We went through this horrible roller coaster over a 10 year period. 2 of my husband's brothers had cancer. Both fought hard but in the end it was just too hard.
I would wait until she's ready. She might be trying to get herself together.

I can't believe this is happening... Just a few weeks ago the news was SOOOO good! How can this happen?

I hate this disease so much. I have lost two family members in the last two months, from breast cancer and lung cancer. It is insidious because my cousin (breast cancer) was told everything looked good, and just 3 months later it had spread to her brain, spine, etc.
I think you should wait a few days and let this sink in for you (and your friend), and then maybe give her a call. I would just be honest about it and tell her how you found out this latest bad news. It is never the wrong thing to tell someone you care and are thinking about them. I'm sorry.

Why don't you call her and not bring it up? If you are good friends, it won't seem odd for you to call. A friendly voice is always a good thing...and the distraction might be welcome.

If she's ready to talk about it, she will. If she doesn't share it with you, don't take it personally. She just might be taking some time to come to terms with it herself. When people find out they're dying, every reaction is normal. Some run around telling everyone, some tell only those they are close to, some don't tell anyone at all for quite a while.

She may be reaching the point where she is deciding whether or not she wants to keep fighting. That's a tough decision. But when the decision is made, the person is a little stronger, a little more prepared for whichever way they decide to go.

It is unfair. I'm so sorry you're going through this.
