That does seem like an aweful lot of money. Our HS band is going in the spring for a week and they each need like $500. Do they do any fundraising to help defer the cost?
Our 4 day band trip to Disneyland was $700 per person, but it was SOOOO worth it. Most fun we have had at DL in a long time.

Editing to add that there are alot of costs that one does not have on a family trip. We had transportation from the school to the airport (30 miles each way), chartered bus from LA Airport to DL so that the whole group stayed together, both ways, a rental truck to take the equipment from the hotel backstage for the practice session and again for the performance, breakfast each day was included, $15 in Disney dollars for each day that the kids could use for food, airfare, hotel and 4 day hopper passes.

There were a couple of fund raisers to defray costs.

Good Morning! What time are we gathering around the river? :lmao:

The news this morning sounded pretty good to me although I am sorry to hear about your school levy John and the lame duck sessions. :( The minimum wage proposition here in Missouri passed and that is the one I am most concerned about. DH is really worried and he is convinced we are going to have to move to another state. Does anyone want to find us jobs in your state? ;)

Hum....Rachel Ray is making Italian Chicken Pot Pie....do you think it wil have a crust? I have the news on now.

Hmmm...she is making pizza here with Tim Allen. :confused3

Here is my sister's dog Pixie (dust) a couple days before she had her puppy. Keep in mind she is a chihuahua and weighs less than 5 pounds although she looks huge here.

Here is the puppy. Pixie has the same star on her head and the "socks".

She also has these white markings on her chest. I am surprised he has them too!

Are you a Republican? :faint:

OK,

Didn't want to bring politics into the board, but guess what her DH is?

Yeah, it starts with the letter D.

So, we are more fair and balanced than Fox.

I will tell you, no matter how we are registered, we both vote for the best candidates, and rarely disagree on that. I vote for some R's, she votes for some D's.

The big exception was the last Presidential election - DS and I spent some quality time together in the safehouse.

ROFL! DH & I don't talk politics. IDK if that means he agrees with what I say or knows not to dispute it. :confused3 :lmao:

I'd offer Oregon, but things won't be much better here. :confused3

Everyone at our house is a bit to the right of center, even though we live on the left coast and work in one of the most L cities. We also believe that we always vote for the best candidate (I know that I do!) . :lmao: :lmao: :thumbsup2

John, this sucks! And of course they will most likely blame the human faces on the the School Board and forget that it was the people of the district who made the choice. I hope the changes are taken by the citizens with the level of responsibility that they should be.

And maybe more parents who believe in the levy will get involved with campaigning for the next vote, if they each talk to two non-parents I am sure that it would have a much better chance of passing. It has to be parents who share their hopes for their children's education that spread the message of all the good that they levy will do.
I get the feeling that you have done a good information campaign about what the levy could have done for the schools, but more soldiers never hurt a cause.

Pj

I am so so frustrated, but am beginning to feel like all I do is complain . . .

Thank you to everyone for your kind words, PD, and prayers, and for all of you in tough personal situations, V, slindamood, et. al. you have the same from me.

What is unfair is children have no say in this - a bunch of people with no children, and no regard for the children of their community have made this decision. The future for them is all contained in their own purses.

I start to think that EVERYTHING I am involved in is problems and heartache.

If when I show up at the port, they start telling people "I'm sorry, but we made a mistake and now you cannot cruise" you will know it is me . . .

I have to drown my sorrows tonight . . .

Can you say CHEEEEETAH?

Yeah, tonight we get to go see the Cheetah girls . . .

One extreme to the other.

I'm guessing there will not be any adult beverages at the Cheetah Girls tonight....

But maybe Sophia's smile and excitement will help a bit.

We just passed a minimum wage Constitutional Amendment. It applies to 16 year olds! ACK! All the High School kids that work for us are going to get a HUGE raise January 1! We currently pay above minimum (5.90 to start, .75 above minimum) the new minimum is $6.85!

That is a 17% increase!

Like I needed this to deal with too!

John1

John, you have every right to complain about that!!! You are trying to do the best for those kids & the voting public just keeps putting up barriers that keep you from doing that. :( It is so sad! They had a hard time passing one of those here a few years ago. After 3 tries it finally passed. They needed to build a new elementary school. The old one was terrible....mold & the like. :(

Be sure to take your ear plugs tonight! Hope Sophia has a great time! :woohoo:

That is ONLY for the kids??? So a 40 yo starting would make the 5.90 but a 16 yo would make 6.85????

Yeah - guess that might not work for some of you....but I'm tired of the boxers running around my house. Fortunately, I had on the "I mean business" face so my boys wouldn't even dare think of regressing to NO UNDERWEAR!! I've been welcomed by PJs every night now!!
