Hey Nana's!

Have any of you guys watched a shuttle launch from cape Canaveral before?

We're trying to decide whether we should arrange our schedule so we can watch the shuttle Discovery go up on Dec. 4.

Decisions, decisions??

That is a great honor , not many every receive their entire lives how could you even think of such a terrible thing!!!


I could see the shuttle 8 seconds after launch form my house and once while on the ship we saw an atlas missle launch from deck 10 about 2 hours after boarding the Magic. Yes it was really neat to see, but not worth changing a cruise over.
Besides they change the date all the time, so right up to the last minute you never know if it will go up or not.

Sorry, I didn't mean to set off any alarm bells.....just yet!

Chances are we won't change anything because its kind of up in the air as to when the shuttle will actually launch.

I've been going over launch statistics for December and its kind of a toss up as to whether it will launch on time or be delayed?

You guys have to understand though.....I am a huge aviation enthusiast!!

If I were that close to Cape Canaveral and missed a shuttle launch it would probably kill me!! (ok, so maybe it wouldn't kill me, but I'd be extremely disappointed!)

Good Morning, Ok Here is my first attempt at a trip report.


Thursday April 10th-We wake up bright and early to get to the airport. I feel a bit of sore throat (more on this later) so I pop a couple motrin and hope for the best. By the time we get to the airport I am feeling better DH and I are sitting at the airport and up walks a friend of mine who I worked with 18 years ago and we also went to hygiene school together. We have not seen each other in a long time. We were inseparable during our college days. It was really good to see her and catch up. Her family was on the same flight as us. It was a nice way to start our vacation. Of course I did not take a picture.


We landed in Orlando by 10:00. What is the first thing I see??? A Disney Cruise Line Bus. Oh how I wished we were cruising.

We met up with Johns parents and they drove us to Cocoa Beach. We got to the Condo and unpacked all of our stuff. Then we headed to Florida Sea Food Bar and Grill. What an awesome meal we all had! I had garlic lime shrimp. I have to say it was some of the best shrimp I have ever had, if not the BEST! After we ate DH and I went to the grocery store and bought our food for the next 3 days.

The weather was nice. Very windy, but warm.. I think it was about 78-80. DH and I decided to go to Jetty Park and watch the cruise ships go out. Carnival Sensation and of course the Disney Wonder. There were Dolphins jumping in front of the Wonder. We also saw sea turtles swimming around and a manatee. Lots of marine life. Very neat to see. Nice way to end our first day in Florida.

I started flying back in 1985 thinking I would be a commercial airline pilot, but the maximum height allowed for an airline pilot was 6' 2" and I'm 6' 5", so this dream never materialized.

And for those of you wondering if I flew the Learjet over the Grand Canyon.....I wish!!
No, unfortunately the height requirement for a Lear pilot is like 5' 6"......its physically impossible for me to fit in the cockpit of a Learjet.....believe me, I tried!!

The jet actually belongs to my Aunt and Uncle and I get to ride in it from time to time. They just sold it a few weeks ago and are in the process of buying a new bigger jet, so I'm expecting a call any day now to go take a "test fly" in it!!

I went back to school and became a licensed aircraft mechanic in 1989.

I've been on board some really amazing aircraft. Like: Air force 1, Donald Trump's private 727, the concord, King Hussein of Jordan's private L-1011, ya......good times, good times!!

I started my own computer business about 12 years ago and I don't get to play with aircraft much anymore.
Once in a while the company I worked for in Seattle will call and ask me if I want to do a contract job, but the jobs are mainly overseas like...China, Saudia Arabia, South America, Germany and the contracts usually last 2-6 months!

How did you manage to get onto all those planes ? When AirForce 1 was here we got a picture in front of it, but we were still pretty far away.

Our good friend just got his dream job with Air Trans. He has always been a pilot, but flew smaller plans. Now he is flying the big ones and is in his glory!!

By the way No cancelling this cruise! It is NOT allowed!

Day 2 Friday April 11th Today I woke up with even a worse sore throat. I am getting concerned about strep throat because it is hurting so bad. I pop some more motrin and try to get on with the day.

We decided to spend the day on the beach. It was a perfect day for it. There was a good breeze to keep us cool. The waves were huge and we saw some surfers. My mother in law got really sun burned. I got a little burned, but not too bad.

This evening Dh made is famous flank steak. It is sooo yummy. I had a hard time enjoying it because of my throat. Tonight is the night I decided I need to go to the Dr. I felt horrible and I was actually wishing I was home in my bed. I was in bed early tonight.

Hope everyone is having a good day. It is beautiful here again I am off to the Dr this afternoon. I think my strep throat is back. I guess the first round of antibiotics did not kick it out of me

Dh left this morning for a homeland security conference in GrandRapids. He will be home on Thursday. He will also be going to the funeral for our friends son. It is just so sad! I can't even imagine their pain!

Tonya-I hope Hunters finger is ok. Here is some for you.

Shell-I hope things are going ok today for you. Sorry to hear of the problems at work That really sucks!

Mornign all,
Lorna, my weather is COLD and RAIN. Suppose to be that way all day long!! So many pollens in the air here, we are all sneezing and watery eyes and even the dogs are having runny noses.

not that it is any of my business but I know others have to be curious too, what the heck does your aunt and uncle to for a living that they can afford to buy a large jet???
