and get my day going. Still in the same 3/4 yr old preschool room as an assistant. They tell me this subbing assignment could last another month. Steady work for me and I get to wear jeans!!!
Have a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda
Linda-
Thanks! I hope working on these goals and seeing them in print in front of me will really pay off. Sounds like you have a neat job working with kids too! I run a small daycare center which is attached to my home and love that I can wear yoga pants and a fleece hoodie & not look out of character here, lol! :) Awesome about the TM, it is really tough at first, pretty soon you'll be surprised how fast you're going & using the incline if you have it too. :cool1:
Kathy-good luck with the nutritionist, they can make all the difference in the world. Forget about those candy bars, maybe they shocked your system but they are in the past, you're leaving them behind..... :moped:
Was at the gym again today @ 5am for some weight work and then that dreaded 45 min spin class. I bought a gel seat cover & that helped, but it is still hard for me. Sometimes when she said "Kick it up a half turn & another quarter turn" I cheated & only did the half or so, but at least I'm finishing the class & not dead!
Hope everyone has a great day, I am thrilled that I got thru ONE cheat free day so far---that is an accomplishment for me, probably not a big deal to most here though. Here's hoping I can make it 2 in a row! :goodvibes
Actually, I sometimes wish we had never gone on the cruise either. We fell in love with it SO much that we feel 'deprived' if we don't go once a year. My kids would pick the cruise hands down over WDW (and we love WDW).
The price is getting crazy though, and I just don't see us being able to afford it with all the new expenses that are coming up now that the girls are in middle school (sports costs, fields trips, "certain" clothes, etc.).
I am thinking of trying to go to every other year---but it is so hard! We are also considering going to the 3 night (but the 4 night is SO much better).
So anyway......save yourself! Don't go and then you will never know what you missed and will save yourself a bundle of money!
Linda,
I am feeling that COLD! The wind is really picking up out there. So far we have only had one little snow for January and they aren't predicting any significant snow before the end of January--so I am thrilled with this month so far!
Hey! I lost 1 of my 2 pounds this morning too. I am still angry at my scales because I just don't think it should have gone up 2 pounds over the weekend!
I didn't have any Oreos yesterday, but I did have 2 Girl Scout Trefoils (the sugar cookies). But I kept my calories to the 1200 range, so that was alright.
Good for you getting on the treadmill. I keep telling myself in February I need to do that so I am in shape in March for our Disney Cruise vacation!
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Linda, maybe tomorrow we will both be back to where we started.
Debra
Good morning. You guys are very inspiring and so last night I went and bought a treadmill. I hate walking in the cold. I just can't do it so I bought one. I told my husband that I wanted one for Christmas and he said we could get onebut we haven't done it so far. So yesterday on my way home from school I went and looked at one. THey didn't have any in the back so I took the floor model and they gave me 25% off the sale price. That paid for a 3 year service contract. It should be in the house before the weekend and I can't wait.
Yeah, that is what I'm worried about, wanting to continue going & going! I think we'll end up doing a longer cruise in 2007 rather than trying to tack it on to the Dec trip--it would be too much I think.
I know what you mean about cost though, I found a cost analyis online of the price increase on DCL compared to other lines and it was really high. But so many people say it is something that cannot be compared to the other cruise lines so we'll have to try it as some point! :teeth:
If only we could keep those kids little longer!
Hi fellow losers.
When I got home from the gym yesterday, DH who is still laid off told me the Roto Rooter man was coming at 10. Yup he pulled in at 10 and left at 4:30. I began to think I was going to have to include him on our dinner plans. Of which I had none since I couldn't use the water. So now things are flowing smoothly again. YAY :banana: :banana:
I stayed away from the ole Gertrude Hawks all day yesterday. YAY,, but I had an Arby's roast beef for dinner. Tonight is a bette choice with baked chicken. So I'm blaming my falling off the good food wagon on the plumber. If he would not have taken so long on the pipes I could have had baked chicken last night.
Am working at the gym this evening so I will work out than. I think I have 50 minutes more to meet my exercise challange, so I'll get that done.
I had a bowl of Honey Bunches of oats and a fat free yogurt for breakfast. no mid morning snack as I had a meeting with the pricipal at school, lunch was 3 celery sticks with peanut butter and a pack of 100 calorie oreo's. I think DH being home and not working is causeing me stress because I am craving chocolate.
I tried keeping busy, by finishing up a Travel Agent course I'm taking, but my kids just got new workbooks and they all want to do them NOW, so needless to say I was unable to concentrate.
Kathy, please share with us some words of wisdom that you get from the nutritionist. I have gotten in all the water and am still trying to do the small meals every 3 hours thing.
Will post from the gym after my workout.
Oh. My. Absolute. GOSH!!!!!!!! Today was like the best eating day ever!
B: one egg with ham (2) and two cups of cereal (4)
L: one chicken "fajita" sub (4)
S: two tomatoes, twelve baby carrots, and six crackers with a smidge of PB on each :) :woohoo: :woohoo:
No frosting, thank goodness. My body is screaming "healthy foods" today!
In gym today, we had to do the beginning stages of the Pres. Fitness Test along with the usual warm ups! I am PROUD to say that I "jogged" two and a half laps around the gym :) out of five :woohoo: :yay: and did jumping jacks and situps and pushups (which are a lot easier with a smaller tummy)and did stretches. We had to do the arm bar hang today-I couldn't even get up on the chin up bar all the way! But I pulled a monkey for two seconds-two seconds longer than last year.
Water is good: 24 ounces
Exercise: walked home and back twice...and gym (i am so PROUD!)
Tomorrow is going to be another one of those busy days...and :cheer2: clinic!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
:cheer2: We won't give in!
:cheer2: We won't give in!

:cheer2: Never give up
:cheer2: NEVER give in! (okay...sometimes)
:cheer2: Fight to win!

hi all.

pulling my shift at the gym. Worked out, met my exercise goal. YAY. The owner of the gym is hiring a personal trainer who teaches piliates. I really want to go to that class. I need to be stretched about 6 inches would be good. I would still be heavy, but I wouldn't have as much to loose. I'm only 5'3" and 1/3. My DH (Dave) dropped me off today, and as I was getting out my son Christopher asked why I worked here anyway. My other son Jonathan(gotta love this kid) says "so mommy can loose her big butt, than he gives a giggle. This kid comes out with some stuff, I'll tell ya. Now he was right, and he wasn't saying it disrespectfully, just matter of factly. This is the same kid, who the other night at dinner burped. And when DD Ellissa asked him about it, he says "What..I'm a man and I burped". He is turning 5 in March but he thinks he's 20. I was going to post a picture of my family so that you all knew I was talking about, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Send some pixie dust my way. Dh is still out of work.

The school the AF Reserves wants him to go to in Orlando is having the class he needs in May, August and October. So we are trying to pick a good date. Any suggestions. If he does the one in May, he will be down there a week before me, so I would have to drive myself down. Doable but not desirable. but he would not be losing so much time off of work, when he goes back that is.

Ok, someone wants some info...

Happy losing

Shoot!

S2: 10 tortilla chips
D: 4 bites of ribs, 5 bites of a potato, 12 nachos

Not too bad! I'll probably snack on veggies/fruits the rest of the night and drink water...snack until 8:15 anyway!

I had my meeting with the nutritionist this morning. My original reaction was it was going to be a waste of time, but once we got talking I changed my mind. She did an evaluation of body type, asked about current fluid intake, current food intake and any limitations on exercise.

For body type - she says I am large boned. I always thought I was medium boned but what do I know. I know that no matter how much I exexcise and tone, my shoulders will never get narrower. As far as toning my body, the place needing the most help is the abdomen. That is where I carry all my excess weight. I have been told by numerous health care providers, I carry my extra weight well.

She has set up a 2000 cal per day meal plan (assuming I keep exercising at least 45 min per day) to lose weight. She is not the first person that has told me the only way I would be able to lose weight is by eating more. 2000 cals sounds like an awful lot of food to me. Even yesterday when I ate almost 1500 cal of candy bars, I barely made it to 2000 cal. The plan is split up into the 3 main meal and 3 snacks. it will probably be a pain at first to make menus to meet the guidelines she has set up. Here is a breakdown of the calorie distribution: 1000 cal carbohydrates, 600 cal protein, and 400 cal fat. Definatgely not low carb.

Fluid intake - I thought I was doing well by increasing my fluids to 64 oz per day with most of it being water. :drinking1 :drinking1 She said to shoot for 84 oz per day or half my fully clothed w/shoes body weight. I guess it will also give me more exercise per day getting up to fill my cup and extra trips to the ladies room (which is down the hall from my office).

She suggested I take up swimming as an additional form of exercise incase the peoblems I am currently having with my feet restrict my walking hours. I have had tendonitis in the top of my left foot for years. During the half marathone, my right foot decided to get in on the act. It felt much better until I spent an hour on the stationary bike last week and then ran on it over the weekend. It didn't feel too bad while on the treadmill this morning but ached most of the day. The pain in the right foot is more off to the side rather than on the top. Maybe it is caused by wobbly ankles. It won't slow me down too much until it gets so bad I can't stand it. She also wants me to add in 2 or 3 days of strength training and do some solid ab work.

The meal plan is set up using the food exchange system used by diabetics. I will have to put a plan together for next week to see how it works. We will see what happens after following the meal plan for a week.

I will keep you posted on how I am doing and whether it really works. She wants me to come in for a follow up in 6 weeks. She also gave me her phone number and email address in case I have any questions or concerns. I can utilize her expertise am much or as little as I want.

Enough babbling. If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me and I will answer to the best of my ability. Need to hit the sack so I can get my 45 min on TM in before work tomorrow.
