To make a roast in mine I just put carrots/onions/potatoes in there, add the roast, some water, salt, pepper, garlic granules, cover it and let it cook.

how much water or liquid and what kinds can we use?

You can use any liquid. Cream soups like mushroom or celery, stock or just water. I use water for roast, about half way up the pot after the stuff is in there. Crockpots are really very forgiving and nothing has to be exact, except the cake recipe that Lisa posted. I made that and I think you would have to measure ingredients for that.

You can make really good chili in the crockpot too. Yum! I'm getting hungry. I may get mine out tomorrow and see what I can come up with.
