14 Happy Meals? Really?

I wouldn't do drive thru for a large complicated order just because I find it difficult to communicate with the speaker and would rather give my order in person in the restaurant.

14 happy meals :scared1:. Eww I would be more concern of health than the time of ordering.

Do you really think all 14 happy meals are for only 1 or 2 kids? I would say it is highly unlikely. Maybe she was ordering for the MoM or MOPS group or has a bunch of family visiting and wanted a quick meal for the kids..etc.

Offensive? Really? I don't see that as offensive at all. In a lot of cases it is the truth. If anyone should be offended it should be me. Since we are a family of 7 some are saying we shouldn't even dare use a drive thru. :surfweb:
To claim that you can order for your family of seven faster than someone can order for two adults can order, unless those two adults have never been to that chain before, is offensive - and unrealistic.

I do that when I'm running errands and need my caffeine fix but don't feel like standing in line inside. If the drive thru line is long I just enjoy listening to Pandora or the radio.

I have to chime in to say that McDonald's has great fountain soda! :thumbsup2 Atleast the one I frequent does. I will often go through just for their caffeine-free diet Coke. And often, if it's busy, they'll give me my drink right through the first "pay" window and bypass the "food" one all together. :goodvibes

I guess I just always saw the drive-thru for food orders. Just want to be clear that that doesn't mean I don't think you should order your drinks there, I wouldn't want to get this thread any more heated than it already is

Do you think the person was eating all 14 of them themself?

I was just thinking of what we usually order when we go through the drive-thru. We are a family of 5, and usually have a friend or 2 with us, and its not a complicated order but we usually get a couole of mocha frappes, so it takes a bit longer than normal. Maybe next time I'll just order 6 #2's. Of course that equals 12 cheeseburgers so I'm not sure if that is listed as acceptable in The Drive Thru Etiquette Handbook, maybe someone could check your copy for me :)

I hate the drive-thru.

They always get the order wrong, and I hate eating in the car.

As for it being an "express line", I never felt that way. In fact, there have been many times where the drive-thru lane is longer than going inside.

You know all about me from one post, amazing!

Huh? Where in my post did I say I know anything about you? I said that "I hope" you don't work in customer service. I then when on to ask you questions. Questions that you didn't bother answering. Instead you came back with some old played out retort that wasn't even accurate and did nothing but show that you never even read the post you were referencing.

Jump to extremes much? Sorry, if you ever read posts by the poster who went to Taco Bell, you would understand that she has a higher than average bad experience everywhere. Who knows what the Taco Bell employee said, as it could have been advising the poster that she could call ahead to decrease wait time. As for your opinion that time of day doesn't matter, say the poster went to Taco Bell at 11:45pm and this location closes at Midnight, they were already down on staff to get ready to close. Much different than say getting there at 7 pm and the place going to be open for hours beyond.

You are taking this way too personal, why do you care about it so much?

Do I? Not really. When I was in the drive through, I didn't doddle, I knew exactly what I needed, and it was no more for them to do versus them having a line of people at the drive thru--which there wasn't. It wasn't a bunch of different things--it was multiples of the same things-soft tacos, crunchy tacos cheese only, and nachos/cheese--no brain surgery. I was preparing to be patient since it was a large order, but he got hostile on me. If I must go into logistics... it was probably about 11:30pm and they were open until 3. Was Taco Bell my choice--no--it was the choice of the person paying and I was just the runner. AKA the nice person who was trying to do a favor for some friends. Yeesh.

I was cracking up thinking about this thread when I saw two people practically get into a fist fight in the McDonalds drive thru today at lunchtime. :lmao: I was next in line after the people, so I could clearly hear everything that was going on. It was one of the drive thrus with two ordering lanes and this woman pulled up, shouted her order at the speaker, and then pulled away without waiting to be given her total, and just about rammed the car next to her (that had already ordered and pulled half way into the single car lane to pay. The two people (a middle aged mom with kids in her car and a guy in his 20's in a suit) actually got out of their cars and started screaming at each other until the people behind them started honking to get the heck out of the way. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen. The guy was totally in the right - he was first in line - but to actually get out of your car and start yelling at the other person? Yikes.

If ordering your lunch causes that much stress, I think it's time to start packing a sandwich. :rotfl:

Oh, and the only reason I was there today was because of this darn thread! I'd been craving a McChicken all day!

Sometimes I think it depends on the attitude of the customer. I have no idea what the attitude of the poster was. Having said that, if an employee is behaving unprofessionally, that's not acceptable either.
You are right about that. The attitude of the customer can often times set the mood. Having worked customer service for many years, if you come in looking for a fight, you are often times going to find one. Come in with good attitude and people are more likely to help anyway they can and go out of the way for you.

Nope, don't recall other posts by the Taco Bell poster. Unlike others, I tend to forget poster's stories from one post to the next. I don't hoard the knowledge then throw it in their face at the first opportunity. (Not that you are, but I have seen it done around here more times then I can count).

So, since I have no background knowledge on the poster, I took her words at face value.

No, not taking this personal at all. I don't work at a fast food restaurant and actually never have. The people that I know who have, haven't done so in over 20 years, so no dog in this fight. Just think it's hysterical how certain people seem to think that the world has to live by their imaginary set of rules, codes and morals. :rotfl:

If there is a sign that says "no more then X items to be ordered at drive thru" then I would be all for backing it up and enforcing it and calling those the don't adhere to it lazy idiots for not going inside and disregarding the stores rules. That is not the case here though. There is no rule. Just the one people are making up in their heads.

I'm sorry but the idea that you should "call ahead at taco bell" is the funniest thing I've ever heard.

And just how far in advance should I call? A week, a few days, a few hours. Should I call now for my order for next monday?

I don't know you from a whole In a wall, but honestly don't bother. Don't let the judgy mcjudgypants on these boards get to you.

TOO funny! (and crazy!)

Ok so I worded it wrong. 14 happy meals, way too many not to mention, special order happy meals.. sorry, but I don't think it is polite to make everyone behind me wait for 14 meals. And no, ours wouldn't make you pull out of line for that.
but it's ok if you go inside? gotcha....

This is too funny..you have also yet to dictate what you have determined is an acceptable number of orders. So what is that magical number?

You are seem utterly incapable of understanding she would NOT NOT NOT be waiting at that window until all 14 orders were done and handed to her. Your precious time would not have been impacted anymore than the person who ordered whatever you deem an acceptable amount in one order. If you could maybe understand that you might realize how your posts are coming across.
I agree this is hilarious....

I think the Jacka... movies should do a segment on this....go to various drive thru's a place large orders just to piss people off!

the drive thru is for conveinence not speed. I always have a special order, I want a fresh burger, not one under the warmer!

$94 worth of food at a Taco Bell is a pretty large order.

No rule that says anyone has to call ahead to Taco Bell, but knowing that I'm placing such a large order, I might call just to give them a heads-up. Might speed up the process a bit.

Good for you, but I know that I would never call ahead to a fast food place. And the poster said she had no notice. It would honestly never cross. Y mind to call ahead.

The only place I would call in an order would be a pizza place, and that justs SOP for a pizza place.

Just a thought.

Seriously? I think the poster abused the drive thru with that order. $94 at Taco Bell is a very big order for them to handle. Better question is what time of day or night did this poster order the food at? Many fast food places reduce staff as it gets later into thevening/night.

It shouldnt matter what time of day/night it was...if they are open they need to provide food, now they could have informed her that it might take a little longer due to decrease staffing, but they should fill the order and be glad they got the business...that is why they are in business!!!

well, after the firs 2 pages, I jumped to the end to make my comment.

Fast food drive thrus are for express service, just like at the Bank.

The is a BIG difference between placing large orders in the drive thru and large orders at the counter.
At the counter, you place your order and then stand over to the side, waiting for your #/name to be called. That way the person at the register can keep taking orders. It doesn't slow the process down for everyone else. And you can carry out the drinks and take your time at figuring where you are going to place the 14 drinks.

In the drive thru, there is a few options.
1. The person told you to go park and we will bring the food out to you. This slows down the service for everyone else because they loose a worker for about 10-15minutes. And will typically piss off the drive thru team because it increases their customer wait time (from order to delivery) and it also reduces their volume per hour.

2. They hold up the entire Drive thru line. This pisses off everyone behind the current customer. And will typically piss off the drive thru team because it increases their customer wait time (from order to delivery) and it also reduces their volume per hour.

So, don't be lazy, order inside. If you are eating at McDonalds, you most likely need the workout.

Maybe the workers need to quit being pissed off and do their JOB!!!! Be glad people are spending their money there. It keeps the place open and keeps the workers employed!

I think some people need to go to Business 101 class.

Holy moly!!

When I enter a drive-thru, I always just assume that I am taking my chances on how long I will be there. If I am in a hurry, my problem. Not everyone else's problem in line.

Having said that, if I have a big order, I always go inside. I would love to say that I go inside because I am, of course, only thinking of the other hard working, "in a hurry" folks. BUT, alas, is is not true. I just assume that the more items I order, the more likely they are to screw it up. :lmao: I want to check each bag before I leave and it is easier to fix inside. I would quote Leo Getz from Lethal Weapon 2 at this point, but it is highly inappropriate for a family site.

While I agree that poster shouldn't let others' opinions affect what she does - and definitely not what she did, unless someone has a time machine - I think using childish terminology in a conversation among adults makes one appear immature.
