12/09/06 Cruise Continued ~ Pirating Bananas DIS Geekorama Part 2 Part 2

We got one shirt today (they sent 2 packages and only one showed up today)... it was DS's, he usually wears medium shirts but I bought his in large so it would be comfy, well the shirt was SO big on him, it ended up fitting DD who usually wears adult medium shirts. I'm scared now about how our shirts will fit... I bought true to size for the rest of us but I hear they are made big. And to top it off they're Preshrunk so not much hope in washing and shrinking them. :guilty:

DH just made a choice for us. :cheer2:  It's about time. Anyway I asked him what we should do after the cruise. I laid out the options, car rental to the space stuff or the airport. DCL tranfures to the airport, or back to WDW for lunch at dtd and some last min shopping and stuff, or we could get town service wherever. He said If I were you I would get a driver. We could do lunch and shopping if you like.  So now I have to look into prices. I was thinking the bus back as I was told they would take our laugage to the airport for us. Then we could catch the shuttle from the resort to the airport. Maybe we will walk around the boardwalk and resort hop. (I DID NOT SAY POOL HOP) I would like to see what the other resorts look like. To bad we won't be on the dining plan still but oh well.

Church? what church? I'm confused now......

Brack did you know there's a DIS meet in Frederick next Saturday, 29th 3pm at Barley & Hops near the FSK Mall. RSVP to the thread on the meets board if you're interested.

Although my appointment now is administrative in nature (CFO) my DW and I are ordained ministers in The Salvation Army. The Army is a church that was started in London over 135 years ago. We have a church in "Fredneck". It also seems that to get to any of the others in western Maryland and West Virginia I have to go through "Fredneck"!

I am in Norfolk next weekend but I would love to meet up in the future. Thanks for telling me.

DCL said that their bus will take you to the resorts for $30 per person. (however i don't know if they would transfer your luggage to airport and you somewhere else considering current security issues and such)

I'm not sure how much a shuttle from Disney back to the airport would be considering DME would not be free since you won't be checked in to a Disney resort at that point. Driving back from the port is cake....(you can follow us)
It would probably be cheaper just to do a one day rental with National, Avis, or Budget.

Rain, rain, rain here off and on all day today here. At least the heat has subsided for now . . .

I had to call DD today because we didn't get our shirts yet, and DW couldn't remember if she got an email confirmation or not. Sure enough, stuff is on the way and due to arrive on the 25th.

Been spending the weekend training the dog with the underground fence - she is really smart and it has worked great! :dog2: Now we can play ball in the backyard with her and wear her out . . . BUT she still wants to come in and counter surf!

DS was home from college too for the weekend. He thinks mom and dad are real nerds with all of their DIS friends on this cruise. :clown:

Joy,

Best idea yet!

Anyway, we can have several people bring their laptops to the wine and cheese get together, and transfer the DIS group photos to everyone's USB drive. Much easier than CD's, and also as Joy said, much quicker.

What do you think?

John

It is a great idea! I'm ready.

this USB thing - is this similar to a laynard thing college students carry around now-a-days to do presentations in class?

Yes. My DW keeps hers on her keychain. It is very useful to transfer files between computers. They come in many sizes and are relatively cheap.

Has anyone done the galley tour? When does everyone sign up for the various activities? Are there any like Palo where you need to sign up immediately or are you able to join at the last minute?

We did this on our last cruise. It was really worth it. I don't think we had to sign up right away but I would do it as soon as possible. There were a lot people on the tour.

Hey brack where will you be in fredneck tomorrow?

The Salvation Army church downtown on West 5th Street. They have new Officers appointed there and we are going to welcome them.

Not quite sure where that is but i park my car during the day on east 3rd.

I work a couple blocks away on E Church St. (Church is south of 2nd st)

We live north of the city off of rt 15.

ok i googled it and i know sorta where it is. Not the greatest part of town.

The church is a block off Bentz St which if you followed it north (but you can't because it's one-way south at that point) turns into Opossumtown Pike. We live aprox 2 miles past the intersection of Opossumtown and rt 15.

(Frednecks pronounce Opossumtown as just possumtown)

I take I70 to the city and exit on to Market Street. I go into downtown and turn left on 5th Street. The church is about four blocks away.

You got it. Most of our churches are in this kind of setting. It is where we belong. The Founder, William Booth, used to say "Go for souls and go for the worst."

Time to get things ready for tomorrow. Have a good night all.

This will be our third time at Fantasmic. :) The first time we wondered in & were seated in the 2nd row center by a CM who lead us from the back of the stands. :) Last time it was OK...we did the package then too. It sounds like we aren't going to get to see the lights this year either then. :( Are we really missing out?

Lisa, We did the wishes cruise to see the lights. they take you out on a boat, pipe the music in, give you drinks and treats and you watch them on the lake. It is incredible. It was $200 for the boat and you could take 15 people.

John I also have a .mac account and could do a part II photocast, giving us 198 pictures to share,

John, I could pack a firewire cable and we can share burning duties really easily then. :thumbsup2

Would this be a good enough justification to order that MacBook I covert? (I wish the new Pro came in 12" like the old powerbook). I could always lug my Power Mac G5 on board and render some serious files! :rotfl: I've been waiting until WWDC next month to see what new toys will appear but gee, this might be what tips the scales? Hmm - :scratchin

The rumors around the shop are about a macbook pro processor power bump up. Then the possible new nano (coloured cases like the mini) options in October. They will not change too much until the back to school promo clears out the current stock.

I can't stand flip flops for me...the thing between your toe thing & the noise that they make drives me nuts. If I am wearing a dress...I'm going to wear the shoes to go with it. ;)

Thanks Heavens! I thought I was the only person on the planet that felt that way.

Also a tip for all you survey people. I am on the national board of directors for the Marketing Research Association. There are about 7 major "panel creators". This means, companies who recruit people to to do surveys on-line, via web t.v.'s, phone, diary and scanning. The very legit ones like A.C. Nielsen will randomly recruit you and then pay you for doing surveys in your specific demographics. Others will maintain a "panel" or group of people and companies can buy access to your e-mail address. The company who recruited you will send you the survey invitation, but it could be from a different company every time. Childrens data is EXTREMLY protected by law. If you have a company asking your children to do surveys, they should ALWAYS have written permission from the parent to do the survey, the parents should be able to listen and watch every transaction and thier should NEVER be any specific information about your child other than maybe age category attached to it. If you have to give any information about your children other than age category be very wary. Many are legit, but be careful. If you find one you would like to do, just pmail me and I will send it to the legal department who can verify if the are legitimate. If they are not, we can help get them out of business. Sorry this was so serious, it's just that I take this stuff very seriously, especially where children's privacy is concerned.
